So I just got back from a 6 night stay with my family. This was our 'big' trip this year so we decided to splurge and stay at the Yacht Club w/ the dining plan. I have stayed at the YC previously for a two night stay but it was in December and a little too chilly to use Storm-along-bay and we were really busy with Disney and didn't get a chance to enjoy the YC. When we got to the YC Hurricane Isaac's bands were pretty much right over Disney. (It wasn't too bad, just light rain and it was over by 2. Nothing us Floridians haven't been through before!!;)) After staying there for two days, I was completely fed up with the YC!:furious: Hurricane Hannah's was closed and the closest place to fill our mugs was Beaches n' Cream- a good walk. The little food area in the lobby was only open in the mornings for coffee!! There was construction going on at 4 am!!! :faint:We woke the second morning to hammering that was reverberating through the walls. I called down to the front desk twice and they said they were trying to figure out where it was coming from. I can't believe that nobody would know if the construction was going on that early. I love being able to walk to Epcot but I didn't realize that there is not an option to take a bus to E. This means that we never could see opening ceremonies at E (something we love to do at each park!) The rain doesn't bother me but not having a covered area to wait for the boats while it was raining is bad. There is that little area under the lighthouse, but it was of course...full. I don't usually complain (except for the hammering) but I went to the front desk and politely asked them if there was any way we could change resorts (fully intending to pay the difference). I explained to them my frustration about the mugs- and not having a QS- the hammering, and they were like..OK, we just moved someone to AKL this morning as well. Where were you like to go? I was shocked it was so easy. I personally don't like AKL so I asked them what else was available, they looked into the computer and said, were sorry but there are no tower rooms at the Contemporary available, but I have a room at the Polynesian, would you like that?? Did they need to ask??:banana: So the next morning I packed up and moved to the Poly!!! I offered to pay the difference, but they said it was not necessary. I got a standard room at the Poly, but that was fine by me- that was what I paid for. The rest of our trip was amazing. I am so thankful to those front desk castmembers for EASILY letting us make the switch. I wish I would have gotten their names to send a thank you to them. The rest of our trip would have been a little miserable if we were to have stayed at YC. It is a beautiful place, but not for us. The other thing that really bothered me was our walk to our room! It was no kidding- about 5 minutes through a maze to get there (room 3225). If you book a standard room be aware- or ask for a room closer to the elevators- although those might be a different category. The poly was amazing!! Fit us perfectly. The monorail line is sooooo convenient and our building, Tokelau, was perfectly in the middle of everything- a short walk to the great ceremonial house and the bus stop. I am truly spoiled now and don't know if I can ever stay anywhere else on property. WL used to be my favorite, but I may have to rethink that:rolleyes1

P.S. The front desk cast member at YC told me that there might be some plans in the works for a convenient quick service at the YC!!!! ::yes::::yes::

Wow! Thanks for reporting on your experience. We are actually doing an intentional YC/Poly split stay in April. We have never stayed at either resort and we LOVE the WL (our current favorite). I am hoping that by April, all of the pool area and HH rennovations will be done and there will be peace at the YC. :goodvibes A quick service option there would be fabulous!!! We booked a Garden View and I have requested to be close to the lobby, so hopefully no long hallways for me. How was your room and everything else at YC?

Thanks for your review of the recent goings on at the YC. We stayed there Aug 7-13th, before Hurricane Hanna's refurbish. I planned and planned and planned for our YC trip, so I understand how you were frustrated. I would have been upset if I was woken up at 4AM by construction noise.

We LOVE the Poly, our favorite resort for sure! I am glad they could move you with out any issues or hassles. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with CM's going above and beyond the call.

I am so glad it worked out for you! Just an FYI, there isn't really an opening show anymore at Epcot or DHS since they eliminated the internal rope drops

Thanks for your review :). I'm sorry you didn't have an enjoyable stay at the YC, but I'm glad you were able to change resorts. I know exactly what you mean about the limited CS options. We stayed at the BC in 2003 and found it very difficult not having good CS, which is the one reason we haven't been back to an Epcot resort. We are trying the YC in July 2013 for 2 nights before a cruise, so I'm hoping the limited CS options will be ok for such a short stay. With all of that said, I'm glad you had an amazing time at the Poly. The WL was our favorite resort until we tried the Poly. We still love the WL for different reasons, but the Poly is our #1 resort choice for many reasons :goodvibes.

I'm pretty sure that the renovations will be done by April (lets hope!) The room itself at the YC is great. The bedding and beds are much more cozy than Poly- but the Poly room is bigger. The balcony was ok. The walls separating you from you neighbors don't reach the top and the bottom. So in other words the balcony runs the entire length of the outside/all the rooms and they just have partitions separating them off. Not too private. The YC also (in my opinion) had a better bathroom layout than Poly and better soaps. The YC has the sinks outside of the shower and toilet and the Poly has them all in the same doored area. The YC had these great smelling H2O Grapefruit soaps and the Poly the old blue ones- i can't remember what brand they are. Neither one of these issues are deal breakers for me. What really got me was the looooong walk to the room and the feeling of being so far away and cut off from everything (except hammering at 4 am!). The real kicker for me was no quick service option close by and no where to fill your mug!! Everything else was amazing! Enjoy your stay! We did. Oh and bring some noodles (floats) and goggles for the pool- Storm along bay!

I had stayed at YC for two nights previous to this trip and loved it (thats why we went back). I think if I were to stay there again, it would be for a short 1 or 2 night stay. I had no problem with the CS options then- except for the mug refills!! Have a good trip!

Thanks :goodvibes. I think 2 nights is easily manageable without a decent CS, although I'm having a hard time convincing my two DSs of that because every time our trip comes up, they feel the need to remind me that there is no CS :rolleyes1. We won't get the mugs for such a short stay, but I can see how refilling them would be a hassle since there's no place at the YC to do that.

Good to hear! :goodvibes I plan on making a request to be close to the lobby for sure. And we are not getting mugs this go round.

I can't wait to try both resorts! :dance3:
