Update 2/16: NOW I feel magical! ~ A July 2012 TR

It was about 1pm when we checked in for our lunch ADR at Rose & Crown, and since our reservation wasn’t until 1:20, we had a few minutes to kill. I don’t drink beer so I was the designated picture taker here:

(Lumar and Rob)

I remember that Toni and Josh shared a Scotch Egg for an appetizer, which they both really liked. I know a bunch of us got the fish and chips (including me), and I know Lumar got the Pub Burger but I don’t remember specifics. All I know is that the Welsh Dragon was, by far, my most favorite drink of the trip:

While we were eating, we noticed this squirrel come out of the bushes that line the patio, head over to a couple sitting at another table, and just stand there. The lady takes a fry off her plate, holds it out, the squirrel takes it, and heads back to the bushes. This process was repeated multiple times until the couple left. Obviously, you’re not supposed to feed the animals, and squirrels are not very nice when they get agitated so this could have turned out badly, but it was so cute to watch! And apparently, this is pretty normal because the servers just walk around him like he’s any other guest. It was adorable.

After lunch, we went back to Future World to finally use our FPs for Soarin, and we got the front row without me even having to ask! Gosh I love that ride!

After Soarin’, we went to check out Nemo and Friends...

Picture055-1.jpg

(Steph)

And here it was that we encountered the most terrifying thing ever.
An entire indoor, cavernous ride queue….filled with a sea of teenagers wearing blue t-shirts.

That’s right folks. The Brazilian Tour groups.

And they were singing/chanting/clapping. And it echoed. Loudly.

But Nemo was fun, and everyone loved that Disney was able to include animated characters in a real aquarium!

We headed back out to WS and decided to start in the Mexico side this time. We went on the boat ride (somehow, not as popular with The Mob as LWTL), then I made the mistake of getting a margarita from the stand outside.

I know that I never like it when I order it. I LOVE frozen margaritas in general, but the ones at this stand in Mexico are just so strong! The taste of tequila overwhelms the fruit flavor to the point where it’s basically undrinkable for me. I tried my best though.

photo-12-1.jpg

The guys all wanted beer and my sister was dying to try a pretzel from Germany so we headed over and got FPs for Maelstrom on the way by.

(Mike, Lumar, and Me –still working on that margarita)

By the way, my sister liked the pretzel she got at DHS better than the one she got in Germany. And she's kind of a pretzel snob

By the time we could use our Maelstrom FPs, I was about halfway done with my Strawberry-colored Tequila, and actually found myself steadying myself on the giant rock outside the Norwalk pavilion. I gave my cup to Rob to let him finish it.

After Maelstrom, we played around in the gift shop for a few:

(Lumar and Mike – I don’t know if the blurriness if from the camera or from my being slightly inebriated.)

We kept walking the loop and stopped in China to look around for a bit:

Picture082.jpg

(Steph)

I was really, really hot, and I was getting a headache so I found a bench in a quiet, shady corner, and took a random picture of the watery/grassy area at the front of the pavilion:

It was probably around 5:30 when we stopped in Italy, and even though I wanted dinner at some point in the near future, I definitely had some chocolate gelato – although I was sorely tempted to try the cannoli this time.

(Toni & Tom)

We went over to Japan where a few of us did some shopping and Rob, Mike, and Tom drank a lot of sake. Rob ended up buying a bottle but he shipped it home.

It was about 6:30 when we decided we were going to split up for dinner and meet back in Norway for Illuminations around 8pm. Mike, Lumar, and I went to Lotus Blossom, while everyone else went back to Germany. Steph and Rob finished first and headed back to China to meet up with us, where Rob then finished eating the leftovers off of my plate. (The boy can eat, that’s for sure.)

Toni called me to say that there was nowhere in Norway to sit so they were going to meet us outside China. Well the problem with China is that even though there is a bench right there on the main walkway, there are trees blocking your view of the fireworks. So I convinced everyone to follow me to Norway where I was definitely able to find a place to stand and watch.

