that's nice said:
Hello everyone! I don't venture out into the 'regular' boards that much(usually stay on the TRs or the DDC boards) but I saw this thread and I started reading.... We will be staying at POFQ from Nov.2-12. Going to the first MVMCP on the 9th and will be in DHS on the 10th to see the Osbourne lights. We are really excited for this trip and it will be our DS first Disney trip. He just turned 1 in August.

I hope you all have great trips!!!! pixiedust:

Welcome to our November family! Sounds like you have a great trip planned and it will be so fun seeing everything through your son's eyes!!

We are surprising our kids (DD12, DS 10 DD 7) too. My Wife wants to wait until the morning of our flight. However we have to be up at 4am to get to the airport. Not sure what to tell the as we wake them up. Its also their first plane flight.

Any idea's

Good morning everyone! Update on my newest granddaughter,Caroline: she is doing pretty well but has some breathing issues and cannot eat naturally. I am here in Virginia, but haven't been able to see the baby yet. Oh forgot to say she was born yesterday morning. My daughter got to hold her yester evening for the first time and I will get to go into the ICU to see her today. The baby can't be stroked or cuddled so as not to over-stimulate her while she is concentrating on breathing. We feel so blessed and know that eventually her lungs will strengthen and she'll be fine. Thanks to all of you who prayed an d sent encouragement! It really meant a lot!

I'm on my iPad, so can't multi quote, but to all those who are so excited about getting close, I'll just say " dancing bananas" to you!!!!!

I use Shadowryter for my t-shirt designs and LOVE everything she does. And she is prompt!!

As far as maybe changing to January, it sounds like a good idea for your family. Just don't leave our November family!

Okay, I'm off to do a little baby shopping and then to go to the birthing center. Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Congrats on the new baby! Everyone must be so excited!!!

Is anyone surprising their kids?

My DD17 has known all along, as she helped me convince DH we should go..lol! When we decided to take my sister's kids it was suppose to be a surprise. However, my sister cannot keep a secret to save her life! She initially told DNiece14 right away. About a month ago she told DNiece11, who was seeing commercials about Disney and saying how she wished so much she could go and it was her dream, etc. She thought since the girls knew that DNephew9 knew so she started talking to him about it one day...and he didn't have a clue...so she told him too...lol! Then she told them they couldn't tell ME they knew and to act surprised. I got it out of her that they all knew and I have to admit it has been nice that they know. I would have preferred surprising them...but when I need my Disney Fix and my DD17 and DH I sick of me talking about it, I just call the kids and they can talk FOREVER about what we're going to do! Especially DNiece11 who is quite the chatterbox! LOL!

CONGRATULATIONS! So happy the baby is doing so well and the prognosis is so postive! Wonderful news!

Is anyone surprising their kids? My DD went for the first time two years ago when she was two and she can't wait to go back. She knows we are going but obviously doesn't understand exactly when so we were thinking of surprising her that morning when we wake her up to go. Her and I watched some videos of kids getting surprised and she loved it. Just wondering if anyone can share some ideas, suggestions, or their plans! Thanks!

We are!

We took DD1 for her 5th birthday 2 years ago and are taking DD2 for her 4th birthday. The girls think we are going for DD2's 5th birthday next year. Our plan is to pick up DD1 from school on Friday and drive straight from there. We haven't decided if we're going to tell the kids when we pick up DD1 or if we'll just let them figure it out when we pull into AoA. They are used to long car trips so it won't be a shock that we're taking a road trip, just where we end up. :cool1:

I'm so excited now I can't wait. :jumping1:

I am surprising DS7 also. Right now, the plan is to pick him up after school and surprise him with a trip to LegoLand. Little will he realize that we're staying at WDW and going all the places I asked him to just pick one of! At least until we get there (I hope). I haven't ironed out the details yet, but everyone who knows we're going knows to keep it a secret from him.

We are surprising our kids as well, but my youngest is 6. I plan to tell them the day we leave, otherwise, they do not sleep well the night before and that makes for cranky kids (and cranky me, lol)! I would like to tell them on the way to the airport, but dh would like to do it an hour or so before we leave so that the teens can pack their stuff. I found a small globe at the craft store (World), plan to print out a picture of Walt, and have some foam letters that they will need to unscramble for Disney. Hopefully they will be able to put it all together at that point.

So many surprises!!!

We are surprising our dd7, but the big reveal will be 2 weeks before we go. That way she has time to get excited and tell all her friends at school and help plan and pack.

