Two Castaways: WDW+DCL = Dream Vacation! August 17-26, 2012 TR Updated 9/4

We decided to walk around and get acquainted with the ship. We checked out all of the pools and went to see the Aquaduck! Next we took a tour of the spa because we had pre-purchased Rainforest Room day passes before we left! The spa is HUGE, just so you know! It is definitely worth taking a tour of and we didn't feel too pressured into getting a treatment or anything. But technically we were already coming back so we did have that as an excuse! :rotfl2: After turning in our entries to the spa raffle, we walked down to the District! We met Ludo and Eduardo for in 687 and the District Lounge! Ludo offered Jeremy a sample of the 687 Beer which is made in Portland, Oregon! He really enjoyed it so I am sure that at some point we are gonna be back down here to get him a full size one! We have a DIS Meet-up at 3:15, so I am sure he will get one while we are waiting for everyone down there! By that time our room was ready, when we got there Jeremy's suitcase had already arrived!

_MG_6944.jpg

When I originally booked our trip in June, I booked and IGT rate. I know you are thinking, that isn't an interior room! When our room was assigned to us, not only had we been upgraded to an Exterior room, but we had been upgraded to a Deluxe Family Oceanview Room Cat. 8C, which meant we had a huge split bathroom with round tub/shower, a lot more space that we thought we were going to have, and a giant porthole window seat! I was pretty shocked when we were given that room, but very thankful, the only thing that disappointed me for a moment, was that we were not going to have the Magical Porthole, but oh well, I'm sure I will go on another cruise and get one sooner or later! So in the room already we had our Castaway Club gift, dinner tickets, "excursion" tickets, which I will go into more detail about the day of, and our Rainforest Room Passes!

_MG_6945.jpg

The first thing I always have to do when I get into my room is hang up my Fish Extender and put the magnets on our door! I didn't take any magnet photos this time because the door is exactly the same as in my other TR, but if you would like to see a photo of the other door, I will gladly put on here for you to see!

_MG_6950.jpg

Jeremy went ahead and unpacked his things, and after that we made our way back down to 687 for him to get a beer and wait on the others for the Meet-Up! We got down there by 2:35 I think. Ludo was still in there and Jeremy went ahead and did the souvenir glass route, which meant to me that we were going to be in there quite a lot in the next 5 days! Jeremy did want me to tell everyone that he highly recommends trying the 687 Beer! I got my beverage of choice (ice water) and they also gave us some peanuts while were were waiting!

_MG_6951.jpg

At 3:00 Jeremy walked back over and up to the spa for the raffle, he really wanted to win so he could get some kind of treatment! I did bring Birthday/Anniversary gifts for a few different people just in case they showed up to the Meet! It was a pretty goof turn out for the Meet! It was and always is fun putting faces with names. Jeremy came back, but sadly didn't win anything from the spa raffle, and at 3:45 we walked over to Muster Station A, which was the balcony of the Walt Disney Theater. It was cool because one of the Meet families was in our same muster station! by 4:15 we were finished with the drill and made our way up to Deck 12 to get a view of the Sail Away Party! Jeremy was excited because he could see the Kennedy Space Center in the distance! I just wanted to hear the horn! One thing we noticed is, if this is a half full ship, which we had heard was true, then we would hate to see a full ship! So anyway, the Sail Away party on the Dream was pretty different than the one on the Wonder. The Dream's was more of a musical performance than a party. Then all of the sudden, the horn blew signaling that we were sailing away. It was a lot shorter than the Wonder's and there wasn't even any buildup to the horn, which I was hoping for! Pretty much, it came, happened, and was over. On a funny little note, as we were leaving port the Carnival Sensation decided to start up a little horn battle with us...and sadly enough for them, they lost almost instantly!

We went back to the stateroom and my luggage had arrived, so I went ahead and unpacked all of my stuff. Because of what I had made for my FE gifts this time around, I really wanted to deliver them early so that they would get used if they families decided to use them. I made coaster sets for the dad's/older males, trip journals for the ladies, autograph books for the kids, water bottles for the teens/young adults, abc books for the 2 and under, and one color book for an under 1 year old, and when I say color book, I mean a flip book with colors in there in the shape of mickey heads!

