I haven't seen many Tokyo Dining reviews. That looks quite good as I am a huge sushi fan.

Great, great review. Look forward to more!

Awww...another great family photo! :goodvibes

I don’t think he fully paid attention in the past when I recounted our dining line up and showed him photos of what we ate… In fact, I think he wasn’t paying much attention when I was planning the trip and would rather go to his man cave and watch Swamp People on TV versus looking at dining menus with me! Hmph!!

I loved this! Sooo funny!!! :rotfl:

The hostess provided hot towels – sheesh! I was a little worried that Michael would do a repeat of his airplane antics and start washing his feet or the windows. However, I was pleased that he maintained his decorum and simply used them in the manner for which they were intended.

DSC02247.jpg

I was about to pay Michael a compliment regarding this but then after looking at your other pics, I'm thinking now that you were not seated by a window. So perhaps this was more a case of "out of sight, out of mind"??? ;) :lmao:

Seeing as how I wasn’t that hungry, I decided to see if Em would split an entrée. Wouldn’t you know it, she ordered exactly what I wanted to eat but she declared that she was hungry enough to eat it all by herself!

Emily ordered the Grilled Breast of Chicken ($21.95) – fresh boneless breast served with teriyaki sauce, fresh veggies [broccoli, carrots, & green beans], and a scoop of steamed rice.

DSC02264.jpg

Whoa, you really weren't very hungry if you wanted to share this meal! Let's see, that would be 3 bites of chicken, 1 piece of broccoli, 1 1/2 baby carrots, 6 green beans, and a tblsp. of rice! Now I know why you are so slim and trim, Brenda!
Well, that and all the miles you run everyday! ;)

It was during this meal that I got out my List of 18 from Jabead and texted her this photo to show that I was actively working the list. Also, I had to announce that I had already accomplished item #14!

2012-08-19140333.jpg

Yay, it's the first picture text I received from you!!! Well, actually that isn't completely true because my DS actually got it first. We had gone out for lunch that day and he had forgotten his phone at home. Of course, he couldn't possibly be without a phone (and in constant contact with his friends) so he borrowed mine. When your text came in, he announced to everyone..."Mom just got a text from someone named Brenda with a picture of a pretty lady." Boy did I get a strange look from my DH right about then! :rotfl2:

Being the mature adult that I am, I have just one thing to say regarding this photo...

The tempura shrimp and edamame at Tokyo Dining look very yummy to me.

You and your husband are so cute! Looks like everyone is having a good time.

I feel like a DISBoards hobo hopping on the dining review train after it has already left the station, but here I am! :D

Loving it so far! That chocolate ginger cake looks scrumptious. ^.^ Can't wait to read more!

I'm late, but here!! LOL! I'm loving your dining report! I am so anxious to read more!!

Love the hot towels!! LOL! I can't wait to read more!! I'm laughing hysterically at your kissing photo. Too funny!!

That edamame was NOT enough to share!! Everything looked yummy!

So agreed! We should have ordered at least 2!

The meal looks good! I'd lean towards the sushi! I had never had it before moving to CA and now I love it!

More vegetable tempura would have been good! I love it when they do squash tempura! And Broccoli is good too!

I love any type of veggie tempura but my favorites are the sweet potato, zucchini, and broccoli! Oh, and onion... I suppose that is called onion rings!!

This is my first DR that I'm subbing into! :thumbsup2

I am ashamed to say that I didn't know that Tokyo Dining existed. :guilty: I guess I just haven't heard a lot about it??? In my defense, I am still learning a LOT about the dining in WDW… Growing up, we never had a "real" meal at WDW. I'm willing to learn though! :cheer2:

Hi Christen! Thanks for joining! Tokyo Dining is in the same building as Teppan Edo. They are both in an upstairs part of the pavillion facing WS lagoon. You are certainly in a good place to learn about Disney Dining with all of the experts on the dining boards. I'm still learning to and have so many more to try!

Wow, you are two for three on the impression scale it seems!! My goodness, I am not a sushi person, but your tempura and the chicken/rice combo look wonderful! I've not eaten there yet, as it is hard to bypass Teppan Edo. ;)

Looking forward to more yumminess!!

I had a hard time chosing between TE and TD so this time we just booked both! :)

I tried Tokyo Dining for the first time last year and really liked it. The ambiance was modern and peaceful, the food was solid, the service was great, and the view of the lagoon was awesome. I'm so happy to see that your meal there was very good overall! I have to try that chocolate ginger cake sometime. And the origami is beautiful. :goodvibes

I think you've tried about every restaurant in WDW!! :rotfl: That makes you well rounded in your expertise!