After Illuminations, we herded out with the rest of the cattle, but we somehow got separated. Lumar, Rob, and I, found ourselves in the parking lot instead of at the bus stop. Steph called us to say that a bus was there so we ran across the lot and made it just in time!

Up next: Animal Kingdom!

That is kind of weird that you carried your own bread to the table...maybe he wanted it to be an interactive experience??

Looks like a great time was had by all in the World Showcase! The Welsh Dragon is such a pretty color!

We'll be trying breakfast at 'Ohana for the first time on our upcoming trip. I just hope Dieter doesn't greet us! :rotfl2:

Sounds like y'all were having a lot of fun at EPCOT!

In all honesty, I think he legit had no clue what the heck he was doing. :confused3

As pretty as the Welsh Dragon looks, it tastes even better! ::yes::

I love love love the breakfast at Ohana. Let's hope that by the time you get there, Dieter will have figured things out a bit better! He was super nice, just a little awkward so I'll play the "I'm new" card on his behalf!

I think the first time we went to 'Ohana, our server made us carry the bread to the table too, and I thought that was weird! Breakfast with the characters looks really cute, maybe I should give it a try sometime! Ugh, I would have been annoyed if I was forced to be in the parade, though! :sad2:

I never spend a lot of time in the shops in France either, but they are adorable! They're just a little too perfume-y for me!

Yum, Rose and Crown, I love that place! I've always wanted to try that Welsh Dragon but I wasn't sure if I'd like it, it looks good!

The margaritas from the stand are strong? I always assumed they wouldn't be, I don't know why. I've never had one from the stand, I always go to La Cava! :yay:

Glad everyone liked all the rides you went on, looks like everyone was finally having fun!

Sounds like Deiter can use a little more training.

Sounds like a fun day (minus the tour group) at Epcot.

Great pics.

I love the breakfast at Ohana! It's a pain to get to and it seems to take FOR EVER but the food is really good, IMO. The parade thing was weird and I felt like a creep but it made us laugh so it's all good! And if nothing else, it shows you that the characters really try to make the adults feel like their included and not eveything is for kids!

I heart R & C. I think R & C is my version of your LC! If you like fruity drinks, the Welsh Dragon is a definite DO. Soooo good!!

Yes, the maragaritas from the stand are WAY strong! We had margaritas inside at San Angel Inn with our dinner and they were perfect but the ones outside....Whew! And everytime I get one I say 'never again' and then I do it again!

Sounds like Deiter can use a little more training.

Yeah, I agree about training! No such thing as too much training! It was a great day, definitely! Aside from the never ending sea of same-colored shirts! It definitely reminded me about why I don't go to Disney in the summer!

Ali, I am so far behind....please forgive me (between my mother-in-law, my brother and now my mother in the hospital, I'm about to pull the hair out of my head...I can't wait to leave in 9 days).

Love the photos with the characters from breakfast and all the silly hat photos at Epcot. :thumbsup2

No worries, Kathy! As you can see, I'm way behind as well! This whole "going back to work" thing is really eating into my DIS time!

I am SO sorry that it's been a MONTH since I did an update! My new job is so overwhelming and stressful that I literally just collapse when I get home, which means that all of the household stuff gets stuffed into the weekend leaving me with hardly any free time! I'm trying to get myself back into a rhythm!
****

On our 2nd official Disney Day, Lumar and I got up at 7:30 and met up with Tom and Mike for breakfast at Olivia's. Steph, Rob, Josh, and Toni ate breakfast in their room (Steph brought their Keurig machine and groceries since they drove down).

I was really looking forward to breakfast at Olivia's, having read Kathy's reviews, and I was not disappointed! I had the Banana Bread French Toast, which was amazing but WAY too much for one person! I think I ate just about half before I called it quits. I have no idea what Mike, Tom, or Lumar ordered...But I know they all had eggs and bacon. And I remember that Mike and Tom made fun of Lumar for having his eggs over easy. I have no idea why it was so funny...maybe just because it was super early and we were all in a silly mood.

Around 9am, we met up with the others at the bus stop and headed out to Animal Kingdom!

AK is my favorite park so I was really excited to show everyone how amazing it is!

