Big changes to WCC menus on Wednesday

Just for a change in the attitude, my group of 6 coming up the week after next has zero problems with this change. I can see why some people would. But I think the people that turn away from WCC will end up going somewhere else, and the people that couldn't get into WCC will be able to. We'll see, but I don't think it will be an earth shattering move. Actually, the people in my group were excited to hear about the dessert sampler, and weren't fazed by the change in the menu. How can you miss what you didn't have? And the three of us that went to WCC loved the lunch Skillet. :confused3

I'm just hoping the milkshakes stick around, since that hasn't got an answer yet.

OP here.

I posted this so there would be no surprises if you already had reservations and to keep everyone up to date, not to argue about dining plans and "free" vs not free and whether or not I will leave a stack of dirty plates on your table. I, personally, don't do that. My fellow servers and I don't make the rules, don't change the menus and have nothing to do with the quality of food that is served or if you can get a salad since you don't eat dessert.

I will tell you what I tell anyone who asks...write a letter with what works for you and what doesn't. Believe it or not, that's how things get changed. Will WCC stay "platters only" forever? Don't know. Will we go back to an ala carte menu in the future? Don't know. We weren't asked for our opinion before this change and probably won't be asked next time either.

Wednesday should be a crazy night.

SaberJ, YES, milkshakes are staying! :)

Hi LunaCup!

As well as still serving the milkshakes there will also be an alcoholic maple whiskey shake served (not all you care to drink of course). Also, a new addition to the alcoholic menu is moonshine mixed drinks and themed wines (exclusive to WCC only)!! =)

It is not the server's opinions that effect the changes made to menus and/or policies etc.

Hi LunaCup!

Yes! Absolutely write letters saying what you like and what you don't like. The guest's opinions are highly valued but make the biggest impact when they are in writing.

Hi Suzanne!

Anyone there now or going later this week that can confirm if they did change as of tomorrow?

I'm very disappointed. I dislike the skillet platter have been watching my weight for some time. I like to eat my main meal in the evening and don't want to leave the parks in the middle of the day to sit down and eat. I enjoy the setting of WCC and like to eat from the a la carte menu and have a starter and dessert. The rest of my family DH , DS will eat the platter, but my DD has digestive issues and so she too eats a la carte. We have been happy to pay whatever extra costs we incur, regardless of any dining plan option or not. We have never had free dining and if this is causing WDW to reduce the options and the quality of food available in order to turn more tables, then I'm all for getting rid of FD. There is no such thing as a free lunch. (Economics 101) you will get rationing and someone else is always subsidizing your "free goodies". I am going to wait until the actual menu is published, but if this turns out to be true, then I am going to write a letter to WDW and let them know. WCC used to be a highlight of our trips, not any more.

Man I was sweating when I read the title of the thread. While I will miss the salad, I am pumped that the skillet and milkshakes are still there. We go for those two! The desserts are swell also!

Suzannews, thanks for posting this new info. I'll keep a watch on this thread & hopefully you will post the details when the new menu comes out.

I like the skillet. Haven't been able to get ressie for our Nov trip. Looks like now we will get one due to all of the supposed cancellations upcoming!

The post about inflated resort prices when on the DDP is not accurate. We would rather save $s than get free DDP. We checked our ressie both ways - up to 30% off special vs. free DDP. The room discount was $80 cheaper than taking free DDP for our 6 nite stay ($80 for the entire stay, not $80 per nite!). Obviously we'll spend more than $80 in food during our 6 nite stay. So we took the free DDP - not free - true - but only costs $80 for 6 nites stay - good deal! :thumbsup2

Re: the horrible WCC waiter & 18% - 18% is not required in any restaurant at WDW or not WDW. Just ask for the manager. Explain just as did on this thread. I can't imagine any manger not doing as you want - no tip, or small tip. The manager would rather a bad server lose a tip than a customer contact the regional manager or corporate office.

RE: $250 car rental & never paying that price - did I miss something here? Rental car prices are based on the # of days! Do you know that your car rental was for the same time period as the poster you referred to? :confused3 Besides, even if the car is $50, that's still more than $0 at the end of a meal (excluding tip of course).

Youve had 2 WCC servers post, isnt that the best confirmation possible?

