Are LA cruise transfers worth the price?

We are cruising for the first time out of the port of LA in a couple of weeks after crusing from Port Canaveral many times. DCL charges $30 pp one way for transfers from LAX or Disneyland to/from the port. We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel the night before. Are the transfers worth the cost? Are there any hidden benefits to using DCL over another company such as Super Shuttle? My travel agent said they don't even take care of your luggage like in WDW. Feedback appreciated!

We just rented a car at the airport and dropped it at the port on the way in. I think it is Enterprise that has an office close to the port. They were very nice and drove us over to the ship. It was easy and a lot cheaper, even with the one way charge, but you have to make sure you get there before the office closes. I think it closed at noon on Sunday when we left. It was about an hour drive from Disneyland if I remember correctly. Traffic was light on Sunday and we stopped for some shopping on the way.

Coming home we used Disney transfers. I thought they would take our luggage like Port Canaveral, but they did not, so that was disappointing. Anyway it was nice to just get on the bus and head to the airport without looking for a ride. It did seem easy to catch other transportation since you have to grab your bags anyway.

We used the DCL transportation from the Disneyland Hotel. Sometimes we just want easy especially when traveling with my mom. We traveled several years ago and back then, they did handle the luggage for us.

They handled our luggage, so I'm puzzled by the post that says transfers don't include luggage service.

At LAX, we had to claim our own luggage (going to Disneyland), but from Paradise Pier to port, the luggage service was included and the bags were handled just like at WDW.

I believe that Taxis in Anaheim have a flat rate of about $50 to the port for as many people as will fit in the Taxi, not PP. I would think this would be even easier, then you can set the schedule of when you leave.

As many that will fit.... made me think of college days and cramming a ton of people into the car!

Highly recommend the DCL transfers...we were staying on DVC points at the Grand Californian before our MR cruise, and the morning of the cruise our checked baggage was picked up from our room and the next time we saw it was in our stateroom on board. Heavenly. It was also a breeze getting off the ship and to LAX. We never go this route when we cruise out of Canaveral (always rent a car) because it's a relatively easy drive/park at the port, but in LA, we thought the DCL transfer option was well worth it.

From the Grand California, what time approximately did you arrive at the post using DCL transfers?

for us there were only 2 of us so we found it to be cheaper than renting a car also it was our first time in LA

Gosh, can't recall the time (this was in Feb of 2011) but I do know boarding had already begun...we're platinum Castaway Club members so we had our own check-in line and walked right on the ship after checking in, but I do recall hardly any one else was already on board, so it had to be pretty close to the start of the boarding process. I could be misremembering, but it seemed to me way fewer people were waiting to board when they first let you on than you see at Port Canaveral, and many, many people boarded hours after the first call all aboard. It's not a lovely port or "Disneyfied" building to hang around in, so maybe that's part of the reason people don't arrive as early as they do in PC to start the cruise experience (hours before the first boarding call).

We used super shuttle from Grand Californian to the Port, super easy and a little cheaper than DCL.

The taxi rates I found were 84 one way to port from Disneyland.

We took DCL transfers from port to airport only since we had an earlier flight and it was easy.

Do you remember how much Super Shuttle was? Was that the Super Shuttle van or bus and did you have many stops on the way over?

Also, do you recall if the taxi rate was a set rate?

We did a rental car on the way to the port with Enterprise and then DCL transportation on the way home. We left a little before soem friends of ours who took DCL transportation to the port and got there at almost the same time. I loved taking it home. It was so convienient and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I just booked some service from Supershuttle for $55 (up to 5 passengers). I think the shared van was about $18 per person. It is super easy to check prices on their website.

The taxi rate was a set rate.

Super shuttle was 45 for the 1st person and 9 for each additional, and I found a code that knocked 5 dollers off i belive.

It was the van, and it was us and one other couple also staying at the same resort. We went straight there with no stops. Super easy.

I liked having the flexibility to pick my own pick up time. I found it easier to call them and book it then doing it online.

Thanks everyone for the imput! I tried to call DCL earlier but they had a very long wait time. If they do take care of our luggage at DL then it is worth it for the transfer that direction. Does anyone happen to know the pick up time from the Disneyland Hotel? We are platinum so we are hoping for a quick entry into the ship.
