Selling used CD's

Has anyone ever sold used CD's? We don't have any place local that buys them so I was wondering if anyone had experience doing it online, and is it worth it?

We use a website -- www.secondspin.com. They take most CDs, as well as games and movies. You enter the UPC codes in and they tell you how much they'll pay for each item, and you can decide if it's worth it or not (when they're paying 5 cents for certain CDs, I don't send them in -- I've frequently found that several months later, they'll pay more for the same one). They also send out emails a couple times a year offering a 20% bonus on everything you're selling. We've made well over $500 on selling our CDs. PM me if you look at the site and have any questions.

ETA -- a nice thing about SecondSpin is that you can sell in bulk -- you enter all your upcs, decide which you're actually going to sell, confirm that you're selling them, and mail them a big box. About 10 days later, you get a check plus the cost of the media mail shipping (make sure you send them media mail -- if you send them first class, they'll only reimburse the media mail cost). I usually do about 75-80 CDs at a time -- that's about all the time I usually have to enter the UPCs and put together my sale list -- you can't do it and then save it and come back, has to be done in one sitting.

Used CDs generally have very little value unless they are rare or out of print. Music is really a commodity these days, when you can just download your favorite song. I would try to look at selling them on Amazon. You'd have to worry about mailing them out, but you will get any revenue rather than giving about half of it to a middle man.

If you aren't able to sell some of them you might consider donating them to your local library. They should be able to give you a tax write off for them too!

I have used secondspin and abundatrade. Read through the "how to sell" info on both, enter in the CDs on both, and figure out which one will yield the most for you.

I've been SHOCKED at how much we've gotten for some CDs. The Conan the Barbarian soundtrack was nearly $20! The "3 Men and a Little Lady" was more than Conan. I don't know who is out there buying those things for that much (and more, since the two sites resell them), but depending on who is out there wanting things, you could be really surprised.

Paula Abdul CDs, however, are worthless. Poor Paula.

I have no interest waiting for the ultimate buyer to come along and buy my stuff. I'm happy to let the middleman do the hard work of finding that mythical person. I'm good with those two sites, and seriously have to get my rear into gear on selling the rest!

The other thing is...read the info that's on at least one of the sites I mentioned on CD "rot". And check each of your CDs for it BEFORE sending it in. They won't buy them if there's rot, and they'll either dispose of the CDs for you or you get to pay to have the CDs sent back. So check out each CD carefully. Also know that broken cases will have a fee associated with them, so you might want to replace broken cases if you can get them for cheaper than what the sites will charge you. Doing all the reading first, and making sure your CDs and cases are in good condition before sending them in, is worth it.

thank you for all the information. I am off to check out the websites and explore my options!

We just switch cases with CDs that will never sell, computer game cases, etc. It's easy to pop the plastic insert out and pull out the paper covers and switch them.

Oh definitely. We've just run out of those. So I forgot about the option :)

Thanks! Just made $26 on CDs that were taking up space. Not much, but it buys a round of Mickey bars!