My family liked the skillet so the no alacart won't be a problem. I will miss the salad. I really liked it. I will also miss no skillet at lunch. While I like dinner there better (like the silliness that goes on. Lunch seemed a bit more reserved to me), sometimes it is hard to get that perfect ADR time. So we would opt for lunch instead.

Good luck to the servers tomorrow. Hope you do not encounter to many Grumpys. :)

The salad is the only thing I'll miss too. We'd all get the skillet on our next visit regardless. I remember back in 1996 when I ate there for the first time, you got to pick the meats you wanted for your skillet, and I think that was the only choice. I'll have to see if I still have something that shows the old menu, as I think it was included in the packet you got when you checked into WL.

Ok, so I am wondering if one of the servers posting on this thread might be able to shed light as to what vegetarian and/or vegan options might be available on the new menus?

I know they have no control over it, but I would imagine that they need to know what the options will be.

Not sure if you've read the whole thread, but Rusty Scupper detailed the reasons for the changes. No dining plan at any price was among them.

Also, while it appears the specific selections at specific meals will change, the options won't. There will be a greater variety of foods on the skillets/dinner; and I could be wrong, but I thought they're adding to the á la carte lunch items. Your decision to not leave a park midday to dine in a hotel restaurant is, well, your choice.

Nowhere did I see any indication of a reduction in quality :confused3 unless you mean the meatloaf? That dish doesn't appeal to everyone - but if it's always been bad, it's always been bad. Changing the menu 9/19 doesn't change past quality. But if you choose not to patronize this restaurant after the changes, that's your decision. Go ahead and write, but you'll likely just get a prewritten response. This doesn't sound like a spur of the moment change - and if WCC isn't on your must-do list any longer, surely it'll be on somebody else's.

Side note: you're right, there's no such thing as a free lunch, somebody pays. Interestingly, Walt Disney World doesn't offer free dining. Never has. It's always been "dining plan free with your [nondiscounted] package". Nobody's subsidizing anyone. It's all in the accounting. If anything, the guests are "subsidizing" themselves.

We love vwl and this is the kid friendly restaurant there. My mom an sister dont eat meat , and mom has to special order for dietary reasons . Hope there are options . My kids cant sit for artist point .

For our vegetarian and/or vegan diners, we've been told there will be quinoa cakes (same as on the old menu) and maybe a vegetarian pasta offered.

A chef will still come to your table is you have food allergies and/or dietary restrictions.

Kid's menu will offer "the platter" as well as fish, burger, meaty mac and grilled cheese dippers.

I'm hoping someone can post the updated menu today. We are going the first week of October and are trying to decide if we keep this ADR or not.

1) Correct.
2) And, as a surprise to many, "free dining" is in the hotel room cost.
3) The restaurants nor the parks pay for free dining.
4) This is paid directly by the individual resort.
5) So, it is already built into your room fee.
6) And, it comes off the profit margin of the hotel General Manager.
7) This is also why there are different amounts of packages at each hotel.
8) And, some hotels may not even offer free dining for some room categories.

Hey there- Post # 863 has the menu pictured- http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=46199154#post46199154

Sadly, I have just canceled my ADR for my last day staying at the property- we choose it so my husband could have the skillet for lunch. Hopefully they will see the trend for the cancellations and see that people wanted choices. They need to be careful about the "burn and turn" attitude that Disney appears to be adopting. For the price we are paying for the food/experience it should be about relaxing, enjoyment.

This is the correct lunch menu. The dinner menu appears to not have been posted yet.

Also, Disney is able to change their menus twice a year so there is a possibility that other restaurants could have changes too but WCC is probably the biggest menu change.

Exactly! The next time someone asks why are folks so negative on the dining plan...remember this change.

Take out the salad and add a dessert? Now THAT'S a surprise. How on earth did Disney let the green on this menu escape them for so long????

The pulled pork spring rolls made the menu... yay! :hyper: DH will mourn the missing venison chili & I will miss the lunch skillet.

Everything we had there back in September was excellent (as was the service), it ended up being our favorite meal. Not sure we will do the skillet at night, but I do like the options they have for it. Was the new price posted? (If so I missed it.)
