The pools on the Magic were GROSS. Little kids kept pooping in the pool because their parents ignored all the signs saying kids needed to be toilet trained. They had to shut down the pool EVERY DAY. It took them 5 hours each time to drain and then sterilize it. Also my daughter went in the pool the first day and she got athlete's foot from it. (we didn't go in the pool so we didn't get it.) Avoid the pools!!!

DCL should levy a hefty fine against the parents for such an infraction. I'd say $500 would stop the poop situation! Nothing teaches respect and courtesy faster than a financial consequence.

Probably not going to happen because it'd be too hard to prove the poop!!!! Hahhaahaha, , but you're right! more the parents fault than Disney's. People disregarding the rules...

Not sure because we didn't hang out there. Just every time we walked by it was closed and when I asked why I was told a kid pooped in the pool. It is totally the parents fault. I agree Disney should fine repeat offenders. They should also hire a monitor to make sure there are no swimmies, babies and toddlers. I saw a ton of those, and the signs are clear. Only toilet trained children. There was a sprinkler area for those kids but I guess some people just disregard the rules and ruin it for everyone else.

I disagree. Kids swimming, even potty trained ones when having fun, don't think so much about using the bathroom. Did you know someone poops daily in a Disney resort pool? I found that our a few years ago...and I believe it because on 2 separate trips we've been to pop the pool has been close 3 times for that exact issue. Thats when we found out it happens ALL the time.

It's not just poop that closes a pool. DS2 threw up in the kids pool on NCL last January, closing it for the rest of the day. I know a few people seemed upset that "someone pooped in the pool", but when I told them it was my youngest who threw up, everyone asked if his tummy was feeling better : Stuff happens.
Since the pools are not chlorinated, the sanitation is much more difficult. Ironically, our home salt water pool is the easiest thing to take care of ever...but it makes chlorine out of the salt

We'll have to agree to disagree...As a parent of 3 (2 fully grown now)...I surely have never known when my kid has needed to poop. Heck I don't know when I need to till the urge comes.

I completely agree with this. As a parent, you know if there is a chance your child won't be paying attention. I agree that you don't have control over if your child vommits and things can happen. But if there is any chance your child might go in the pool, they don't belong in the pool. Especially if the ship has other areas dedicated for that age group. Yuck! I'd hate to be the parent reponsible for that happening. I doubt I'll go in the pools.

The pool at our homeowners' club has a solution that seems to work great and would be easy enough for DCL to implement: all kids out of the pool for the first 10 minutes of every hour. When you make them get out anyway they use the bathroom while they're out. The pools are not staffed with lifeguards for enforcement - someone just comes out on the hour and yells for all the kids to get out and then 10 minutes later they walk around and tell them all they can get back in. Works great.

That said, poop or not, there's no way you could convince me to get into the kid/pee/sunscreen soup that is the family pool.

I have to say I respectfully disagree with this. It is unfortunate that this happens and the pool has to be closed, thus depriving others of a fun time. But I think we all need to remember that they are just kids- kids in a new environment, eating new food, probably on a different sleep schedule, and unfamiliar with a lot of things going on around them that derails them from their normal routine. In their excitement, they may have an accident. Or it crept up on them and they couldn't control it. I don't think it reflects badly on the parents at all. I've seen parents take potty trained kids to the restroom every 10 or 15 minutes and kids would still have an accident. They're kids. Do I think the parents are bad when a kid has an accident in public? No. Do I think the parents are bad when a kid pees in the bed at night? No. Just remember that there aren't any adults peeing or pooping in the pool. Why? Because they are adults. \

While gross, it just seems like a fact of life for a situation where hundreds of children will be taking part...someone is going to have an accident. If you are the fortunate or highly observant parent who's child has never had this happen, congrats and good job! For the rest of us, I would try to be understanding that it sometimes happens even if you do everything right and are the Bestest Parent that Ever Parented. I have seen lazy parenting on DCL and many other places, to be sure, but I generally think most parents really do try to keep their kids from having accidents. But, they are called "accidents" for a reason.

This is what my conclusion is on the DCL pool rules.....

They won't allow swim diapers in the pool (swim diapers will hold the poopy in, they won't hold the pee pee however).

So the kids cry to go swimming cause heck its vacation and its Mickey's pool.
SO the parents solution just take off the swim diaper and let them swim.

I'm not saying thats right because rules are rules.
But if the kids go in with the swim diaper on disaster averted.

We couldn't even go to that deck with our Grandson during our cruise because he wanted that pool so badly and he wasn't fully trained yet.
It really seemed so unfair to me that he couldn't swim, but we followed the rules.

Here are my fears about our first ever cruise coming true before we even leave. We're probably going to be surrounded by holier-than-thou "super parents" who think they know everything, like the person above. If they're on the boards, they'll most certainly be on the ship. Bummer.

Children whom are not potty trained are not supposed to be in the pools, just the splash zones. They can be kids, but parents need to be parents. The parents need to respect the pool rules, so that the kids can learn the same. Not sure why is this such a difficult concept to grasp? The OP and others are commenting on children whom are obviously not potty trained/in swim diapers (e.g., I witnessed an approximately 18 month old with a binky in his mouth, but sans any clothing) in the Mickey pool. Parents right there. Aw, isn't he cute? I told my 7 y/o to get OUT of the Mickey pool. "Why, Mommy?" "Because you don't want to swallow pee or poop from the babies that are not supposed to be in this pool" (pointing to naked baby).

If we're going to shrug and say it's no big deal to poop in the pool then why not just let the little kids in - as a prior poster said, at least my son's poop would stay in his swim diaper.

In my mind if your child is not yet potty trained then he or she is not old enough to be in the pool without you. And while I can see (and expect) pee accidents, poop is a little harder to do by mistake. I have not yet been on DCL with my son, but at my last trip to DW most of the kids were in the big pool or the splash pool by themselves. I would imagine its difficult to stop a poop in action from the comfort of a poolside chair...

We'll be happy and poop free in the splash pad.