_MG_6954.jpg

The first two cabins we went to, people kept popping in and out, so we kept thinking that we were going to get caught. The majority of people had early dining, so we wanted to get all of the them delivered before they got out. We also wanted to make it to the Villains Tonight Show at 6:15! We did make it and sat in the balcony! I have heard such horrible reviews for this show, and lots of people really don't like it at all. But Jeremy and I actually really enjoyed it! I guess it might not be for everyone, but I would even go see it again, if I had the chance! After the show was over, we went around and made some more FE deliveries before dinner. Dinner on our first night was in Enchanted Garden! Sadly...I forgot to bring my camera this first night, but don't worry, I did remember every other night! I really think that this is a beautiful restaurant! We were seated at a table for 8 and were the first to arrive! After everyone had gotten here, there were only 6 of us! One newlywed couple who had just gotten married the night before, one couple who had been married for about 8 months, and Jeremy and I, at 5 years...the old married couple...ROFL:lmao: For dinner this evening I had the Lobster Ravioli as an appetizer, asparagus soup, and for my entree I had the Sea Bass. Dessert was a Bananas Foster Sundae. Jeremy also had the Lobster Ravioli, a romaine wedge salad, prime rib, and the Bananas Foster Sundae! It was a good meal and I didn't have any complaints! We met our servers Robert from Ukraine, and Rezaan (Rezzan) sp? from South Africa! We didn't see our head server tonight though, I wonder when that will happen? After dinner Jeremy needed to go back to the room to change into shorts because we were going to go down to see Match Your Mate in Evolution, which was good for me because I had time to catch up on TR notes!

Match Your Mate was fantastic, as usual! it might not have beaten our first DCL cruise experience with it, but it was great nonetheless! We stopped by 687 before we went over there for Jeremy to have himself another beer. We also met Abie, another CM we would get to know over the next few days! Oh, I forgot to mention this! When we were on our way inside Evolution, a girl stopped me and asked if I was on the DIS boards! She said she had seen my Alaska video and ready my TR! That made my night! It was so fun being recognized like that, it really makes me happy to know that people enjoyed that Trip Report so much! So anyway, now it was time to head back to the room for bed! Castaway Cay Day number 1 is tomorrow, and I am totally psyched about that!! We had an adorable little Sea Lion? towel animal on our bed, as well as that lovely Disney chocolate I hoard in my purse for later ;)

You are off to a great start! This is a great way to pass the time until my cruise!

Yes! Glad you are back (although, I'm sure you'd prefer to still be on vacation) and already off to a great start on your trip report!! I hope you guys had a fantastic time!
I really enjoyed reading your Alaska TR and now have THIS TR to look forward to. Can't wait to read more!!

Just wanted to send out a quick note to you guys, I had to make a quick trip to NYC Thursday afternoon but am on my way back so the TR will continue tomorrow along with catching up on comments! Thanks so much!!

I woke up at 7:08 from the sun rising in through the porthole. Just in time to see the front side of Castaway Cay before we docked. Jeremy was still sleeping so I took the opportunity to get ready. We chose to try Enchanted Garden for breakfast this morning, it didn't open until 8:00am, so we had about 15 minutes to spare before we went to breakfast!

_MG_6961.jpg

The buffet breakfast was just what we needed and we were in and out before Clayton did the announcement for all ashore on Castaway Cay. We made a quick pit stop back by the room to grab the GoPro and then we were off! We wanted to stop by the post office, but it hadn't opened yet when we went by there. As we continued to walk the Photographers were out taking photos of everyone in front of the ship! There weren't that many people out though, I mean pretty empty actually, I assumed lots of people would be scrambling to get off, but there wasn't even a line or anything...anywhere! The photo we got taken in front of the ship at CC was the only other photo we purchased from this entire cruise, so we didn't get a package or anything like that. I did like the photo though and wanted it since it was our very first time there!

CastawayCayPhoto.jpg

We kept walking and it was so beautiful there! The weather was fantastic! I really didn't think we could have gotten a better day at CC! The water is so clear and blue and the island is so clean!! Disney did a great job when they found this place! I took a few photos before we got on the tram

_MG_6963.jpg

We got off the tram at Scuttles Cove, the first tram stop. I wanted to look and see if I could find a sun hat that I liked because I forgot to get one before we left for the trip. Unfortunately I did not find one, but we did get the opportunity to get a picture of Jeremy with Mt. Rustmore...I didn't realize that it was such a small area, I mean you almost walk past it if you are not paying attention. It looks so large in the photo, but it felt much smaller than it actually looks!

