Early June or Mid August 2013?

I and my mom am currently in the process of mapping out the basic framework of our next Disney trip for 2013. Due to my school obligations and requests from my sisters' special education teams pertaining to not missing any school what-so-ever, my family can only go during the summer.

We did do late August (20th to 27th) on our 2011 trip, but we are concerned that, because we did start early this year (August 23rd), we will miss a few days of school if we chose this option. Because of this, we are considering doing a mid-August trip, but we are second guessing this option because of crowds and the insane heat we dealt with on our last trip.

School ends for us on June 5th, so we are considering going as soon as my finals end (possibly the 3rd/4th of June) or within a few days of school ending.

The dates for the 2013-2014 school year do not come out until February for us, but we want to have the trip booked and ADR's made by then.

If anyone has gone to Disney during those times, can you please tell me which one you prefer, how bad the crowds are, and how intense the heat is?

PS: My birthday is June 16, so I am personally leaning more towards that date (I want to wear that birthday button! :D), but my mom wants to see a few personal opinions.

Dates of consideration:
June 6 until June 13/14.
August 13-20

I was just there Aug 16- 25th- heat was no different than when we went in May 2 years before - its always hot- so there makes no difference.

Crowds? Aug was awesome. We never waited more than 20 mins. for anything other than Soarin and that was because we went at night and they were out of FP. Soarin was also more crowded than normal because TT is down.

Never went in June so cant help there. I would def do August again

I went in June once. I swear to you it was like walking around inside an oven!! It was SO stinking HOT. I thought August was bad. Not even close. Of course I am sure many have had the opposite experience, but for my husband and myself we decided that we would NEVER ever do June again. The August crowds and the heat are toned way down in our experience. Don't get me wrong, it is plenty hot in August and rainy and hurricanes are always threatening...but that June heat was unbearable.

August would be my pick over and over!

I just wanted to add though, that while some days we were happy with how low the crowd levels were, there were a couple of Magic Kingdom days that felt like were there on Christmas Day...MASSIVE wall to wall crowds. I was astonished at how crowded it was. The next day would be the exact opposite. It was odd...but the crowds those two days were unreal.

We have been several times end of May 28-June 20 dates over several years. We enjoy this time of year. We have always had a good time. We also have to go at these times because of school obligations & High School Marching Band Obligations. 2013 we have to move our trip to the last 2 weeks of June for the same reason. We are excited.

Bump! We're leaning a bit more towards June, but we still want to know how bad the crowds are.

It's pretty hot (and humid) in June, but the crowds aren't quite as bad as July and early August.

June is Gay Pride month. The first week in June has become the unofficial Gay Days week at Disney, and all the parks are inundated with LGBT guests from around the globe. This adds a huge surge to the already busy vacation period, so you will be better waiting for mid June if you wand to avoid the Gay Days crowds :)

We have been twice in June and we loved it both times. It was crowded but not as bad as Spring Break. We just did rope drop and left the parks after lunch to hit the pool and then went back out at night to see fireworks, etc. I would go in June again, definitely. But ..... we live in SC, so we are used to the heat.

Don't worry about Gay Days in WDW. We have visited twice during this event and it was really a non issue. Each day has a designated park and by Sunday the entire event is over. If you have children you are not ready to have the LGBT discussion with just visit a park they are not. We love the first couple of weeks of June.

Gay Days has never been an issue at WDW. There is absolutely nothing wrong with visiting during this time other than the inflated crowds.

I just checked the G&L At Disney forum, and Gay-day Weekend is May 30th to June 2nd, and my mom and I already ruled out that week because of my finals.

I like to go on vacation First week or two of June. I'm ready by then to go! I have been on several vacations first week in June. I find the temperature a little cooler than other times we have went over July 4th. Sometimes a little cool spell happens that first week in June. As far as rain , no matter when we go it rains but it does seem to rain more in June when we have been in July. We have been there over gay week. I didn't know it or that there was such a week at Walt Disney World untill I heard it on TV one evening after returning to our room from Magic Kingdom one year. The only time a crowd has really bothered me was going to Magic Kingdom over July 4, 2011. We should have stayed at the hotel and enjoyed the pool that day! LOL!

What about Star Wars Weekend? Isn't that usually the first couple of weeks in June? How does that affect the crowds? I'm guessing it's pretty crazy. But then, we went to Cars Land opening week, that was something!
