Anyone with PlatinumTel

I'm in the process of buying a phone for my daughter, and just happened to notice that I can put in a referral phone # and both people will receive a $5 credit.

If anyone would like to PM me their cell phone # in the next few minutes, I'll put it in and you can get the $5.

I can't wait very long though, since I have to leave for work here in a few minutes and want to get this bought for her today, but I'll check back in about 10 minutes, and whoever PM'd me first can have the credit.

Thanks!
Michelle

Here's the review on Platnium Tel from my friends at prepaidphonenews.com

Given they operate on the Sprint network, their data plans aren't very generous, at all (for the same money per month, if you're planning on using data, you could do much better with Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile/select Straight Talk Androids, as the 2GB data they offer is much better than PT's 150/200 MB).

Thanks for the link, but I've researched every company I could think of over the past month, and based on what she's going to be using it for, they are by far the cheapest I've found.

She'll be using the "Real PayGo" plan, and she'll be using it strictly for talking and texting (I'm going to block the web from her phone).

It's only going to cost me $8.33/month for the first year, and those minutes will never expire, then I'm only going to have to pay a minimum of $3.33/month on the account after that.

And I was even able to take advantage of their deal they have going on right now, where I'm getting a $70 phone for free with the purchase of the talktime card.

From what I've found, all of the other companies I've researched (Virgin Mobile, Straight Talk, AT&T, T-Mobile, Boostmobile, etc) require at least $10/month to keep your service days. And many of them are much higher costs per minute for texting and talking.

PlatinumTel is only 5 cents/min. talking and 2 cents/text where (just as a couple examples), boostmoble is 10 cents/minute talking & 10 cents/text and AT&T is 10 cents/min talking and 20 cents/text.

Bumping this thread, because I've bought/recieved dd's phone, and am about to activate it. They still have the $5 referral credit going on, so if anyone is interested in pm'ing me their PTel phone #, I will insert it to give you the $5 credit. No catch for you, :) I promise never to call you/give your # out/etc.. just would really like to have the extra $5 credit on dd's phone as well.

Thanks!

I'm not willing to give out DD12s cell phone number - but welcome to the club. :wave2: RealPayGo is a great plan for kids....heck, I'm even thinking of moving myself over to it!!

I bought a deal where you paid $100 for the minutes and got a free LG Rumor.
She has $20 left and has used it for 8 months so about $10/month. She uses it to text primarily. 2c per text 5c per voice minute and 10c for picture mail. I think.

here's a rumor deal like I got:

CODE: RUMOR100FR expires Nov 1, 2012

I am moving my two sons to Spot Mobile. It is .10/min. for talk and .05/min for text.

You can get it in increments of $5 every 90 days. All minutes roll over. $1.66/mo is the cheapest I could find.

We can't get Sprint where we live, so I had to find an ATT, Tmobile, or Verizon plan. Spot Mobile uses Tmobile.

Tmobile doesn't get great data where I live, but their voice and text work, which is all I want my kids to have anyway (they can use data in wifi only.)

That's what I ended up getting. Got her the white one with a cool bling cover for it. It'll be loaded with the $100 when I give it to her with the instructions that if she uses it all up, she's on her own to buy more minutes (at least until her nect birthday/Christmas when I'll probably add more time for her.

Do you know if platinumtel offers these kind of offers a lot? I am in the process of researching these kinds of phones, but this offer expires in a couple days. Don't know if I'm ready to pull the trigger yet. Also, I was looking to get a phone for dd for Xmas. If I bought this now, can I wait to activate it or does the year start right away?

They've been running the deal off and on for over a year now. I'd wager that if it goes away, it'll come back soon.

But be sure to take a look at the Sanyo 2700 - it's a fabulous phone for kids. I was able to turn off picture texts (too much trouble to be had there!) with it. And it also has an extra prompt you have to reply to before it will connect you to the Internet - that's a great feature for those of us who tend to hit the Internet connection button accidentally a lot ;) I have a Rumor2 which is fine, but I like DDs Sanyo better.