TE/TD always have such wonderful gracious service.

Joining in..a little late. Tokyo dining looks so yummy! I will have to place that on my list. The Tempura shrimp looks very light (well as light as fried food can be). We loved Cape May for breakfast too. Keep your wonderful reviews coming!

Hi there! Thanks for joining! The shrimp tempura was perfect! I should have just ordered the Ebi (tempura shrimp meal) but then I would have wanted more veggies. It was all good and I was satisfied so I suppose mission accomplished!

Oh my, I can't believe I hadn't realised you had started your reviews. My apologies for my tardiness, I will try to do better as we go through.

Great start to your reviews. Your plane food looked WAY better than ours - obviously the difference between first class and economy. And a real glass as well. My, how the other half live ;)

That pizza from the BW pizza window looked completely gross. And how grumpy is that pizza window guy. I think there should now be an open DIS challenge to try and get the guy to crack a smile

Tokyo Dining looked great (apart from that gross-out kissing picture ;)), as did your breakfast at Cape May. Although we ended up quite liking the Beach Club, the one thing I hated about it was the smell from Cape May in the evening. We are NOT fans of fish and seafood and the smell of the clam bake made us both feel rather ill so we tried to avoid that area while dinner was being served. I think I might try breakfast though, it looked really good. You can't go wrong with any meal that involves Mickey waffles :thumbsup2

Hi there Joh!!! Between you and Jabead you may have others' following behind trying to get "Eddie" (pizza window dude) to smile!!!

I have to say that I'm not a huge seafood (really fish) fan so any fishy smell would drive me away as well.

You are soooo funny! Good think Michael and I didn't get smoochy in front of you and Gary!!!

Great meal at Tokyo Dining! We really like it there too. We go out for sushi alot at home so we usually don't make a reservation in favor of places that have food we can't get as readily at home, then by the end of the trip we find ourselves craving it. Fortunately, we've been able to walk-in with no reservations the last few trips (even on a Saturday night!). I love the atmosphere and the service is always so gracious.

I agree that TD is really no better than other Japanese or sushi places but they have consistently been good enough and the service is always wonderful so we book it. That's so good that you have been able to dine withour ADRs. We noticed the boards in the parks that showed availability at many TS restaurants that day. Interesting since I think Free Dining was in place during our dates.

I haven't seen many Tokyo Dining reviews. That looks quite good as I am a huge sushi fan.

Great, great review. Look forward to more!

Sushi fans may really like this place. :thumbsup2
Thanks for reading!

I think I have finally stopped giggling after have full blown hysteria over your funny comments - especially this one. He really is an "oh look at the shiny lights" ADD type!!!

Ha!!! :lmao: You had me wondering what I was thinking but I looked up what I ate last time and I think I have an answer... We went there for dinner last time and they give you more chicken - the veggies look the same. Here's my plate last time:

Hi there Rumpletiker - thank you for joining!!! No worries about joing late you are just in time and I'm glad you are here! Michael and Em will confirm that the chocolate ginger cake was indeed scruptious.

Hi Michelle!! Thanks for joining!!! :goodvibes You know what happens when you take kids to dinner - gotta keep an eye on them! Even when they are 50!

Your lunch looks yummy. We have never eaten in Japan in WS (we are doing Teppan Edo in December for lunch). It looks like I'll have to put Tokyo Dining on my radar for next year's trip. Although I don't eat Sushi, yours and Em's food looks really yummy. I love the "anniversary kiss."

That is one place I haven't tried but really would like too, as I love sushi and Japanese food in general. Your shrimp tempura looked really good. BTW the next time I go out to DLR I will have to let you know, it's my favorite in the whole world, even more than WDW if you can believe that.

We love sushi and have California Grill planned, how does the sushi rolls at Tokyo compare?

Oh my, page 8 and I am only just joining in! Your airplane food looks way nicer than ours. lol at the poor pizza guy. Have to agree with Wilmabride about the evening smells from Cape May, when I had to go past I tried not to breathe in ph-ew.

Looking forward to reading more (and perhaps making a cameo appearance later in the trip :cool1:)

Just found your report Brenda! I'm all caught up and waiting for more! We have our first Cape May breakfast in a few weeks. I definitely see things we will all enjoy.