I think our move to Jan. is probably going to happen. Had a meeting at the school today & the teachers thought it would be a better week for DS to miss. His schedule is crazy this year... EC reading & gifted math... it gets confusing to figure it all out!!! :headache:

Congratulations on the new Grand Baby!!!!
How early was she? My DS10 was a 9 pound premie! :scared: Our NICU experience was amazing. There are some special people who work with those babies!!! just hang in there... It's so hard not being able to hold them & take them home with you, but it will be a wonderful day when she is strong enough!!!

We are also surprising our kids. We will check them out of school after lunch with the whole "the van is packed, we are leaving right now". We will be there on their birthday! We will have kept it a secret for almost a year!

Hello everyone! I'm new (and late!) to the thread!

My Husband and I are spending the first week of our honeymoon at Disney! We are staying at POFQ from Nov 10-16th :) we can't wait!!:cool1:

Thank you! I'm sure it will bring back the memories of when my DD6 saw WDW for the first time. She was 23 months at the time. :goodvibes

Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter! :goodvibes:goodvibes

WELCOME! I hope you have a wonderful trip!
Thank you so much! I'm sure we will. Enjoy yourself as well! :)

Happy Friday all! We're getting closer and closer to our trips! :cool1:

An earlier question about spending money made me think about the types of things that we may buy while we are at WDW and I was curious about what kind of things you like to bring back from a trip? :confused3

I typically have the goal that whatever we get has to be unique to the trip. I don't want to get something that can be had at the local Disney Store in the mall or online or any other store for that matter. I was rather fond of the dated merchandise on our last trip and plan to get some items from that collection this time as well.

Off of the top of my head I know we're planning on doing the pressed coins as a cheap and fun souvenir/activity for the girls. We'll also obviously be doing character autographs. My wife typically likes to get a pullover hoodie and I'm usually in the market for a polo shirt. We're doing BBB for DD2, so she'll get a dress during that trip. I'm probably going to get another watch, particularly if I can find a deal like I did last time (spend $25 in the store get a watch for $15). A handful of stuffed animals will accompany us home I'm sure, as will some household goods. Since we're getting PP+ we'll also be bringing home tons of pictures from rides, meals and various locations around the parks too. :thumbsup2

What about you? Is there anything you collect or desire to bring home each trip or if this is your first trip, anything you think you want? :confused3

i def want a pearl from epcot as well as minnie ears with my name on it. Other than that anything that strikes my fancy.

Definitely pressed coins. I collect them from everywhere I go. Will get ear hats for the kids with their names on them. A dated t shirt for me. Going to pick a pearl as a Christmas gift for DD's EA at school. We have the photo pass+ too. Will be looking for some resort specific items as well.

I have a strange collection...bags (the kind that the store puts something in after you buy it, not duffle bags or the like). I have a Disneyland bag that I have had since 1985ish and I have been occasionally collecting since, though I did lose some in a move once . I also collect park maps and parking passes. My kids now like to bring bags home as well and will reuse them for various things. It just reminds them of the parks. My teens went so far as to do an experiment after our last Disneyland trip. They put a bag into a ziplock bag and it still smelled like the DL Emporium months later.

Now that you all think I'm weird, I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Friday.

GREAT QUESTION! I hadn't thought very much about it yet...I'm not really a big shopper. I know I want to get a pearl at Epcot.

I used to collect spoons from every place we'd ever visited...but I lost my whole collection in our house fire.

Haven't consider whether I should start it over...or start something else. :confused3

Probably good to think about it before we leave...so THANKS!

Nothing weird about that at all! Anytime you can get something that is unique and best of all, free, it's a good thing. When we went to Europe for the first time we saved EVERYTHING that was freely obtained on that trip and took pictures of EVERYTHING we saw. In a week we literally had over 1000 pictures taken on our camera plus another 300 or so each on our phones.

I forgot about spoons! My wife has a spoon collection. She needs a new display for hers since she filled hers a couple of years ago. Now they are just floating around her office. :rotfl2:

I also forgot about ear hats! :thumbsup2 Ear hats are a must for a Disney trip IMO. We got the custom, personalized ones from DTD on the last trip for the kids and likely will do the same this time. My wife and I don't need/want them, but the kids loved doing it.

Speaking of personalized things, I just remembered one other thing. At MK there was a place to build a custom Mr. Potato Head. For DD1 I have gotten her a different Mr. Potato Head each year for her birthday or Christmas and on our last trip she made her own there. I think it was $14 for all the parts you could fit into the box, including the body. She got Buzz Lightyear pants and shoes, Goofy Hat w/ears, a Mickey head balloon and a refillable mug (miniature of course) that matched what we got with the DDP! We'll probably do that again and this time DD2 will be old enough to participate. :cool1:
