This is the dawning of the rest of our lives... AT DISNEY WORLD!!!! COMPLETED 1/6!!!!

OMG that squirrel story. I admit it. I can't help but feed animals, even though I know it's idiotic. They're just so CUTE!!! Last month when I was at the beach for the day I kept giving goldfish to this one seagull. He was so cute. AWW ANIMALS.

Anyways...

MORE ANIMALS! Ack that baby giraffe is too adorable. I want it for my own.

I knooooow! They just look up at you with their big eyes all sad and hungry looking...it's hard to resist!

I want a pet giraffe too! Or maybe two or three so they could hang out together and stuff. Yes, that is a great idea.

Day 7, Part 5 In Which More Weird Sea Life Is Discovered

After a wonderful Safari, we went to catch the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch, which both of us had never been to before. I was very excited, since it's rare that there's something at Disney I haven't seen.

The train was so cool! The seats do not face forward, they face out.

Like this:

I didn't take this... Credit goes to wdwinfo.com!

I thought that was so cool! While on the train, you get to see some backstage areas of AK, which was awesome. I'm happy they didn't jazz this little trip up with overly Disneyish things. It was really natural, just the back of Animal Kingdom, with the exception of some go ol' Disney advertising: billboards for the movie African Cats. No one was mad though, I mean, that film was amazing.

What was not so amazing was that it started raining while we were on our way to Rafiki's, so by the time we got there, we weren't so into exploring the outside areas of the attraction. I do remember seeing a bunch of adorable monkey exhibits though, so hopefully next time we can get a longer look at them.

Mom and I headed right inside, and it was very cool to see the famous animal mural in person! Sorry, I don't have many pictures, I was running out of space on my memory card cause I could not figure out how to get the pixel size smaller on my new camera. But don't worry, I bought a new memory card the next day (and have since figured out how to make the pixel size smaller).

We spent a lot of time looking at everything inside. It was a really nice break from touring the rest of Animal Kingdom. I love how you can see into the people who work here's offices and what they are working on. One of them had a real life Hidden Pictures game going on, it was so awesome! They had hidden various objects in their office (which you could see behind glass) and displayed a list of them for guests find. So cool!

There are all types of little creatures in cages here... bugs, reptiles, sea life, etc. It was so interesting to see everything, especially since most of it was stuff you don't see everyday. I recognized a lot of them, some I didn't. Which I LOVED. I absolutely love finding out about creatures I never knew existed.

Many of them were very cool, but none captured my attention and imagination so much as my new obsession.

Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you.... the AXOLOTLS!!!!!!!

7462597872_00a8746f5f_z.jpg

UM... would you look at that face?

7462598598_ece8406a9a_z.jpg

They first caught my eye because they reminded me of Flotsam and Jetsam from The Little Mermaid! Isn't that so funny? They look just like them!

Unfortunately, these guys are endangered. They're from Mexico and the pollution in the water has killed a lot of them off. :( Luckily, Disney is keeping them safe. YAY DISNEY!! Another +82394823094820 cool points for you guys.

So when I got home, I googled them, and OMG they are even cooler than I could tell while at AK.

In the pictures I took, you can't see them that well, but they have these fin...things...?!?! That are often flared up:

OK so, are you really ready to be wowed?

THIS IS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE AS BABIES:
7654338794_0a34c5cb88.jpg

AHHH!!! I WANT!!!

7654338754_458fa7492d.jpg

I know, I know, it's crazy. HOW DID I NOT KNOW THESE EXIST!?!?!

Oh Disney, you are so perfect, helping me discover even more fascinating creatures! I mean, Our Frogfish Friend (aka Paul) will always be my first love, but the Axolotls (aka Flotsam and Jetsam Jrs) are SO FREAKING AMAZING too! I can't wait to go visit them again. I hope that one day they will have some babies I could see. I would seriously cry. Ahh! I love weird creatures. I myself am a very weird creature, so I just feel a bond with them!

The Axolotls kinda took the cake for me, but I was really excited when I saw something that reminded me of Harry Potter...

