I'm so glad you had a solid experience with the Captain's Grille breakfast buffet! I like how it has a relatively quiet, relaxing atmosphere, and the buffet has an impressive variety of food (while still costing much less than character meals). Whenever we're staying in the Epcot area, it's a must-do for me. :)

Also, those Mickey waffles look really good right now! :thumbsup2

Ditto what DDW said. Very glad to hear that you had another good experience. Captain's Grille seems to get very mixed reviews. I am not sure that we will ever get there for breakfast but it's good to know that it is an option.

Looking forward to your Sci Fi review. We haven't been in a few trips and debating if we should go back.

I love the Captain's Grille breakfast buffet! Any place with unlimited Mickey waffles is considered alright in my book. :thumbsup2

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I have never been there, but it looks quite good. I love Mickey waffles too, I think I like they way they look the most :rotfl2: As I always get them, have a bite and that's it.

Oh man, there's those Mickey waffles again! I'm making it a mission to try a Mickey waffle on my next trip...even if I have to eat it all by myself. :lmao:

Well, I am now at least caught up on one of your reports! Those bakery items at the Boardwalk Bakery look yummy! I'm do glad you enjoyed Yak & Yeti....we need to get back there (haven't been since 2008). I am now drooling over Captain's Grille; I've heard only good things about it.

I didnt enjoy the buffet breakfast at Captains Grille - I think I caught it on a bad day as DH and DD went without me on our last day (I was packing in peace) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was overly spicey or plain old bland. The Captains Frittata was basically baked egg the day we had it. I tried a bread muffin and could have put a window out with out! Not the best day to visit!

I am so glad we are staying at the YC and have CG booked for breakfast instead of Cape May. The buffet looks amazing!

We have been for breakfast twice before and wasnt very happy with it but that was over 5 years ago so its time to give it another go!

sounds like Captain's Grill has been very hit or miss! (I was going to just type CG but that is what I type for California Grill lol) I only have 3 breakfasts scheduled during our trip. The rest will be dependent on if we want breakfast or just wait for lunch! I will keep this one in mind if we decide we need another breakfast meal! I love a good frittata!

Great minds really do think alike
I love oatmeal as well .... How very rock and roll of me ;)
And don't even get me started on Mickey waffles - the BEST
A perfect start to the day (especially if you had thrown in a breakfast cocktail) :)

My second plate was the highlight since it showcased a couple of beloved Mickey waffles. I’ve probably said this so much that everyone is tired of hearing it but… I LOVE MICKEY WAFFLES!! These little guys were served with a slab of butter and a mini coffee cake muffin that wasn’t half bad.

It sounds like you need to go on a Disney Cruise. Mickey Waffles for breakfast everyday! Krispy Kreme donuts and Mickey waffles for breakfast, my oldest calls it his cruisual.

You know, I can honestly say that I have NEVER had a mickey waffle. Shockiing I know. 18 trips and nary a mickey waffle has been had by me. I am just not a waffle fan, even if in the shape of the great mouse. :confused3

Great review of Captains Grill. I think I need to add another breakfast to our trip. I am trying to get Tusker House but this could maybe be a back up.

Two out of three positive dining experiences here tells me that our first time wasn't a true reflection of this place. And I agree with your observation that the food is just as good as any other buffet and so much cheaper with no characters. Glad to know you endorse Captain's Grille as well.

Hi Vicki! I'll get to Sci-Fi in a minute!

I'm not a huge breakfast eater, particularly buffet breakfasts, but I'm quite glad your experience seemed positive.

Hi there! The good thing about this place is you can order a la carte off the menu if you are a light eater. So many great options here.

I love the Captain's Grille breakfast buffet! Any place with unlimited Mickey waffles is considered alright in my book. :thumbsup2

Yay! A fellow Captain's Grille lover! I'd have to fight you for the last Mickey waffle it sounds like! :rotfl2:

Hi Lori! I hope you are enjoying your trip! Those waffles are unique but I'm impressed that you can stop at one bite! ;)

Oh man, there's those Mickey waffles again! I'm making it a mission to try a Mickey waffle on my next trip...even if I have to eat it all by myself. :lmao:

One day Barb, we'll get you to try them. Do you have a next trip yet?

Hi there Kathy! I would welcome you back but I think you have a few more days in FL having a great time with Nicki! Yes, I enjoyed Y&Y, so glad we tried it. If you don't already have all of your plans set for your Dec. trip try to squeeze in Captain's Grill. :) I wish you safe travels back home.

Oh no! Those descriptions sound similar to my first visit to Captain's Grille. Sorry that didn't work out.

Hi Nicki! I was there 2 years ago when it wasn't good and it took a couple trips for me to try it again so maybe now's the time for another try? Sounds like you are having a wonderful time in FL. And to see that you have another trip in Oct. AND Feb. ::yes::

What are your 3 breakfasts? I would love to take it easy in the morning and not worry about breakfast ADRs but I would be starving if I had to wait until noon to eat! I'm the one who prefers sit down breakfasts in our family.