Picture088_zpsd7f0f956.jpg

The first thing we did was head over to KS and get some FPs then we trekked over to Asia and got in line for Everest which only had a 15 minute wait. This is one of my favorite pictures from the whole trip (and three of us aren't even in it...although we did get a photo bomber...):

photo-5_zpse5ee0002.jpg

I remember as we rounded that corner coming into Asia and Everest first became visible, there was a collective gasp from the group as only 3 of us had ever seen it before. It was definitely a moment that made me smile...everyone was so impressed with the look and detail, and of course, the ride itself did not disappoint!

After EE, we headed back to the Safari to use our FPs, and I knew we were in for a good ride when I saw this sticker on the inside of our truck:

We had a few giraffe that were standing super close to the trail and our driver was awesome enough to slow down to a crawl to let us take a million pictures.

As we rounded the next bend, I couldn't help but notice that our beautiful day was being threatened by ugly dark clouds...

20120719_64_zps194ee365.jpg

I hoped it would pass by and continued to enjoy the rest of our safari:

(Still in Pangani)
This was kind of funny… it’s hard to tell because the surface of the water distorts the view, but this crane is standing on top of the hippo:

As we left Pangani, it started to rain a bit and we were all feeling a bit hungry, so we headed back to Discovery Island for lunch at Pizzafari. We all crowded around a table and practically inhaled our food.

After we ate, we were glad to see that the rain had stopped, and we started to head over to ITTBAB, but we saw a sea of blue shirts heading in and opted to come back later. Instead we trekked over to Dinoland and got in line for Dinosaur, which only had a 20 minute wait.

Photo0019FourBySix_zpsffa0de6c.jpg

After our terrifying journey to the end of the cretaceous period, we went back to Discovery Island to see ITTBAB.

When the doors opened at the end of the show, we were met with a nasty downpour outside. We huffed it over to CMM to catch the next showing to FOTLK, and were completely drenched by the time we got there. Thankfully, they opted to turn off the AC (or at least turn it down a bit) so we weren’t freezing during the show. My sister had taken a few pictures but they came out pretty blurry.

Everyone really liked the show, I think we were in the elephant section, but when we left, it was still raining. We made the executive decision to go on KRR, since we were totally soaked anyway, and then head back to OKW.

KRR was SO much fun, but we literally did not have a dry spot on us when we got off. Of course, as we made our way to the exit, the rain slowed way down to a drizzle. We took a few PP pics on our way out:

Photo0031FourBySix_zps5d494cbd.jpg

Photo0030FourBySix_zps5d5d8cfa.jpg

Photo0028FourBySix_zps2a684d26.jpg

And then we froze our behinds off on the longer-than-usual bus ride back to OKW.

When Lumar and I got back to our room, we were standing there talking for a minute when all of the sudden we heard the door next to ours slam, and then the people over there started shouting at each other. They had a kid with them that was crying, but the two adults were just going at it! Oddly enough, the only words we could really pick out were the bad ones. It was pretty awful to hear and I hoped it didn’t happen again, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be so.

After everyone had showered and changed into dry clothes, we headed over to the room that Steph, Rob, Toni, and Josh were sharing. We chowed down on some snacks and played this game called Cards Against Humanity. I’d never heard of it before but WOW was it FUN! It’s dirty and occasionally offensive but we had a blast playing for a few hours! Then we got yelled at by the next door neighbor for laughing too loudly and it kind of killed the mood so we went our separate ways to get some sleep.

Of course, Lumar and I get back downstairs only to hear MORE arguing from next door. I thought about calling the front desk and complaining but they quieted down after a few minutes! I just felt so bad because I could hear the kid and the mother crying while the guy was yelling his head off. I wonder now if maybe another neighbor called the desk and complained and that’s why they stopped? No one should argue like that in Disney…especially in front of their kid!

Next up….MAGIC KINGDOM!!!

Ali, I'm with you...I really love AK (I used to dislike it, but it grew on me over the years and I would rather go there than the Studios any day. I have to say that I love all the photos of you and everyone, but the ones of ALL of you together just put a smile on my face...you can see the fun you are having.