I posted on Twitter:
Saw a burmese python!!! Spoke to it obviously, since I'm a parceltongue and all. No prob.

It was awesome! I've never been scared of snakes, so I spent a lot of time looking at them. I am, however, horrified by spiders. Therefore, I stayed FAR away from the tarantula. I was so not there for that. Oh my God, even seeing it behind glass made me nervous. I can't take them.

Do you know that tarantulas, on top of having giant fangs that venom leaks from, their hair is PROJECTILE? So if you're not close enough to one to get bitten, it just may send some poisonous barbs your way.

I.

Hate.

Spiders.

I'm a big fan of conquering fears... but I don't think I will ever hold a tarantula. I am positive all spiders have a pact to kill me.

Anywho.

That's all for today folks. Tune in next time where we get trapped in Animal Kingdom. Cause it's just not Disney if we're not stuck. UH... somewhere.

I love the fact that you ride sideways on the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch! I'm easily amused though....

They totally DO look like Flotsam and Jetsam!

Oh my God they are so cute as babies!!!!!!! I didn't think that was real at first, I thought you were messing with me. :rotfl2:

Wow, look at you parseltongue.

I cannot handle spiders either. Like no way, no size. I don't care if it's teeny tiny, not doing it.

what are AXOLOTLS I have never heard of these... :confused3 so strange looking but kinda cool as well.

Those creatures are so cool! I like how the ones in your photos from the Animal Kingdom look like they are smiling, but the ones from your Internet search do not look as happy. It's the Disney magic that's making them so happy! They clearly love their lives.

Ahhh I love axolotls! They are kind of popular here, in fact my co worker got one two weeks ago and wants to bring him to live at the office. His name is Axel...
(original, we know)
Maybe they aren't really endangered and just all decided to move to Australia?

Ugggghhhh spiders are just too much to handle!!
Even the thickest glass isn't enough for me to get close to them!
They are furry and evil and very upsetting!
Even after reading Charlottes Web I will never be on their side!
Just talking about them this much is making me want to throw my laptop on the ground and stomp on it.

Aaahh, Flotsam, jr and Jetsom, jr? They're so freaking cool! I love that it looks like they are smiling! Also, I have never done rafiki's planet watch, but maybe I will just have to now!

The axolotls are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute when they are babies. Like, omg.

And I totally agree with you about the spiders. They are just nasty!

Don't worry, so am I! I think it's awesome.

I know... I couldn't believe they were real when I saw them. They are too adorable and different.

Parseltongue swag. :dance3:

I've gotten better with tiny ones, I think. Like I'll still lose it if one is on me, but I can function in the vicinity of one as long as it's not hanging above me. Shudder.

what are AXOLOTLS I have never heard of these... :confused3 so strange looking but kinda cool as well.

Look them up on wikipedia! They're quite fascinating.

HAHA I didn't notice that, but you are so right! I bet even the tarantula is a happy Disney spider. Not that I want to get close enough to find out.

That is so cool! I had no idea that people kept them as pets. I want one!

I agree. They are LITERALLY too much to handle. I do not want to handle one. Ever. :lmao: Seriously though.

Started reading need to catch up :drive:

:welcome: Hi! Great to have you on board! Thanks for reading :)

Aaahh, Flotsam, jr and Jetsom, jr? They're so freaking cool! I love that it looks like they are smiling! Also, I have never done rafiki's planet watch, but maybe I will just have to now!

Aren't they? I'm so fascinated by them now!

You should definitely check out the Planet Watch. I'm so happy I finally did. It was awesome and I can't wait to go back and explore further!

The axolotls are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute when they are babies. Like, omg.

And I totally agree with you about the spiders. They are just nasty!

LIKE OMG is right. I just love those yittle guys!!!

You are so amazing with your love and appreciation of creatures! I love it.

Axolotls are so interesting! I've never heard of them either. They are adorable. Let's hope Flotsam & Jetson breed! Those babies are mindblowing wonderful! AWESOME!

Disney cracks me up. You go to AK and it's not only animals on display! Humans too! I don't know if I could work with people watching me! I would feel the need to wave every time or something. Or keep looking to see who was staring at me! Oh man!

