So here's the story. I had a vacation booked for August 25th weekend and was planning to propose to my girlfriend during dinner at Narcoossee's (fireworks time slot). However my mother ended up being in the hospital due to some serious complications from surgery and I had to postpone the trip. Now I have it rescheduled for the weekend of September 29th, and plan on enjoying Epcot's Food and Wine Festival. Needless to say I can't seem to get the same sort of ADR on this short notice it seems. After talking myself out of some other ideas and being really excited about doing it at Narcoossee's, I'm now somewhat at a loss for ideas.
Do you think I could work something out by calling the restaurant? And does anyone have any other ideas more in the Epcot realm since we'll be spending most of our time there now? She has specifically said she wouldn't want it to be something too big and public.

If this is the wrong section please redirect me. Thanks in advance!

Victoria & Albert's has a 9:00 PM opening on Sept 29th. And congratulations on your upcoming engagement!!!!!

Thanks for the idea Mrs. Ciz, although I think Victoria and Albert's will be a little bit outside of my price range. I'm a college student and the unexpected trip to cleveland for the past few weeks ate a pretty decent hole in my budget.

Since you'll be at Epcot, what about the San Angel Inn? It looks very romantic, starry sky and all. It's better on the wallet too.

Sending prayers for your mom's recovery as well.

What about going over to the Polynesian beach and watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks from there? I'm picturing the whole down on one knee in the sand, explosions over head, romance in the air type of thing.

Regardless, congratulations and welcome to the DIS!

The beach at the Polynesian was one of my first ideas, and it's my backup right now. Maybe dinner at Kona, then grab some drinks and see if we can take them down to the beach? That could work.

An early congratulations to you and your soon-to-be!!

The Poly beach is a great idea! If you walk down the beach a bit (away from the marina side) you will find the fireworks crowd thins out a bit.

In regards to the reservations, continue to try and call because something could very well open up. San Angel Inn could be very romantic, the tables are just on top of one another there.

If you'd like more suggestions, would be happy to give you some!!

How about renting one of the boats and doing it out in the water? Maybe even on an Illuminations Cruise?

There are so many nice restaurants in Epcot, I think any of them would likely be terrific--Le Cellier, Coral Reef, Tutto Italia, or Bistro de Paris. Does she have a favorite country or place she has always wanted to visit? It would be kind of romantic to propose in Italy or France and then make a promise to visit the real place on your honeymoon or wedding anniversary.

op i think you have the right idea. what a wonderful surprise! just brings tears to my eyes, how romantic :cloud9: wish you all the best!

Ooohhh, the beach at the Poly during fireworks would be AMAZING. Or at sunset! Or in front of the castle after the crowds are gone right after the park closes. Or go in front of the castle for a "pic" and give your camera to the photo pass guy and let him in on the secret, then he'll be able to take some awesome shots of it for you (may be a little more public than what she would want, but think of the PICTURES you would have! ) Down by the water at Downtown Disney.

BUT....

Honestly, you're going to be at the most magical place on earth- you really can't go wrong! Most girls don't care about the WHERE as much as what you SAY! Good luck with your plans- don't stress it too much!

PS- I'll be there that day too, so if I see someone popping the question, I'll just assume its you lol. Good luck!

Ok, here's what I think the final plan will be:
Spend day 1 at MK, go to the GF around 5:00 and grab some drinks, visit the beach and propose there. Then proceed to a 5:50 reservation at Citrico's and be back in time to see wishes, or watch from the beach right there. Then spend day 2 at food and wine festival.
Thanks for the ideas everyone!

I thought of another question for you experts, but didn't think it warranted a new thread. If was going to pop the question at one of the resorts, who could I talk to about having someone there to take a few candid photos as it happens? Photopass? Are there any other options besides an outside professional?

Tutto Italia in Epcot is romantic as is La Hacienda.

Ditto! Of course, I don't know your girlfriend, (and I know there are girls into the $50,000 weddings and all that go with them)...but I am on 16 years of marriage from my "cheap" disney wedding and really not about the location or money.

Do you have a favortie spot? I love the wedding gazebo at the Yatcht Club. The rose garden in Epcot's England is beautiful and seldom crowded. How about under the bridge on the walkway to Beachclub (looking into France)?
Lots of great locations!

Those are some great ideas. We're going to DTD today (we only live an hour away), maybe I'll subtely scope out some of these spots while we're in the area. I've never been to Beach Club or Yacht Club, maybe that would make for a convenient excuse lol.

I love the idea of proposing on the Poly beach right before fireworks!!

Another idea - if you get an ADR for CRT or CP pre-park opening you could get in the park when there's hardly anyone there. Then you could propose right in front of the castle with hardly anyone around. Then maybe you could call the restaurant in advance and they could preapre something with the characters?? But the downside to this is you don't get the romance of the evening with just the two of you together because you'd be proposing in the morning and then spending all day in the park...

Keep checking for Narcoose's and then you can stick to your original plan!

Whatever you choose post pics!! It will be fabulous no matter what!
