Changed resorts,wondering if I made the right choice?

Hi guys,

tWe are going to be at WDW Nov 29-Dec 5. I just realized that partially coincides with Pop Warner week. We had originally booked a family Suite at all star music with the free dining offer, and had upgraded to the regular dining plan. Well, today I freaked out because I was worried it might be crazy at the resort with pop warner. I just didn't want too much chaos or anything. I'm not intolerant of the kids, but I also just didn't want to deal with noisiness when the ittle ones were trying to take a midday nap etc. So called and found out that I could upgrade to a cabin at fort wilderness for only 200 more. I went ahead and upgraded. Do you think we'll be happier at Fort Wilderness?

Well, it's likely to be much quieter, but I think you've lost a bit of accessibility in transportation by changing to a cabin. Transportation at the All Stars is great because they seem to have constant buses running and you rarely wait long. I don't think it will be the same at FW.

If I'd been you, I'd have stayed put and requested a room on a high floor facing away from the pools or courtyards.

I think so! I have never been there during that time but I have heard it can get busy! The cabins will be more private.

See, this is a really hard question. I am definately not an outdoorsy, camping kind of person. I would have absolutely no desire to stay in a FW cabin. I would probably have stayed put, looked for a different value or priced out a moderate. But if you like the camping atmosphere, this could be the right choice for your family.

Well we have a fifth wheel and even though we aren't really camping there, we're used to the campground atmosphere, so I figured we'd be okay on that end. As for transportation, we'll have our own car anyway. From what I've read I figured we'd use the boat to get to the MK and we'd drive to the other parks ourselves. I also thought the fact that we could just pull into the driveway of the cabin at the end of the day, versus walking back to a hotel room would maybe be a plus. The only thing I'm worried about is that the theme is not as colorful, but at the same time, we go at least once a year, so we can get that again. Mostly I just wanted to make sure we had a peaceful retreat to come back to at the end of the day. hehe

Well I thought about that, but the only moderate we'd all fit in (5 of us) besides Fort Wilderness Cabins is POR, but it's all booked up (I'm guessing because of Pop Warner). We could have gone to AoA but even though it's a value it priced out higher than a Fort Wilderness Cabin, (Which is weird isn't it? I mean if Fort Wilderness is considered a moderate resort then shouldn't AoA theoretically be less expensive?

If it were me it would be FW hands down. Its my very favorite resort and we have stayed at all the values and moderates. You'll have more space, full size appliances with an ice maker! more room to run around. The only down side is one bathroom.

Some people dont like the transportation situation since you have to take a bus within the resort to get to the buses to the attractions. That has never bothered us.

Since you have a car, you'll be fine at FW cabins. I agree with taking the boat to MK, a fun way to get there, and driving a car to MK is a hassle, with having to park at TTC, take tram, take monorail etc to get there.

The kids will love the barn area where you can see the ponies, etc. Since you are there you could make ADRs for Hoop DeDo. And there is also a resort boat that loops around WL, FW & CR. The Electric Water Parade stops by FW too.

Since you go once a year, I think it would be great to try something new.
You might find FW to be your new favorite! And I agree with the parking situation, it would be so nice to pull up right in front of your cabin after a long day at the park. Also, cabin atmosphere might get you in the mood for the holidays.

I have stayed at the All-Stars a number of times with my own team (we are in college) and being around a packed resort full of younger kids is ANNOYING! The pool is packed and loud, the lobby is packed and loud, the food court is especially packed and loud... and everywhere else in between! If I was a family staying there I would be soooooo mad!!!

Fort Wilderness... very calm, serene and loads of fun! That is, if you do enjoy camping. I have never stayed in the "cabins" but have stayed in a tent and a trailer before. Lots of fun there with the Chip & Dale Sing-along and "drive in" movie afterwards... roasting marshmallows... fun! Easy bus transportation places, or boat to the Magic Kingdom. With your car, no worries! I would say that at the campground you would have less of a "Disney" feel though.

Alternative: One of the DVC Resorts? They are super expensive through Disney though. What about the new suites at The Art Of Animation Resort?
