Has anyone else notice a big increase in SWA fares? According to SWA's new flight schedule, direct flight from Albany NY to MCO went from $172 to $273???? WOW!!!

Prices have gone up steadily, but unless you are comparing the same flight on the same day year over year that specific a comparison is not really all that useful.

Just booked flight for 3/5/13 - $172 - return flight (just released) 3/12/13 - $273!

There is no rhyme or reason to plane fares. For my trip the end of September the current fare from Chicago to MCO is $77. It was close to $200 when I booked it several months ago.

The funny thing about it I can go from Albany/Baltimore/MCO for $183! Direct flights were always cheaper. $77 is great price. I remember getting Albany to MCO FOR $49! Those were the days!

Yes, I remember the first 3 or 4 trips to MCO paying $59, and thinking $79 was high. We gave up and started driving to WDW the last 4 years. Nice to have my van there too.

I remember $38 round trips from STL to Chicago, but am not thinking those will return.

I agree. the prices are very high! More than I am prepared to pay. I should have booked when they were first released, but I waited an hour, debating, and watched them climb in that short time. What a dumbie!!

Anyway, does anyone think there will be a sale on spring break fares? Doubtful, huh?

Can't find any fares I'm willing to pay---but don't want to drive so I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy them anyway. I want a non-stop from Raleigh to MCO in December. Flying in the day before our cruise and back the day the cruise ends. Need Dec 14-22 for 7. :scared1: :scared1:

Fares seem higher then I've paid in years! Usually December is just DD and I for a few days at WDW, but this year it is the whole family. Wanted to eat at O'hana then go to MVMCP the night before the cruise, but with airfare like it is, we might just have to skip the "extras" this year.

Until recently, I hadn't flown in some years. Then I went to the World last month and am now planning a return trip.

DBF and I paid just over $1000 fo our RT LAX to MCO on Southwest. We bought the tickets about 2 months out. At the time I was pretty sure I was paying a ridiculous rate but had no choice; No one else was much cheaper then and I didn't want to risk paying more later, plus I'm a bit of a flying-phobe and pefer Southwest for their safety record.

Now that I'm pricing for our next trip, I DO know we paid a lot but that, thankfully, we shouldn't pay anywhere close to that this time. Fares aren't out for our exact dates yet, but in pricing out the same Tues-Tues schedule for the weeks before our dates, it is likely that we won't pay more than $600 RT for the 2 of us when fares come out in October.

Coming from Los Angeles, we have no choice but to fly and non-stop fares are insane from every carrier. I know my mom always has good luck getting Delta fares semi-last minute but I just prefer SW. :)

I don't know why so many people think WN always has the best prices. You can often do better on other airlines.

Very true. In our case, however, SWA is the only carrier offering non-stop service and any savings with going on another carrier are offset for us by the additional time required for the trip and the inconvenience.

If I save $100 per ticket RT on another airline, $50 of it goes to baggage fees, and then the decision is if saving $50 is worth adding four hours (give or take) to our travel each way and the increased risk of flight delays, lost baggage, etc. that come with flying on connecting flights vs. non stop..

ALB to MCO has really gone up in price over the last few years. If you are south of Albany, you might want to check out Jetblue out of Stewart Airport in Newburgh, (SWF).

Not to hijack the thread, but....

bought our "going there" tickets on SWA for end of Nov. Coming back, fares are $30 higher per ticket....is there a chance they will go down, or should I just suck it up now?

This will be my first time flying SWA but as Jestocost says, it's the only non stop from STL to MCO (hi, neighbor across the river). I know, $120 total isn't that big of a deal but when you add in airfare, tickets, condo, rental car, blah blah, I just want to save if I can.

And I used to fly Air Tran from Virginia to MCO for like $59 and that was awesome! These tickets, RT, are going to cost over $300 a piece.....and the flight time is the same!

There is always a chance. I leave in three weeks and the fares are the lowest I've seen them. Rebooked and saved about 7,000 points. That's the beauty of Southwest. No change fees.

I booked ALB to MCO 3 weeks ago for $209 round trip and now those same flights are $343. The prices seem to go up and down all the time. Last year we booked a flight to Vegas and then the price dropped $80. SW gave us credits that we could use on these tickets. It works out if you are taking a second trip before a year is up.

I remember 1 where we paid $49 Albany to MCO & there were 7 people on the flight!! I REALLY miss those days on SW!

It's possible, but I would just book it personally.

I do know they might go down, I just booked a last minute trip to NY where the price was originally $400+, and I refreshed the page and it was $170!!! My mom logged on not ten seconds after and that price was gone already.

So it's always possible, but I wouldn't count on it.

for the credit, is it a year (365 days) from the flight, or before December 31st?