Kathy I don't eat sushi either but there are plenty of non-sushi options. :)

YES!!! Please let me know if you come back out here and I would love to meet up. :goodvibes

Well, I can only go by what my family said and the sushi at Cali Grill was amazing!! The sushi at TD was just good. Just from that, I would say that CG is likely the better option.

Tokyo Dining looks yummy! Love reading your reviews! :thumbsup2

Thanks nanienamou! I'm glad that you are joining in. :goodvibes

Hi there Pinkgirl!!!! I'm so glad to see you here!! Yes, hang in there because I definitely have a space reserved for you in my DR!

Glad that I did not smell the clam bake at the BC resort seeing as how I don't like fishy-ness!

Just found your report Brenda! I'm all caught up and waiting for more! We have our first Cape May breakfast in a few weeks. I definitely see things we will all enjoy.

Hi there basketlacey! Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy your Cape May breakfast in a few weeks! How exciting that your trip is so close.

I had Tokyo Dining on my list of ADRs at one point and then I took it off. I think I will definitely try it next time though.

You and Michael are so cute! And make sure you post some photos of him in his Packers shirt. ;)

I love Tokyo Dining, and your meal looks fantastic! The comments about your hubby and the towel really killed me though, as did Barb's story about her son getting your text! :lmao: You have a beautiful family Brenda!

Hi
You and hubby are so cute together!! I'm going to have to try Tokyo Dining on my next trip!! The tempura looks great. Can you get more tempura veggies on the side and just pay extra for them? Thanks!!

Hi Brenda! I am so late so I have to go back and catch up...just wanted to tell you what a gorgeous family you have and I have pen and pad ready to make any changes/additions to my plans next month!

Hi there! Barb is hilarious! She needs a Dis dining blog... I need to start a campaign to get her to do this.

Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks disnut! I'm sure you can get extra tempura veggies. I got what I asked when I wanted more shrimp so I'm sure they would add veggies for you. And if you wave $ in their face with your request, well, I'm sure that would work fine!!

Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe

DSC02349.jpg

We didn’t get around to thinking about dinner until nearly 10pm. It was EMH at MK so there were a few choices still open that late.

How many dining reviews have a picture of a closed out cash register terminal? Well mine does!! Jealous? It looks like a Scrabble board!
DSC02365.jpg

I talked the other 3 into going to one of my favorites in Tomorrowland, Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. I have not deviated from my favorite meal at Cosmic Ray’s (rotisserie chicken) until now! They were starting to close down the food bays and the first bay to close when we got there was the Bay 1 - Chicken. Ugh! So that left the burger bay and the sandwich/salad bay. We consulted among the 4 of us and ultimately decided to try the burger bay.

Michael wasn’t hungry so just wanted fries and an iced mocha. Emily wanted a bacon cheeseburger with fries and I decided to split some lovely chili cheese fries.

As many times as we have been to Cosmic Rays (well, 3 to be exact), I had never seen the big dining room that contains the “stage” and show for Sonny Eclipse, the best lounge lizard ever!! What had I been missing? Em found a table for the four of us in that room so that was entertaining!

DSC02376.jpg

The other thing that I had not seen before was the toppings/condiments bar. Having ordered rotisserie chicken I can’t say that there was a need to add any mushrooms or grilled onion but it would have been cool to take a peek.

Toppings Bar options:

Grilled onion:

Mushrooms:

So….Can’t say much about Michael’s fries and mocha - actually I can't say anything at all since I don'trecall what he thought! Em appeared to like her bacon cheeseburger and only added pickles from the toppings bar. I took a bite after it had sat awhile and I was pleasantly surprised that it was good.

Bacon cheeseburger with fries ($9.19) (Looks like she also ordered a chocolate cake since I see that in the photo)
DSC02375.jpg

As for the rest of this meal…. Stay tuned. Part 2 next.

Mmmmm, that bacon cheeseburger sounds so good right now. Why am I craving that at 2 in the morning?! And I just finished reading DDW's AP review, which made me hungry in the first place. But I'm not craving seafood right now! Well maybe I'm craving berry cobbler, but I'm really craving a bacon cheeseburger right now! Lol

In any case, I haven't eaten at Cosmic Rays in many years, but your review so far would make me consider it again if we were in that area of the park when it's time to eat. Maybe I should wait for part 2 though before I make that decision? The last few trips, we've stuck to CHH or Pecos Bills (which I'm not a fan of btw).
