Had my first ever pedicure yesterday (in prep for my DD's wedding Saturday!!), and the girl doing it actually drew blood several times on both big toes. One of the places is red, swollen, painful to the touch, and oozing. Nice.

My daughter said to go ask for a refund. Is that appropriate? Or is this "just one of those things" that happens now and again.

Thanks for your help!

No, it is not one of those things. I would have been concerned at the very first draw of blood and I would have quit at the second.

Go back and talk with the manager and show her your tootsies.

You need to go back and show them what happened to your foot.

You need anitbiotic cream at the very least ASAP.

You have a big weekend coming up.

Good Luck.

PS -They better give you a refund.

I agree to speak to management and depending on how they react and the severity of your infection/injury you might file a report with your state cosmetology board so they can carefully watch this place/the technician.

I have had many a pedicure and IMO drawing blood once isn't the norm much less twice. If the tech is doing that the manager needs to know and they likely need training before they work on clients again (or at least greater oversight to be sure it is not a regular thing and they know what they are doing).

ETA-And it should go without saying you need to seek medical attention as well to treat/clear up the infection.

Crud. Ok, will go back over there. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!!!:hyper:

Call your doctor ASAP as well - you'll probably need an antibiotic cream and an oral dose because those infections get nasty QUICK and you don't want to not be able to walk at the wedding! good luck and YES, get a refund!

Oh I'd be reporting that to someone. Definitely go to the doc, you don't want to mess around if its a staph infection. I'm so skeeved out for you, don't go back to that place!!

I've had numerous pedicures and have never had an infection from one. I did have a lady draw blood once when she was giving me a manicure because she wasn't paying attention, I kept pulling my hand away and when she gave me a dirty look I said "you're making me bleed!" and wouldn't give my hand back until she stopped talking to the girl she was talking to. Needless to say I never went back there.
I definitely think you should go back, you shouldn't have an infection from a pedi!

NO! It is not normal! I have been getting pedicures twice a month for close to thirty years and not once has blood been drawn. Not at the cheapo Korean places, not at Red Door, not anywhere in between.

Ask for your money back, and if they give you any problem report them to the Health Department. And definitely see a doctor, to be safe - remember that thing with Paula Abdul's finger a few years back?

Good luck. You got off on the wrong foot!

I agree that it is not normal to have that happen with a pedicure, and I would go back and complain.
However I don't know that I would rush to the dr today. I have had many similar, but self inflicted, minor infection to my fingers and toes over the years. I would wait a day or two to see if it gets better or worse, and just use some antibiotic ointment for now.

I stopped using a salon because of being nicked during a pedicure. It was the owner and she blew it off. I had informed her I was diabetic and she needed to be careful. Did go to the doctor and he put me on antibiotics and antibiotic salve. I don't play around when with foot injuries. I want to keep my feet.

Yikes not normal. I have never bled from a pedi. So did you go back?

My DD19 and I get pedicures about every 6-8weeks for the past 7 years. Neither of us has every suffered an infection or bleeding. You need to see a doctor first and the manager of the salon next. And I don't think I'd be going back there, either!

Yikes!!! OP, this is NOT normal!!! I'd go back, show them the damage and depending on the response, I might even contact the Board of Health or whoever licenses salons in your area.

A foot infection is nothing to mess with. At the very minimum, ask the pharmacist for a recommendation. I'd probably see my doctor.

Not normal and I would let them know.

The one and only time I had a pedicure, I got a toenail fungus. It didn't show up for about 3 weeks after the pedicure, which is just about the right time for it to develop and cause changes in the nail. I was not nicked and did not bleed; howver, my nail and nail bed was "manhandled" enough that it lifted the "seal" of my nailbed.

I haven't been back since and I apoligize to everyone for never having been properly pedicured since.

Totally agree with everyone else. Go in and show your toes - they should give you your $$ back. And call your doctor's office. Topical antibiotic cream may be all you'll need, but I'd be checking just to be sure.

I bled one time not long ago. I pointed it out to the girl and she put a little antibiotic on it. I talked to the woman at the counter and questioned how things are cleaned there. She "assured" me that they clean properly, etc. Thankfully, I did not get an infection, but I really watched that toe!

My podiatrist has big signs up in his office telling diabetic patients to NEVER get a salon pedicure!

Thank you for all your responses. I did go to the salon. She was very nice, apologized, gave me my money back. I will not see a doctor at this point. I have antibiotic ointment and peroxide. If it gets worse or doesn't heal in the next several days, I'll see a doctor. What a pain.