Hi fellow oatmeal lover. I seriously eat it almost every day - I buy those packets of instant oatmeal and have a packet every morning but on weekends I try to actually cook it.) AND you like Mickey waffles! We are bound to be pals!

I'll start thinking about options for October for our get together.... so many choices.

It sounds like you need to go on a Disney Cruise. Mickey Waffles for breakfast everyday! Krispy Kreme donuts and Mickey waffles for breakfast, my oldest calls it his cruisual.

Hi SweetSpot! Your kid is clever! :)

I've been on the wrong cruises in the past because my waffles were not Mickey waffles on the ship!! Hmmmm.... good to know where to have the perfect breakfast and enjoy a the open seas at the same time.

You know, I can honestly say that I have NEVER had a mickey waffle. Shockiing I know. 18 trips and nary a mickey waffle has been had by me. I am just not a waffle fan, even if in the shape of the great mouse. :confused3

You and Jabead!!! If you aren't a waffle fan then I suppose it can't be helped!

Great review of Captains Grill. I think I need to add another breakfast to our trip. I am trying to get Tusker House but this could maybe be a back up.

Thanks! Are you packed and ready to go? You leave in 3 days - how exciting!! Are you staying at YC? If so, Captain's Grille is right there!!

We had a short wait before our 1:35 ADR. While we were in the waiting area we discovered a telecommunications relic! Not sure if Em had ever seen a real live rotary dial phone but it was kinda cool. Michael wanted to leave a dime in the coin return so that the next person that checked it would find a little surprise!

We were escorted to our car by Barry, who was on roller skates… and yes, I asked him if he had ever fallen at work and he hadn’t – good to know. We were seated in a super cool pale pink convertible. It was tricked out with padded leather seats, faux chrome detail, and a back-lit lunch counter.

Em and I decided to skip Sci-Fi during our last girl trip in February since we had already been twice and it didn’t offer anything special as far as the food is concerned. However, since Michael had not been there we booked a lunch just so he could see the cool theming. I was glad that we put this in the rotation this trip. Michael really liked the cheesy movie clips – not sure if it is just my guy or do others like to have a meal in front of a huge movie screen…. He just needed a remote control in his hand to make it the ultimate dining experience.

Although there have been some changes to the menu since we last visited (All American Pic-Nic burger and the rib eye steak) we pretty much knew what we wished to order. Em and I split a burger, I let her pick the cheese, and I picked the side – Swiss for the cheese and fries for the side. We requested the mushrooms on the side. Michael thought a burger sounded good as well so he likewise ordered a cheeseburger with the cucumber salad for his side.

Last time Em and I shared a burger it was delivered already split in two separate food baskets. This time around it was delivered cut in half but in one basket. It was no problem to get another plate.

Angus Chuck Burger; flame boiled beef patty topped with Cheddar or Swiss, sautéed mushrooms, crispy bacon, lettuce, and vine ripened tomato, served with a choice of cucumber salad or French fries $14.99:

The burger was good – it didn’t disappoint but it wasn’t beyond brilliant in culinary terms. It was cooked perfectly to our preference of slightly pink and while it certainly wasn’t dry, it wasn’t greasy or gross either. I suppose that means that it had the perfect balance of fat!!!

The fries were great as always; not soggy or limp but just crisp enough. And yes, Michael thought the burger and the cucumber salad were good.

When we were offered dessert Michael and I declined; however, Em wanted to try the apple crumble. It was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel sauce and a glow ring tossed on it for good measure. We couldn’t quite figure out the glow ring garnish … maybe it was supposed to glow in the semi-dark?? As for the dessert itself, Em said that it was quite tasty.

We were finished with our meal but we lingered a little while longer since Michael wanted to see the clip of The Amazing Colossal Man. Specifically, he wanted to see the giant throw the hypodermic needle at the man who held the “prop” to his side to try and make it look authentic. No one said that the film clips were Academy Award caliber!

DSC02965.jpg

We received our “speeding ticket” (the bill) for which the total for the 2 entrees, 2 drinks (Em only drinks water) and 1 dessert was $45.36 with $8.79 in TiW savings. Ex post facto… I now wonder why I found it perfectly ok to pay nearly $15 for a hamburger!! Sheesh!

Next up: Yachtsman Steakhouse

Sci-Fi is such a fun experience, even if the food doesn't particularly stand out. The glow ring in the dessert also has me baffled.

Can't wait for your Yachtsman review! :goodvibes

We enjoy Sci Fi; while the food is not outstanding (well except those beyond yummy onion rings), the theme more thAn makes up for it.

Can't wait to hear about Yachtsman since that is where we are taking Mark for his special birthday dinner in December.

We have Kona Cafe, Crystal Palace, and Tusker House.

I've been thinking about 'Ohana, Kouzinna, Grand Floridian Cafe. It will depend on if hubby is up for more breakfast otherwise we will just grab a danish or something to hold us till lunch time.
