Mom & Son-One More Time w/Dad! 11 days of DxDDP-10/21, Grand Finale, FF Chef's Table!

The recommended wine was Woop Woop Verdelho from SE Australia .. we found the Woop Woop name funny but the wine was very good

WDWSummer2012103.jpg

Love the name of this wine...Woop Woop!!! :rotfl2:

And DH had the Blue Lump Crab Spring Rolls - snow crab claw and a Asian slaw with spicy miso aioli

WDWSummer2012119.jpg

For entrees, DS had the Charred Filet of Beef - over Brentwood corn and Pancetta Risotto, arugula pesto and pickled rainbow carrots

WDWSummer2012122.jpg

I had to get the Grapefruit Cake - Light Layers of Yellow Cake with fresh Grapefruit-Cream Cheese Icing

WDWSummer2012126.jpg

Mmmm...I'll take Jay's appetizer, Andrew's entree, and your dessert please! :thumbsup2 Although I have never had their famous Grapefruit Cake, the pics of it always look so good. My problem is that I don't like grapefruit. Is the grapefruit flavor strong?

Cool, we agree on stuff this time! I agree with your DH that the buffalo was great, and those truffle croquettes are awesome. I also enjoyed the duck two ways, and I'll take the grapefruit cake over their banana toffee tower any day. :)

Just the gel stuff on top and i think it is a very artifical grapefruit flavor. I don't think the grapefruit is strong in the rest of the cake at all. Just a very light, yummy cake! Give it a try! ;)

This is what I walked into at work this morning ...

iPhone031.jpg

It is the hallway from the elevator to my room. The Credit Union I am working at has a relationship with the Disney Institute and they come in to do training several times a year! The training classes start this week ... I go on the 27th. Best part? Once the glass is completed, we get graduation Disney Institute ears! :cool1:

I really need this job to become permanent! It is obviously where I need to be!

After leaving DHS, we headed to EPCOT and spent time listening to the British Invasion (I think Off Kilter was off). It was a very mellow afternoon.

Dinner was at La Hacienda. Quick story. Last year when we ate there a song played several times during dinner. The melody has been in my head. It was in Spanish so I had no idea what the words were but to me it sounded like a broken hearted “love” song. When we got our pager, we sat down and I told Jay & Andrew about the song from last year. What do you know, the next song that came on was THE song! I went up to the podium to find out the name. They had to call a manager for me. The song? Querida by Juan Gabriel. I was sooooo happy to finally know the name of the song! And yes, translating the words, it is a broken heart song!

Anyway, here’s the menu …

Jay had a beer

WDWSummer2012157.jpg

I had the mostly heavenly avocado margarita!

WDWSummer2012156.jpg

I really like this drink. In fact, it is the reason we ended up coming back to Hacienda. That and because DS really wanted Mexican food.

First the chips and salsa …

WDWSummer2012158.jpg

I really like these. The chips were warm and salty. And I liked a combo of the red and green salsas together. I thought the red was a bit sweet, almost BBQlike and the green was very tart so together they were perfect for me!

For appetizers, DS had the Queso Fundido - melted cheese with poblano peppers, chorizo, and flour tortillas

WDWSummer2012160.jpg

This was amazing! Ooey, gooey, hot, cheesy goodness! I really enjoyed the cheese with the bits of chorizo.

DH had the Botana - a sampling of Mexican favorites: chicken tostada, Chilorio sope (marinated pork), and cheese empanada

WDWSummer2012159.jpg

I didn’t have any of this but we did share it last year. It was good, not spectacular but good.

And I had the Taquiza - taco trio featuring beef taco with chipotle salsa, roasted chicken taco with salsa verde, and Chilorio (marinated pork) taco

WDWSummer2012161.jpg

I really liked these … actually I should say I liked the chicken & the pork. DS snapped up the beef.

For entrees, DH surprised me by ordering the Tacos de Camarones - Fried shrimp, chipotle-lime aioli, cabbage, lime and salsa verde, all served over flour tortillas

WDWSummer2012163.jpg

I don’t eat shrimp at all and DH isn’t a huge Mexican food fan so I was surprised that he really liked these.

