The Cars Land Wide Right Technique: How to be one of the first 20 people on RSR w/MM

We did this today, and we werewe're 3rd & 4th in line. In the 1st car. Bad thing that our racing car was empty. We got to the main gates at about 6:50 and the line was about 20-25 people deep.

Some recently reported that disney did not use rope drop when they were there so the technique did not help them. CM's were telling people not to run but without a rope holding them back, of course people rushed to line up. The ride is on the right side of CL but if there is no rope drop, all bets are off.

We used it on Friday and worked great. There were 8 people in front of us when we entered the queue. We did EE & they did use the rope.

For EMH this morning, everyone was power walking/running to CL - but once the crowd hit CL, they held us up and we all followed McQueen slowly down the road. It did benefit us to be on the right because of course we had to turn right, but it wasn't any kind of huge advantage. The huge advantage was being there for EMH. We rode RSR twice before 9:00 and zipped through the line a third time (just before the hordes came) and were first in line to hop in a car when the ride broke down. The people who had waited outside the gates for normal opening, and then at rope drop, were rewarded with a 2 hr closure. Ugh.

We were there on Monday 8/27 for EE (this would have been a non APEE early entry day; APs have it on Tuesday, so hotel guests only for DCA on Monday) and there was no rope drop, so wide right did not do us any good. They just told us not to run. For the most part, people actually didn't! I saw they did a rope drop later on that day for regular entry -- I didn't notice where it started, though.

Seriously telling people not to run was so laughable. They would just look at the cast member like "what you going to do about it?" and take off. There were a number of stroller people around us that really held us back as they seemed a little "lost" kind of waffling around on their direction. Frustrating.

I am suprised how much this ride is down.

Just used the wide right technique on Friday morning - we were the 12, 13, 14, 15th people on cars that morning. Great tip!!

One more thing - I highly encourage you to use the single rider line. The regular line was 120 mins and single rider was 30. My DS8 and I were often in the same car, just 1 row apart.

are there any tips for those that will not have EE. We are staying at a nonDisney hotel. We will be buying APs but I don't see that we get the early entry after Spet. 13th...SO SAD

Hey, that must have been our group of 8 in front of you on Friday! I was on the far right hugging the line of pavement with my little guy shoving me back so he could be at the front....lol. The trick worked great...but seems to be catching on.

The wide right didn't work so well for us on Tuesday. I think it was just our group was a little slow and first time in Cars Land (we had first timers plus there were 12 of us so takes a little bit longer to get somewhere). I was still happy with the amount of time we waited. I forgot to pay attention but BIL says it was about 20 mins. It was also an APEE day so there were more people. By the time we quickly walked to RSR a line was already forming, no rope drop. DBIL and I decided to walk towards the front of the attraction while the rest of the group waiting in line just to see how long the line was and had some guy yell out " there's a line up". Yeah buddy! We know that..we're already in line just checking things out. So in other words people are pretty testy.Thursday was way better. No APEE and we steered far right and I'd say we were one of the first 20 on. We followed Mater (kept telling the family FAR RIGHT!)and followed cast member and walked right onto the ride. After riding a few more rides, DBIL and I got into the fast pass line with 4 minutes to spare to grab FP which we used later in that evening. Our FP time was 10:30 am but I double checked with a cast member and was told I could use my FP after that time.You have to ride this ride a night too.....totally different experience.

If your group was the first 8 in line then it was, too funny. You were right behind us at bag check then too, because 2 ladies were in front than moved behind us to their group.

One word: genius.

We used this technique both Monday 9/3 and Tuesday 9/4.


Monday wasn't nearly as crowded, and we were in the third car no problem. 3 of us (Me, 31, DW 27, and MIL ??). I hustled up ahead, but walked only. Rope was up, but I was on the rope one from farthest right. A bit of jostling but no biggie. Right on cue, Big Red came up the street, and the groan was audible. We used the backpack-grabbing baby elephant train and were MORE than satisfied with our placement. We then rode LFT walk-on, and Mater's walk-on. Done by 735. We then took some photos of a near-empty BVS before heading to the big park.


Tuesday was certainly busier with APEE and a later time (9 as opposed to 7), but did the "entrance gate loiter" (thanks RideMax!) and was, once again, front right. Elephant walk, Big Red, groan, 13th in line. Asked MIL if she wanted to do it again, to which she replied, "Absolutely!". We got back into Single Rider (seriously a no-brainer) and walked on. They got put together, and I was the next car. Only cramp was that the ride shut down while I was getting ready to exit, so 5 or so minutes delayed before getting out of there.

We then headed over to TSMM and walked on. After that, we hopped back in line and walked on again. We could have gone a third time, but forearms and wrists were shot at that point. Walked through the PP entrance to Carsland and ate breakfast at Flo's. Went outside to watch RSR, where it had just got going again.

Fantastic thread, and thanks so much for the heads up. Funny thing about Tuesday: the lady whose family ended up in front of us for RSR said her husband was ADAMANT that they stay "wide right". I told her he must have read the same thing I did!

This past Tues was definately a busier EE day. We stayed wide right and I managed to walk on RSR single rider then it broke down as DH was trying to ride so i had to get get him a FP.

Yesterday (Fri) EE was much, much lighter. DS and I were first on Luigi's which was fun because the CMs stand around "washing" the windows first thing in the morning. Then when the first guests walk up they make an arch with their squigies to welcome you. The area was so quiet we had a Photopass guy following our family around to get pictures in 3 different areas.
