Hi everyone,

We just booked the 4 night from Galveston and it was suggested I start a new thread since this was orginally an 8 night itinerary.

We're going to visit family in Houston and decided as long as we were taking DD2 to see great-grandmom we may as well add a few days and take a cruise.

We'd love to do a meet and a FE.

You beat me to the thread!!! I just booked this cruise for us and four of our adult children. I have headed up several FE exchanges and attended several meets, so I will be glad to keep up with that and I hope we have several others join us. I had looked at the original thread and noticed there was only one that looked like they might also go on this itenerary.

We have been on the Wonder twice and the Fantasy this last May. Loved both of them and we are looking forward to the Magic, especially since we don't have to fly to Florida to get to it!!!

Look forward to chatting.

Hi everyone! Joining in for the Feb 1 Magic Cruise! My DH and I will be leaving our 4 kiddos home and doing this cruise by ourselves. But don't hate me for leaving the kids - we are all going on the Disney Dream in May. We live in Missouri and driving to Galveston is only 12 hours away. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I do wonder - do adults cruising without kids participate in the FE exchange? I'm a big kid at heart, but I haven't been on a Disney Cruise before and am unsure about the FE if we don't have kids with us. Actually I can't imagine doing anything without kids - going to be so fun!!!! I'd love to hear anybody's recommendations for port excursions and activities in Cozumel.

Considering all my kids are adult and we have always done the FE each time we cruise.......does that answer your question?

I think each exchange we have been involved in on our three previous cruises have had almost as many cabins without kids as did with kids. It is just fun. Join us and see.

We were in Cozumel on our cruise in May and we did the Mayan ruins and highlights and will probably do it again so the kids can experience it. I have some friends that go there a lot that say they love the beaches.

As I said some of our kids will be with us but the youngest is 26 so everyone in our party is adult.

Glad you are joining us and can't wait to get to know everyone.

I got it straight now. Your thread has been added to the list :)

Kathy - yes ma'am, great answer!:cool1: I'm starting on my FE and door magnets now!!

My sister and brother-in-law will also be joining us and leaving their children at home with Grandparents as well! This will be a surprise to my hubby who has always wanted to go on an adult only (non-business) vacation together.

I appreciate your feedback on the excursions! I will check into the Mayan ruins, I had heard a lot about that one as well. I'm narrowing it down to Mayan ruins, a beach club for a day, or Xcaret.

After 2013 I will have been on 2 of the 4 Disney ships. Halfway to marking that one off my bucket list! :beach: Of course more Disney items just keep magically appearing on my bucket list.....

OK, I started a roll-call in the post I had extra near the top.
We can add as much or as little as you want.
Right now I just have the names, but we can add stateroom #'s, dining info etc.

Hope y'all have had a good week. The kids and I just got back from a week at WDW celebrating their birthdays. Very humid, but overall very good weather. Crowds were not too bad. We did everything we wanted to do, plus got a little rest in there also.

After the cruise, DH and I will have been on 3 of the ships. Whenever we get to go on the Dream will give us our Grand Slam, and that will probably be a while before we go on it. We will be on the Wonder again in September of 2013, so on one of these cruises I will probably plan on a Dream cruise. Now to get to planning for the cruise. Only four months. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone. We are booked on this cruise as well. My son will celebrate his 13th birthday on the ship. We are doing the Fantacy in December, but when I saw the prices for this one, I could not pass it up. I've talked some frineds in to going with us, and I think it will be a blast. I love that Disney is in Galveston, since we are just a 4 hour drive away. I'm so excited about this trip!

I've never participated in a FE. I have only been on two cruises before (one DCL and one Carnival). CAn someone explain how it works.. I get the general idea, guests exchange gifts in the pockets of the extenders. But whee do you get a fish extender, what types of gifts do you put in, how did this come about? As you can tell, I'm a newbie... but I'm all about Disney and love DCL.

Welcome mstee777.

The FE is a lot of fun. If you want to join, you just let me know and I will add your name to the list. Some people call it a ship version of a Secret Santa, although most of us are not secret. There is a FE thread which gives a sew and no-sew version to make your own extender or I have heard they can be found on e-bay and etsy. I have always done the no-sew version and been very pleased.