DS and I shared the La Hacienda - Mixed grill offering New York strip, chicken al pastor, chorizo and vegetables, served with beans and fresh salsas

WDWSummer2012162.jpg

Look at all that food! Seriously, we didn’t put a dent in the platter. I love the spicy chorizo sausages in a tortilla with some veggies and beans. My mouth is watering for it right now!

Again too full for dessert. Total for the dining plan portion was $120.54. Total for two beers and a margarita was $31.42.

I know that this isn’t the most authentic Mexican food. We have a place in town that is more authentic. But I really do like Hacienda. I like the décor, seeing the lagoon, the music. It is all in one for me. Although this was probably the worst service we had all week. We were at a table towards the kitchen and were a bit neglected when it came to drink refills and clearing plates. We weren’t in a hurry so no big deal but service definitely lacked here.

Your HBD meal looks good. I am hoping hubby will want to share items here though as I want to try the Cobb Salad and an entree but don't think I can eat it all for a lunch!

La Hacienda looks good as well. I don't have Mexico planned this time... Maybe next!! :goodvibes I think I will have to stop in La Cava to try that avacado Margarita though!

Wow 2 really nice looking meals! We aren't going to HS this year but HBD makes me want to go. I have never been but the grapefruit cake looks yummy & everyone raves over it. :goodvibes Oh & the margaritas look incredible!! Right up mine & DH's alley.

I didn't realize your position wasn't permanent.......I think after the "Disney" touch showed up.....it's just meant to be & would be a perfect fit....hope they realize that too!!!!

La Hacienda food looks really good!! (and did the margarita!!)

Wow that Mexican food looks amazing. I currently have a ressie for San Angel for dinner only to try the atmosphere, but might change it to here ;) Your photos look amazing!! I am just so torn as I live in San Antonio Texas and have access to great Mexican food.

Hi Vicki! For HBD, that grapefruit cake looks delicious! I love the decor for HBD. :)

For La Hacienda, sorry about the lack of service but that avocado margarita had to make it better!!! Still haven't tried one. I have tried the Botana app and liked it but I think your tacos looked great!

How exciting to get Disney Institute ears when you graduate! That's so perfect! :yay:

How cool is that?!?!

I am really hoping that your job goes permanent! I think the Mickey Heads and ears are a good sign!!

Oh my gosh, I'm so easily influenced when I read the dining reviews. That Queso Fundido is calling my name and I think I'm going to make Eilee go to our local Mexican restaurant with me for dinner! LOL!! It won't be Disney but it'll have to do!

It looks like a very nice meal and that you enjoyed most everything! I love that avocado margarita as well. Mmmm...why didn't I get one of those the last time I was there?? I've never tried La Hacienda but would love to! Awesome review and glad you enjoyed it despite the less than perfect service.

What a great way to start your work day! :thumbsup2

Outstanding!!! So much better than a boring Certificate of Completion. ::yes::

I had the mostly heavenly avocado margarita!

WDWSummer2012156.jpg

Oh, I would love one of those right now! There are two bars within walking distance of my office, and neither one of them has ever heard of an avocado margarita. Can you imagine??? :p :rotfl:

All three of your appetizers look great to me, plus I'd really like to try the Tilapia there (DD had it last time and loved it!). I am going to have quite a dilemma the next time I visit La Hacienda. :scratchin

I am so late to the party but what a party when one of your latest posts has the Avocado Margarita in it!
Just made my day ..... Right off to read the rest now :)

I think if you start with the margarita nothing else seems to matter, Barb!!:lmao:

Btw, is the margarita sweet? or does it taste more like a bittery cucumber tasting smoothie? I heard someone say that once.

Glad you had a good experience at La Hacienda! I don't think I'll be going there anytime soon (first experience wasn't great, and they no longer accept TIW) but it's still nice to see reviews of it. :)
