.....soooo, my DH has made mention [several times now] that he would like to go to WDW for the Christmas Holidays. Great, right? And, for my birthday last Sunday, he included in the card a Disney gift card for, let's just say, 'quite a substantial amount'....Mind you, I still have a Disney gift card for $150 from last year's Mother's Day. And, he has almost another 500 points on his Disney Visa which will eventually be transferred to his Rewards card. I also have about $140 (give or take) on mine, so you're talking more than $1,000 to go towards our vacay.

Our last WDW visit was 2 summers ago (Aug 2010), in which we stayed with friends at their timeshare (off-site) and before that was Dec 2007, at which time we stayed at the Dolphin, with the teachers' discount. My point is, the last time we actually stayed at a Disney resort was quite a while ago....anyhoo, I researched to see if I could come up with room codes or any package deals. Trouble is, between airfare (we'd be flying from the NYC area)and what it's gonna cost for 3 of us, it'll still be a small fortune! I'm afraid this is going to leave a bad taste in my DH's mouth and he'll be likely to change his mind about going. Anyone who knows of his antics, fully know of what I am speaking.....I wanna get all psyched about this possible trip - I mean, after all, the planning is HALF THE FUN of a WDW vacay! :confused3 I'm already a 'Debbie Downer' before I've even called CRO or done one single thing.....

Eh, life is short and it's only money. I've heard a lot of bad news this week about young people so I say go and have a great time with your family. If the airfare is a fortune, don't tell your DH. ;)

If your're near NYC, would it be cheaper to fly out of Philly? What about the autotrain?

It's like your tags.

There is ALWAYS a better tag .....er ..... Discount code around the corner.

Disney is expensive. Just keep looking for the best value for mOney.

And congrats on getting DH to agreeing to this trip.

Kimmar,
Have you been checking the new Fall discounts? Have a look, you might find something nice. :goodvibes
I have no idea of your dates, I just popped in Dec 18-21 for grins. AKL was available. :)

Hey, I just noticed the tag fairy stopped by your place! No more Christmas Story! Is that a dancing cow I see???

....we've been flying out of AC lately, because Spirit has been cheaper....unfortunately, the 'Free Dining' ends the 20th of December and 'Room Only' discounts end Dec 22. The earliest we could leave IS the 21, so one day would be reasonable, but not the rest of the trip. Plus, there's the expense of the park tix, PLUS our meals....I really should be ecstatic that this could actually come into fruition, but I keep getting a sense of doom....

....that would be the resort-of-choice but those dates don't work for me.....It's like, WDW is just short of my grasp....

Yep, it will cost a small fortune. Welcome to Disney. No doubt about it - it takes a heck of a good chunk of change to vacation ala Disney. Have you dared to look at ticket prices? A $1000 isn't going to go far at all. And on top of it you want to travel to Disney during the Christmas holidays? The granddaddy of highest possible seasonal prices? Everything from airfare, to hotels, to dining will be higher around the holidays. And we haven't even discussed the bone-crushing, sometimes shoulder to shoulder crowds. :rolleyes

If you want to go at that time of year, you have to take a deep breath and pay the cost.

Would you be able to split your reservation, arrive on or before Dec 22nd? Do that for the first part-on the discount, and then book a separate follow on at rack rate (or AAA rate, something like that?) for Dec 23rd onward. I've done that before, and it really helps. Hope you can work something out!

I know it's not exactly what you want but do you have an option to rent a timeshare week from someone & stay offsite? We use SIL's and pay her the transfer fee. It works out much cheaper to do that & pay for a rental car rather than stay onsite.

Hope it works out! I'd love to see Disney at Christmastime too!

....and here's the thing: I'm one of those 'I'd-rather-stay-at-ANY-WDW-resort-than-stay-at-home' kinda gals, but during our most recent WDW stays, it was at the Deluxes and I know that my DH wouldn't be interested in staying at a Mod or Value anymore....

....our last WDW vacay was at Mystic Dunes....it was a very lovely place, but I know my family and when someone wants to leave a park, WE ALL HAVE TO LEAVE (not to mention the added expense of a car rental...:guilty: ). whereas, if someone wants to go back to the room, they can simply hop a Disney bus....

You certainly get spoiled at the deluxes, that's for sure. If this level of accomodations is what DH now wants, have you considered looking at DVC - resale - specifically? You can get some great deals on DVC contracts and once you're in the DVC villas, you can't imagine going back to the Deluxe's!

Deluxe pricing at the holidays is mind-boggling.

We just came back from the Disneyland Hotel. If it weren't for our DVC points, I could never justify paying the cash price. I am spoiled by DVC.

Why would you all have to leave?