_MG_6966.jpg

We kept walking over toward Pelican Point tram stop and made a bathroom stop before we got on the tram to Serenity Bay. It was a gorgeous sight when we got there, the beach and area was almost completely empty and with a bright blue sky, we found some chairs plunked our stuff down, loaded me up with sunscreen from head to toe and headed into the water! We stayed out there for a good hour and then came back and laid in a hammock next to our chairs for a nice rest!

_MG_6970.jpg

After we were dry we headed back in, and before anyone says anything about taking up chairs and not using them...there were at least 100 EMPTY ones, so it wasn't like we were hoarding a beach chair or anything. There were only 6 hammocks I think, 8 max, but I'll get into that later...

We saw some fish swimming around our feet while we were in the water wading around and we even saw a stingray hanging out making it's rounds, we stayed in the water until our fingers started getting prune and hung out in the lounge chairs until 11:30. At which time we made our way over to the BBQ on Serenity Bay. On our way over there we saw our table mates and then another family from our FE group! The food at the BBQ was really good!

_MG_6976.jpg

I really liked the banana ice cream and cookies they had for dessert! We...well, I really wanted to try a Konk Kooler because I had heard so much about them. So we went over to the bar for a bit. Jeremy had a beer and I a Konk Kooler. I thought it was o.k., I mean it was nothing to write home about like I had heard from everyone else. I dunno, it could have just been the bartender that made it for me. While we were sitting at the bar Jeremy starting looking at the bar top. If you are ever there, look at it! You'll notice that there are gold doubloon coins sealed into the bar. Back story...Jeremy's dad gave him a "pirate coin" before he passed away that he had for a long time, Jeremy keeps it in his wallet at all times and had it with us on CC. There was an exact matching coin inside the bar as the one in his wallet, he was so surprised to see something like that, it was such an unexpected "magical" Disney moment too. It was awesome! So with drinks in hand, back to our lounge chairs we went. Jeremy finished his drink and went straight back in the water, I took the time to sip my drink, catch up on TR notes, reapply sunscreen all over, and take a picture of Jeremy in that gorgeous clear blue water!

Awesome and Thank You!! I have a really long time until my next cruise, but this will help me pass the time until at least my WDW Birthday trip in October!! I know you will have a great time on your cruise!

When is your birthday? I'm celebrating my birthday early on the cruise and then later on the F&W trip. :) It didn't work out to be at WDW or the cruise on my actual birthday.

My birthday is October 12th, I will be at WDW from the 10th-17th of October :woohoo:pixiedust:

When I had finished my drink, TR Notes, and sunscreen reapplication, I returned to the water with Jeremy! Again we stayed until we were pruny and then went and took naps in the lounge chairs. At about 15 till 3:00, Jeremy woke up and said, "I'm hot!" and then went back into the water. I decided to just stay dry this time. When he came out of the water that last time we decided we would head back to the ship to hang out at the pool area for a while. We were hoping that maybe toward early seating people will head to dinner and the Golden Mickey's so we can try out the Aquaduck for the first time. We grabbed us some seats at the Quiet Cove with a view of Castaway Cay!

_MG_6980.jpg

About that time we started getting a little snacky, so we grabbed some pizza to tide us over until dinner time. I was getting a little hot after we ate, so we decided to come back to the room. When we got to the room, I found out why I was so hot! Even though I had continuously put on SPF 70+ sunscreen on every single time I got out of the water from head to toe, I still managed to get burnt! Luckily it was only my upper chest/shoulders, so somehow we must have missed there??

_MG_6985.jpg

I am really fair-skinned, so it actually looks worse than it was. At 5:30 when the shops opened, Jeremy went down and got some solarcaine with aloe to spray on ourselves while I took a shower and had to REdecide what to wear to dinner because of my ridiculous sunburn! At 6:30 we made our way out to 687, on our way down there we stopped to get a picture of Jeremy with Donald, since he was in his semi-formal attire....Jeremy I mean!

