Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

Is the entire route on pavement? I am wondering as I use a wheelchair and would love to participate.

It was last October when we did it: path to air strip, air strip, and bike loop. There were puddles in some spots along the bike loop.

just ran it last month -
no certificate or medal, just the bib. t-shirts are sold out within an hour

gift shop, path, loop, serenity bay, path, loop, gift shop

have fun

I did it 3 weeks ago...it was bike rental, path, airstrip, bike loop end of airstrip turn around the bike loop, path back to bike rental. I got a medal, a certificate, my bib and I bought the tshirt before I ran so I had one. Only had one size available.

What size did they have available?

Thanks!

As a surprise for my family, I am secretly training for the 5K next month when we cruise on the Dream. :thumbsup2

For all you runners out there - I have been training/running inside at 78 degrees - is 78 outside going to feel hotter? :confused3

Yes. Don't be disipointed if you cant run as fast outside as you can inside.

Thanks! I expected as much. :)

My goal is only to finish, not to win or even run fast. I have never run before in my life and am still not completely recovered from a herniated disc almost two years ago. I will be thrilled just to cross the finish line, even if it's walking. :goodvibes

What a great accomplishment! Good luck. :thumbsup2

Starting is better than not starting. Finishing(walk or run finish) is the best!! I finished my first 5k back in May. Plan on doing this 5k as I plan on doing the Princess 1/2 in Feb. I live in Florida and I'll be honest...it's been pretty slow training over the summer. It is tough running in this heat. We've had a bit drier air lately so that helps. The humidity is what gets you. You can't hydrate enough. Just hydrate, and take frequent short walk breaks and you will do great!!

78 inside is nothing like anything you will feel in the Bahamas outside in mid-morning. I live in FL and was totally shocked by the heat, sun, and especially lack of shade on the CC 5k course.. In February, a mild month.

Please, don't let that discourage you. Just be prepared for your bodies reaction! You CAN
Finish.. be conscience of dehydration, remember to take it slower for the increased heat, and have FUN! All that matters is crossing the finish line. You don't want to ruin your CC day by burning out in a run.

Good luck!! You Can Finish!

Finished dead last beats did not finish, which is so much better than did not race.

My goal for the castaway (my first 5K) was anything under 45 min.

Good luck

Thank you all so much for the encouragement! I think I'll keep you all around!

I finished my first ever 20 minute run this morning - it was tough, but I did it, and I feel GREAT!!!

I CAN do this!!!:thumbsup2

Just a note on the shirts and the sizes. I did the 5k on August 1, 2012 with my sister in law (we got the certificate, bib and Mickey medal). We went to purchase the shirt immediately after the race and all they had were XLs and XXLs so we were disappointed but bought the XLs anyway (there were still plenty of people still racing). We even asked the girl to check in the back and she reported they had no other sizes. I decided to go to the area where they sold the shirts later in the day out of curiosity to see if they put any more shirts out.And what do you know, the rack now had larges (although no mediums or smalls). I told my sister in law and we went back and exchanged our XLs for larges. Although they were still big, at least they weren't as big as they would have been if we kept the XLs. So my recommendation is to check back later because they might restock the rack for the next day's cruise.

Is it possible to buy the shirts BEFORE the race start?

I seem to recall someone posting that they had done just that. I'm planning on asking DH to buy them while I run.