The gifts can be whatever fits your budget. I have received magnets, keychains, small bags of candy, small decorated notebooks, book markers. There are also threads that show what others have made and received. I have them somewhere, I will try to find them and list them for easy reference. Some girl started this years ago and it has grown into what it is today.

Yeah we just booked for Feb 1st Magic for me and DH. Just us adults cannot wait:banana: We are wanting to join the FE this cruise also. We just got off the Magic on Oct 20th and it was MAGICAL:cheer2: It was me, DH and DS, so this time we are going alone!! I cannot wait because I about cried when we had to leave last week:(

My DH wanted me to ask you about the cruise terminal parking.
We plan on driving down and he wants to know any and everything about it.
Price, location and so on.

We used The Lighthouse Parking Company http://www.lighthouseparking.org/ They offer all covered parking, fenced in and 24 hr security and they have a shuttle that take you and your luggage at the same time to the ship. If you prepay it is cheaper. Or go to this website and you should be able to find parking although the Galveston Port Parking Lots are not covered http://www.galveston.com/cruiseparking/

Hope this helps let me know if you need anything else.

Hello everyone! Just booked the Feb 1 Disney Magic cruise out of Galveston. I too am a newbie to DIS. My family and I have been on two previous Disney cruises, the Wonder and the Dream - and just had to book when Disney came to Texas - we live in Frisco - anyway.... we were very fascinated by the cool things hanging on people's doors and decided to try to join in the next time we cruised if possible.

We would love to join the exchange, if you are still accepting friends? But I do need some advice on how everything works. I think I need the thread about how to make one as well. Also, do you do gifts for each stateroom or one for everyone in the stateroom?

I am so totally excited about this cruise - absolutely can't wait. As of today - there are only 99 more days until we hit the high seas! :yay:

So glad you are joining us. You are not that far away from us. We are just a few miles east of Greenville and go to the Dallas area a lot. But that is the reason we booked also. In Texas, just a few hours drive, quick get-away - no brainer!!!

We will accept staterooms for the exchange til about 30 days before we sail. If we have any that join after that it will be up to the individuals concerned. On our last cruise we had about 5 join after the cutoff date and some were able to add them to their list and others could not. Some do a customized gift that requires time plus a lot of effort and that is the reason we try to have a cutoff date.

It is totally up to you how the gifts are done. Some do a stateroom gift, others do something for the kids in the room along with something special for the adults - the only limit is your budget. Please don't worry if it is not much. I have received many different things from bookmarks, magnets, themed cups and coseys (those things that can go around a canned drink) and little bags of various candies. I have also received things that people have done that were state specific and also country (some past cruises have included new friends from Canada).

I have found a lot of threads on the DIS that give great ideas for the FE and gifts plus magnets.
These are the ones I follow and believe me there is a lot of great pictures and information. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on these.

This one is called Homemade FE Gifts (Part 2)

These are two individual posts that give the basic concept behind the FE and the directions for the no-sew FE. I have made 2 and pretty much followed the directions with a few modification to suit me. Any questions please let me know and I will try to help. I am in the process of making another for this trip. My first one had four pockets my last one only had two pockets and this one will have three pockets.

This is a great one for magnets and milliepie (one of the disigners) is great! She has done a few for me and I will probably get her to do one for this cruise also.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2897587

This one is the Creative Disigns thread which has a lot of disigners that do a lot more than magnets. But most of the disigners give their photobucket accounts and such that you can go look at and get ideas and other things.

I know I have overloaded you here and don't think you have to read all of them. It took me a while to find them all, so save them for future use, and I hope it answers some of your questions.

Again, :welcome: to the group and I look forward to getting to know you and everyone else in our group!

Oh my gosh - so much to do - so little time.... Thanks so much for all the great info! I am very excited to participate with the group. About how many people do we have so far?

Here is my family:

DH - Scott
Myself - Jana
DD - Sydney - turning 14 exactly one week before we sail

We are going to be celebrating her birthday - so that should be really fun - she is so excited that she will be able to go the the Teen Club this time around.....

Thanks, Kathy!
