SSR or OKW?

As I mentioned elsewhere, my friends and I are going to try to upgrade our resort for next year's holiday.

We are currently booked for POFQ, but if all works out with upgrading and getting the standard DDP, then we will upgrade to SSR or OKW.

So here's a question for you: SSR or OKW?

None of us have stayed at either, so you really need to guide us :goodvibes We are a group of four twenty-somethings who are all best friends, and so no kids or anything to worry about. Yes, we know we will be sharing beds :rotfl:

I'd love to hear your thoughts on which you prefer. And also any building/location requests too :)

Please help :worship::worship::worship:

I think OKW will be a better fit as it has 2 proper beds in a studio where as SSR has a bed plus sofa bed.

We love OKW as it has a real 'Florida' feel to it :goodvibes

I've got experience of both resorts as I have DVC at SSR but have used my points to stay at OKW several times and personally I don't think you can go wrong with either resort. In fact they are very similar in many respects.

However if I was to choose one I'd go for OKW. The rooms are larger on average, the atmosphere is wonderful, etc. I think that OKW is what SSR will become when it's finally had time to mature.

The only negative about OKW is that it has no real CS food court like the newer resorts, and the place it does have (Good Food to Go) is a bit sub par IMO. However they make up for it with Olivia's. :)

if you could squeeze the budget to manage a 1 bedroom at OKW then you would have loads of space plus it would mean (not sure how many of you there are) that each of you might get a bed. The sofa and chairs in the lounge are beds as well.

We loved OKW the laid back feel was wonderful. Nice little pool bar as well and the location close to DTD is great.

I would definitely go for OKW! :thumbsup2 You'll have more room and two proper beds instead of 1 bed and a sleeper sofa. I love OKW for the relaxing laid back feeling (mind you if I was in my twenties I might feel different! :rotfl2:) We usually stay there and have never had a bad experience. I've never stayed at SSR so can't really comment on that. Personally I don't think that you can go wrong with either one. It just depends on what you priorities are! :goodvibes

I love SSR but I think OKW might be a better fit for you guys, as the rooms have two beds, rather than a bed and a sofa bed. Having said that, the proximity to Downtown Disney from SSR might be preferable if you're wanting a few drinks in the evening. :)

Totally agree with this :)

Ive stayed OKW, and booked for next year SSR. Id agree with the PPs regarding the 2 beds as opposed to 1 bed and sofa.

Have fun!! x

Personally I would say SSR and would request Congress Park. SSR is the closest resort to Downtown Disney and is within walking distance of Pleasure Island which I guess would appeal to your age group and Congress Park overlooks the lake and is the nearest accommodation to Downtown Disney

We've just got back this morning and our first week was spent at OKW. We all fell in love with the resort and would have no hesitation staying here in the future.
The boat was fantastic and ran every 20 minutes, the staff were lovely and so friendly and housekeeping were excellent.
We also had a free upgrade to a 1 bed from a studio and would have one of these again in the future. The whirlpool bath and separate shower room with the loo and another sink in it would be great when not travelling with direct family.
We went next door to POR to their food court for breakfast as there was so much more choice than the little outlet at OKW. We have stayed at POR so knew what to expect there.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the above advice :)

I just went ahead and rang WDTC, and have upgraded us to a studio at OKW! Whilst a 1bed would have been nice, we really don't mind, and would rather save that bit of extra money.

So, for an extra £139.50 each, we have ended up staying in OKW and with the DDP rather than QSDP! So excited :cool1:

We have a hell of a long way to go, but I'm already thinking of ADRs! You can't stop me :rotfl:

Just saw on FB - think you will love it and have a great time.

SSR only works for Downtown Disney if you in one of the blocks that are near the lake, as we were last year. Then it is abot 10 mins walk time to DTD. Flipside is you are almost 10 mins walk to the main reception and restaurants! If you get one of the further away blocks you could be left wit a very long walk, it is a BIG resort area.

That's not necessarily true. We have stayed at The Springs twice, which is the closest block to reception etc. If you walk to the boat dock, there is a walkway just beside it, going past the golf course and coming out at Cirque. In total, this journey takes around 15 mins at a regular walking pace.

Congrats on booking OKW Beth! :)

We have booked SSR for August next year.
We preferred POFQ to OKW butt had a great holiday at both. I love Pop and AKL Coronado springs was pretty good and enjoyed All star movies. I know people really love OKW but not us we would probably go elsewhere. This is purely an opinion of a resort and our enjoyment, others may find the resort delightful

One question I have about OKW is this:

Do they have somewhere where you can grab like a croissant or cereal for a snack credit on a morning? Do they sell these at the general store or can you get in Olivia's? I know you can at the AP in SSR but this is a big thing for us as we're the 'grab and go' type of guests!

And also - is it true that at SSR, the studios have one queen bed and one queen sleeper sofa? This seems very poor for a deluxe villa? Even the moderate standard rooms always have two queen beds?

We buy cereal and milk from the shop and have that for breakfast. There is one grab and go counter for breakfast but I prefer getting something and putting it in fridge which is our plans for feb :)

OKW was the first DVC resort and the only one with 2 beds in the studio.

The sofabed is so you have somewhere to sit and relax as they are designed as home away home hence the kitchenette in the studio too.

Congrats on booking OKW Beth! :)

Boat from Springs gets overloaded at peak times, twice been diverted in the last two weeks I was there to pick up excess SS passengers while staying at OKW.:beach: Done the walk from the dock to West Side, 15mins, 20 - 25 to the rest of DTD.