_MG_6989.jpg

When we made it to 687, Jeremy got himself a beer and we hung out for the 90's music trivia! We ended up with 43 out of 50 points but still lost because someone had a perfect score. After the trivia was over it was time for dinner in Royal Palace! For appetizers I had the escargots, and Jeremy the shrimp & lobster!

_MG_6993.jpg

_MG_6994.jpg

For our next course, we both had the Green Salad with Goat Cheese I believe

_MG_6997.jpg

For our main course we both had the tenderloin, I should have ordered it to be cooked other than medium though, because it was pretty well done once it reached the table. Next time I get steak, I will order it Medium Rare, then it should come out the way I like it...

_MG_6998.jpg

For our desserts I had the Creme Brûlée, and Jeremy had the Peanut Butter Mousse which looked more like some type of chocolate dessert to my eyes??

_MG_7000.jpg

_MG_7001.jpg

When dinner was over, our servers, Robert & Rezzan, showed us some fun magic tricks and then we all parted ways. Jeremy and I headed back to the room to look over tomorrow's Navigator and get some sleep! We have Nassau tomorrow and hopefully some Rainforest Room relaxation! When we got back we were greeted by another little towel animal, apparently, they all really love sunglasses!!

Thank you, I love reading detailed reports, so I though why not make mine like the ones I like to read!! You are most welcome, I totally enjoy writing them! I would be so antsy until July comes! Thank you so much for reading along! :goodvibes

Great update. I can not wait to step off onto Castaway Cay!! It looks awesome!

I can't wait to go back someday!! It was amazing!! Too bad they are not doing the Double Dips anymore :(

Another great installment! I also read your whole Alaska TR yest- wow. I am anxious for you to compare the two experiences.

Wow you read the whole thing yesterday!!! Kudos to you! That thing is loooong!!...LOL I hope you liked it! I will definitely compare the two experiences at the end, because they were pretty much completely on the opposite spectrum of cruise vacations!

When we made it to 687, Jeremy got himself a beer and we hung out for the 90's music trivia! We ended up with 43 out of 50 points but still lost because someone had a perfect score. After the trivia was over it was time for dinner in Royal Palace!

We were there too and thought we did well. We actually did well in all the trivia games but there was always some doing better. My wife and I really enjoyed them. I especially like listening to Maxx doing movie quotes in his Scottish accent. We had the same dinner rotation as you but main dining so we were usually in 687 after dinner and before the show.

How funny! We did almost all of the trivia games that were in 687, and had a blast with Maxx, he was great! Even though we didn't win any of them we still had a lot of fun doing it!

We woke up this morning as we were docking in Nassau. However, we were not planning on getting off the ship at all! This morning we want to try out Royal Palace for breakfast because I want to try food in all of the available places, which means we are going somewhere different every day. Now to get dressed so we can go! We made our way down to Royal Palace and went inside via the back entrance because the front was blocked off for a Princess gathering! I think I had Eggs Benedict for breakfast this morning if I am not mistaken, I didn't write down any notes about Royal Palace so I am kind of just going from memory here. I really don't know what Jeremy had, but I feel like it was some sort of breakfast trio, like a waffle, pancake, and french toast?? Who knows, but anyway, the one thing I DO remember from breakfast was that there was a big group of people sitting behind Jeremy and in front of me. There is a box that they bring around if you want tea so you can choose which tea you would like from it. Well A lady at that table, maybe had never had tea before, who knows, she had to get someone else to choose it for her, then when they brought the water for it and she opened the packet, she tore straight through and dumped all of the tea into her Eggs Benedict!! The servers looked a little aggravated about it, because she had her fork and stuff in her hands and the female server just took them from her put them in the plate and picked the plate up from the lady, so she had to sit there and watch everyone else eat while they were getting her another dish. I guess that was the most eventful thing that happened at Royal Palace this morning, at least I thought it was amusing!

We headed back to the room to change into our bathing suits and headed for the Aquaduck! It was cloudy outside, but definitely still warm. We stashed our stuff on a deck chair on the upper deck, not near the pool...(there were PLENTY open, so again we weren't taking up space someone else could use). This early in the morning the wait time was only about 10 minutes which was fine with me, considering I had seen how long the lines were the rest of the entire trip! We ended up riding it twice, and for a slide on a cruise ship, I was pretty darn impressed!! After we rode it we walked over to the Adult Pool to get something to drink and dry off a little before heading over to the spa and the Rainforest Room!