I can't handle snakes. They freak me out soooo much. It's the way they move. AHHHHH. No thank you.

Oh my goodness. I cannot handle spiders either. Ew. I hate seeing one because then for the rest of the days I have the heebie jeebies and get all paranoid so gross. It was so awful when I lived alone and had no one to get rid of spiders for me. That was a rough year. :rotfl: I'm sure if there had been video of what happened whenever a spider was spotted, it would go viral on Youtube for pure hilarity. (Lots of jumping and screaming and throwing things and "chemical warfare". And then vacuuming...because I will not touch!)

OMG Rafiki's! I've never been over there either! That train looks awesome. I've always had a strange love for unconventional seating arrangements...

I am a strange creature as well, but I literally can't look at Jets and Flots JR! They scare meeeeee. I don't know why but fish that aren't normal fish just terrify me. (Fish that are normal fish terrify me as well though.)

AH NO SPIDERS NO NO NO. Remind me to never come in contact with a tarantula! ACK.

Awww, those axolotls are so cute, in a weird way! The babies are adorable! They look like a cartoon! :lovestruc I don't spend enough time at Rafiki's Planet Watch, I don't spend enough time at Animal Kingdom period. But in a way, that's kind of good, because that leaves more new stuff for me to explore!

Ugh...I can't stand snakes, I'm so afraid of them! I'm not a big fan of spiders either, but I'm not terrified of them, the way I'm terrified of bees! But still, I would't exactly seek one out...they're just gross. :crazy2: I'd rather just see cute, fluffy things at Animal Kingdom, give me my giraffes and tigers over snakes and spiders any day! :thumbsup2 And the axolotls, of course!

I've never been to Rafiki's Planet Watch either. I don't really know why. Maybe a subliminal fear of a mandrill jumping out of nowhere and hitting me over the head with a stick?

Has anyone pointed out that the axolotls are doing Kristen and Jess' deer face? Because they totally are.

I think we should propose an animated movie about a group of these little-known, ridiculous sea creatures (starring the frogfish, of course) to Disney. The fish in Finding Nemo were so ~mainstream.

HEEEEEEEEEEEY GIRLS of the DIS!!!!

Just wanted to let y'all know that I'm still here! I'm busy catching up on this TR (while at work....) where I'm onto Day6 and then I have all your OTHER TRs (ie Jess and Kara's) to read, ZOMG DISgirls overload.

I hope to start my PTR soon, where I'll be planning my Disneymoon and will be talking about my wedding too. It's going to be a TV theme with Hidden Mickeys! It feels great to have a ticker again, amirite?

You know my life is insane when I don't read a Lia update for an entire WEEK. Something is just not right about that!!

Awww the Axolots are SO CUTE. Especially the babies! AHHH I want to adopt one!!!

Ahh I'm glad to see you named our Frogfish friend Paul. It seems fitting. Good job :thumbsup2

I love how your trip report can make me want to go to a place that I usually overlook when I go to Disney. Seriously. Now I want to go to Rafiki's planet watch so bad. :p

Just got back from the most wonderful stay at the Wilderness Lodge and every time I heard the Livin it up song or saw Stacey you and this trip report instantly popped into my head! Haha. We had an amazing 8 day trip with few crowds, a little rain and lots of fun.

Now we can all be on the countdown for your big trip! :cool1:

HI EVERYONE!!! I'm so sorry I haven't been on here responding to your comments or posting new updates, but I have had a ton of computer issues lately (in addition to major life issues. Guys, you have no idea how much I need my upcoming Disney trip. I'd go insane without it, no question.) but I'm on my new laptop now so hopefully it won't explode or something. OUR TRIP IS JUST OVER A MONTH AWAY!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T STAND THE WAIT ANY LONGER!!!!!!!! It's starting to feel more real, and I just freak out every time I think about it (which is approx. 82329398 times a day). I'm so busy, I'm so frustrated, life is just not going well but at least I will be in my happy place soon!!!! :beach: Just thinking about it gives me chills and often brings a tear to my eye. If I can just...hang on... a bit longer.... :scared:!!!!!!!! Whew. Ok. Onto the replies.