I am so glad you enjoyed Olivia's; Mark and I didn't get there in September, but I hope to get there for next year's trip (yes, we'll probably stay at OKW again).

I'm sorry about the fighting neighbors...I would have called the front desk. And I feel so bad for that child.

I like DHS but it just seems to need more stuff! It's like once you do ToT, RNRC, and TSM you're done. It needs MORE!!

I also love all of the group pics! Thank goodness for PhotoPass! I have a huge collage frame waiting for when I finally get them all printed!

I wish we'd had time to eat at Olivia's more often! We really enjoyed it!

Ugh, I felt awful for the kid next door... it was so sad :(

Great update! Olivia's sounds really good for breakfast, I should give it a try since I'll be close, staying at POR! :thumbsup2

I love all of your Safari pics! What kind of camera do you have, is it a DSLR? I need a new camera so I'd love to know what you have!

Aww, your photopass pics are adorable! PP photographers never make us do weird poses like that, they must just think we're boring or something!

Ugh, first those people fighting, then you guys get yelled at for being loud? :crazy2: I would be really annoyed if I had to listen to people fight, and listen to some poor kid cry. I don't get how people can get so mad in Disney World. Sad.

:laughing: Didn't you just GET a new camera!?! Mine is a Canon Powershot SX10. Not a DSLR but it's about the size of one so it's not one I can carry in my pocket. I end up hardly ever using it anymore because Lumar has a small pocket size one that's more convenient. I'm honestly thinking about selling this one and getting the Powershot SX260.

When Lumar and I go to WDW just the two of us...we hardly ever get asked to do anything fun. But doing "fun stuff" in pics usually embarrasses the heck outta me so when the PP photographers DO ask us to do one, they never come out good!

Yeah, I felt terrible for the kid next door...and for the wife/mother, too. She was just crying the whole time the guy was screaming. And to make things worse, they were there to celebrate something because they had one of those custom made banners on their door that said "We're Celebrating!" Broke my heart every time I saw it! :(

I totally forgot to include this in my last update!!

So Wednesday afternoon, after we left AK, we went back to OKW and dried off, then hopped on a boat for DTD in search of dinner!

Picture002.jpg

Picture004.jpg

(Mike...yeah...we're related.... :confused3 )

When we arrived at DTD, we opted to just keep going and head straight to the BW. Mike and Tom wanted to go to ESPN and the rest of us opted for Big River Grille.

Picture003.jpg

And that concludes the pictures I took this fine evening. I drank kind of a lot of Big River. :rolleyes1 We had a REALLY good time and the food was really good (so was whatever delicious drink I had three of).

After dinner, we met back up with Mike and Tom. I can't remember if it was free or discounted, but they got hooked up at ESPN Club because my brother showed his military ID and the bartender wanted to show his appreciation for his service overseas. :lovestruc

We headed over to the bakery and I got ice cream, and then had to inhale it because they wouldn't let me take it into Jellyrolls.

If you've never been to Jellyrolls, GO! I can imagine it being crazy on the weekends, but even on this random Wednesday night, it was a full house and it was SO MUCH FUN!! Definitely one of my favorite parts of the entire trip! They even sang "Am I A Man or Am I A Muppet" from The Muppets Movie! Seriously, GO! Cover is cash only and if you want them to play your song, tip the performers! We gave them $1 with each song we requested and they played every single one we asked them to!

I know we ended up leaving here REALLY late...as in, we were pretty sure we got one of the last buses. Which means, we didn't play Cards Against Humanity this night. I'm still trying to figure out when that happened....I think it might have been on Thursday which is, ironically, coming up next!

Looks like y'all had a fun day in AK! :thumbsup2

That's so sad about hearing the parents argue next door....especially since their kid was with them. :sad1:

Sounds like a fun night around Boardwalk!

AK really is a beautiful park! Glad you guys had a good time there!!

We have ALWAYS wanted to go to Jellyrolls, but always forget to!! Someday we definitely will, I've heard such good things about it!!