Sorry I didn't have my camera for any of this morning stuff, I didn't really feel like taking it into the spa, seemed a little inappropriate...well for me anyway, I wouldn't want someone taking photos while I was in there relaxing, so I used the same courtesy for everyone else. So just in case you don't know how the Rainforest Room at Senses Spa works, I will tell you! Jeremy and I had pre-purchased 2 one day passes by calling DCL before we left on the cruise. When we got on the ship our passes were waiting for us in the room. We walked into the spa and were given a robe and key bracelet which lets you into the Rainforest Room. Once you get inside you have 3 Saunas, 3 Showers, and a cool mist shower. Each shower has 3 different experiences within it. So first we alternated between sauna and shower until we had done all of them. Next we moved onto the open air hot tub and stayed in there for about 15 minutes, then onto the heated tile loungers! We enjoyed the experience very much! I would say that there were maybe 6-8 other people in there at the same time as we were, but we never had to wait for a sauna, shower, hot tub, or tile lounger, so it was hardly crowded at all! We left the spa and made it back to the room by 12:50 and ordered some room service! We got a cheese plate, sandwich, wings, oatmeal cookies, and a mickey bar of course! Room service arrived to our room with the food at about 1:30. We ate and it was really good! After we finished, I started feeling a little yucky, so I took a shower and then a nap while Jeremy read on of his books. I stayed asleep until 4:45!!! So I got up got dressed for the evenings festivities. We were getting ready to walk out the door and I couldn't find my key anywhere! We looked in the bathrooms, on the desks, inside clothing, literally everywhere in the stateroom. I knew it was in there somewhere because I am the one who opened the door with it when we came back to the room! I did remember not putting it in the holder at the door because Jeremy put his in there first! Then I asked Jeremy if he happened to take it with him when he went to get drinks earlier and sure enough it was in his darn pocket!!

_MG_7004.jpg

We left the room and headed to Deck 5 Midship to play the Midship Detective Agency! We chose the case of the missing paintings! It was really fun and a little reminiscent of SOTMK at Magic Kingdom. It was cool too because you pretty much got a tour of the ship while you were doing, and definitely a workout going up and down stairs and walking all over! We ended up outside right about the time when All Aboard was, and we were watching the crew members of the Carnival ship, the was a whole back deck full of them and they were all just smoking away! We never got a chance to play shuffleboard on the Wonder so we knew we definitely wanted to do it on the Dream!

_MG_7008.jpg

I do remember that Jeremy was sad because I beat him 3 times. We started pulling away and it was really lovely just to be out there on the deck in the breeze. The sun hadn't set yet, but it was starting to cast on the water and so Jeremy wanted to take a photo of me, since we never really get any of those...

_MG_7011.jpg

When we were done we headed down to where else but 687. Abie and Ludo, our new favorite Beverage Services CMs taught us the rules of Cricket. It was pretty cool to learn. When the Cricket Match? Game? was over, it was time for the 70s Music Trivia. I was so proud of us that we managed to get 22 points, considering both of us are children of the 80's, I thought that was pretty darn good! Jeremy finished up his beer and it was time for us to head to the room for Jeremy to change for dinner, we did manage to get a silly photo of him before we got there though!

_MG_7012.jpg

Tonight, dinner was in Animator's Palette, it was so cool how Crush would come and interact with the tables! I thought it was a blast in there! I had the Truffle Pasta Pouches, Baked Potato Soup, and Black bean Cakes for dinner...

_MG_7013.jpg

_MG_7015.jpg

Jeremy had the same soup, no appetizer, then for his main course he got the lemon-marinated chicken. He thought it was great! He very much enjoyed it! For dessert he had the chocolate cake of course, and I had the walnut cake, which FYI, is WAY more chocolate than walnut! When dinner was over, I wasn't feeling too well, so we stopped by the store and picked up some Contac for tomorrow. I had some Nyquil which was what I took right before going to bed. Tomorrow is our real Day At Sea and Pirate Night! We are very much looking forward to wearing our costumes and seeing the fireworks! So I guess I will leave you with our little towel doggie, too bad we didn't name him! But look, he likes sunglasses too, it must be bright inside these staterooms!!