Aww thanks. I can't help it. They're all just so fascinating and beautiful to me! I got emotional over a goat at a petting zoo the other day. Seriously. And this cow had a really strong reaction to me and I was overwhelmed by it and felt like a terrible person for not being a vegetarian. Sigh.

Ahh I really hope they breed too! If they have babies when I go next month I will FREAK!

I agree, that would definitely be an odd feeling of being watched by guests while working. And what about the vets who have to perform the procedures while people watch through the glass! Like that isn't nerve wracking enough!

The way snakes move does skeeve me out but I think the way spiders move is so much more horrific. I don't know what I'm going to do when I live alone. I'm going to have to make friends with a few neighbors so I can call them when I need a spider disposal, because I can hardly even be in the same room as one without panicking.

OMG Rafiki's! I've never been over there either! That train looks awesome. I've always had a strange love for unconventional seating arrangements...

You should definitely make some time for it next trip. I loved it!

They scare you? But they're so adorable! And harmless, as far as I know. Oh come on... you know you wanna pet one. ::yes::

Awww, those axolotls are so cute, in a weird way! The babies are adorable! I agree! I love weirdly cute things.

You should totally explore Animal Kingdom more. There is so much to discover!

I'm not really TERRIFIED of bees... unless they were in a pack. A couple of bees is fine, I mean it's not like I want to get stung, but I accept them as a part of the environment. Whereas with spiders, I'm just convinced even the smallest, singular spider is on a mission to attack me. LOL.

I've never been to Rafiki's Planet Watch either. I don't really know why. Maybe a subliminal fear of a mandrill jumping out of nowhere and hitting me over the head with a stick?

:rotfl: You just never fail to crack me up. I had no idea Rafiki is technically a mandrill. I just thought he was a baboon? What else don't I know about the Lion King? This is fascinating. .....OhmyJesus. I just google image searched "mandrill". I don't suggest this unless you don't want to sleep until 2015.

:lmao: I didn't realize but yes, of course they are. The deer face is going to take over Disney World, I'm tellin' ya.

LOL yeah, we are so doing Hipster Nemo. Now that you've got it in my head, the possibilities are too endless...

HEEEEEEEEEEEY GIRLS of the DIS!!!!

Hey Yuki!! Glad to see you're around! Thanks for catching up. I CAN'T WAIT to read your PTR. Having a Disneymoon is my dreaaaaaaaaam. I'm so happy for you and Andrew! And YES, oh boy does it feel great to have a ticker again. Whew.

Oh my Goodness, I know. I feel your pain. Being too busy is just...ugh.

I want to adopt one too!

Haha, the name came from the update in which I called the less popular Frogfish in the tank Ringo. Which would make Our Frogfish Friend Paul, of course. I don't know. I'm a nerd.

That's a great compliment! Yeah, you definitely have to check it out. You would love it because like me, you appreciate the whole of Disney, not just the most popular stuff. I'm sure you'd have a great time there. I can't wait to go back!

love the TR. i'm in!!!:coffee::scratchin

Hi! :welcome:!!! Thanks for joining us!

Just got back from the most wonderful stay at the Wilderness Lodge and every time I heard the Livin it up song or saw Stacey you and this trip report instantly popped into my head! Haha. We had an amazing 8 day trip with few crowds, a little rain and lots of fun.

That is just too awesome that Stacey reminds you of me. I'm honored!!!!!

Glad to hear you had an amazing trip. Thanks for following along with mine!

Day 7, Part 6 In Which We Eat 65 Billion Years Ago

It was nearing park closing time, so we really didn't get to explore every crevasse of Planet Watch like we wanted to. Ah well, that just leaves more exploration for next time. It was awesome finally visiting this attraction. Disney's "road less traveled" attractions are always something I walk away from thinking, "Why don't we do this more often?" My mom feels the same way. We can't wait to go back!

As we walked out of the building, it was coming down pretty hard outside. We were forced to rush past the adorable monkeys and over to the Wildlife Express Train Station.

On the way back to Africa, it started monsooning outside. When we got there, I expected bizarre sea monster looking things to float by me like in the movie Jumanji.

It was just that bad.

Everyone who had been on the train just hung out even though the park was closing.

I didn't really mind. If you have to be stuck somewhere, Animal Kingdom isn't a bad place for that to happen. I thought it was kinda cool actually. We were in the back of Africa, it was pouring and starting to get dark. No one was around except those of us who had been on the train and the CMs. It was creepy... in a good way!

The CMs were super nice and said we could all wait out the rain in the station even though the park was technically closed and we should have been, you know, leaving.

After about 20 minutes, it slowed down and we started to head out.

There was an odd calm about the place after the storm passed. It was quite nice. I wish we could have stayed.

I looove being here at night. It is so peaceful! I wish they'd do evening EMH more often. When we got to do that on our 2010 trip, it was so awesome to experience a near-empty, near-dark AK! This time, we had to head right out of the park, but I wish we could have explored more.

My favorite Christmas tree <3

7462601014_6cc420e103_z.jpg

We went back to Pop Century to change out of our wet clothing and then we were off to dinner!

I originally planned on us eating at Paradiso 37 that night, but for some reason, we didn't feel like doing that at the time. Often, despite my obsessive overplanning, we just end up doing whatever we feel like in the moment. So I called to cancel, and I don't know why really, but we settled on T-Rex.

Sidenote: I'm pretty bummed about the new policy of charging $10 for canceling some restaurant reservations on the same day. Sorry, but that's a rip off. I really want to stick to our schedule very well on our October trip though (since my friend Lee-Anne hasn't been to Disney since around '96, there is a LOT of ground to cover... and it will just be easier to accomplish if we stick to the plan), so it probably won't affect us. However, my mom and I like having the freedom to do whatever on our trips, and it's just annoying. Gah.

Anywho...back to that night leaving Animal Kingdom. I was interested in trying T-Rex just because I love Rainforest Cafe and I knew it was owned by the same company. Plus, there are dinosaurs inside. So.

When I suggested it to my mom, she was totally in. Instead of calling Disney Dining, I called T-Rex directly on the way to Downtown Disney to ask what the wait time for 2 people was and she said there was no wait at all. It's so funny, I've heard so many times how busy this place always is, but I swear, nothing is busy in early December at Disney except the Christmas events. It's just an amazing time to visit.

When we arrived, they asked if we'd like to sit at the bar. I had always wanted to sit in the Ice Age Room (it changes color, HELLOOO!!), but we
said yes to sitting at the bar because it looked awesome.

I mean, there was an octopus hanging over this bar. I don't know about
where you live, but we don't have octupusses ANYWHERE NEAR our bars here.

Especially giant ones.

View from our seats.

I was pretty impressed with the menu because of the MANY different choices. Everything sounded so delicious and there were a lot of things I wanted. I was dying for steak though, so I ended up getting the filet, as did my mom.

It was so epicly delicious that I was way into eating it before I manged to take a pic...

7462602822_3ab7353276_z.jpg

Triceratop Filet - Charbroiled center cut aged tenderloin filet, topped
with a stack of butter and served with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted
vegetables.

OMG THIS WAS SO FREAKING GOOD. My mom and I were devouring it. It ended up being one of those epic meals where you're SO hungry and tired and ready to eat and what you order just hits the spot so PERFECTLY.

The steak was juicy and tender and the spices on it were AMAZING. Seriously, the flavor on this steak was some of the best I've ever had, and I have had a lot of good steaks. The mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious as well. And listen, I don't eat vegetables at Disney World but these were unbelievable! I LOVED them! They had the same seasonings as the steak and were cooked perfectly so that they had the right amount of crunch in them and I was in heaven. We both ate EVERYTHING off our plates.

T-Rex got 2 VERY enthusiastic thumbs up from us! It's such a fun and
different atmosphere and we absolutely loved our food. Try it!

Up next: More EMHing but with less sleeping in Disney.
