Ginger & Tim 10-30-12 CC/SCP; Update--1/2:TR Day 1: Checking into the CS

Oh. My. Gosh. GINGER! Your photos are gorgeous! You both look so wonderful! I really wish I'd had the chance to have a proper engagement shoot, but my agreement with my photographer to do my wedding cruise for free (for just the cost of her cruise) was to pass on the engagement session. I should've looked into it anyways, but I guess it's a little late for that with only 16 days till embarkation! I look forward to seeing more, especially these picnic photos you speak of!

Thanks so much, Jillian!! That's so nice of you to say. We're very excited to see the rest of them, but I expect it may take the photographer a bit to go through them all... Crossing my fingers for within the next month! For our guestbook, I'm leaning toward making a poster using one of our engagement photos, so I'd really like to have them back before I need to order that.

I didn't expect to have an engagement session either. When I was negotiating the package, I thought it was just for cruise day photography. You can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I met with Jess, and she wanted to know my ideas for the engagement session :)

Maybe you can do a one year anniversary session instead? That seems to be popular with a lot of brides. Especially doing a MK shoot. That could be really fun, and you could get some of those really beautiful castle shots. I've toyed with that idea also... Maybe I can brainwash Timmy into the idea before next year :lmao:

Your pictures are beautiful! Can't wait to see the rest!!

Thanks so much, Lisa! :goodvibes I'll be sure and post more when they arrive. How is newlywed life treating you??

Ginger,

Happy belated birthday!! Your photos came out great. Love them!

Thanks so much, Jodi (did I get the right name from your signature?)!! I appreciate the birthday wishes and the photo compliments! :) We were pleasantly surprised with how well they turned out (I had no doubts in Jess' ability, but usually Timmy & I look a bit goofy in photos together), and are really excited to see the rest!

Hip Hip Hooray!! Planning Guide is done!! :woohoo:

When I first received the planning guide from Shanda last year, I would look at it with glee, and think "how exciting/fun will this be to fill out." Maybe I left it too late or maybe the wedding stress is starting to set in, but fun would not exactly be the word I would choose to describe the experience... :badpc: :crazy2:
Haha... Finally got it done though, and only one day late. I know... I'm a naughty DCL bride. To my credit, I did request a formal extension. Not sure why, but I just had a terrible time selecting songs.

Anyways, without further ado, here is an abbreviated version of our planning guide info:
-Guests: 35 (including bride & groom) + 1 child under 3 (the ringbearer; he's sooo cute!)
-Photographer: External
-Officiant: External
-Floral: Oceanfront elegance bouquet with matching calla lily & hydrangea boutonniere
-No additional floral (really wanted rose petals for the aisle, but the ever-inflating budget forced me to resist)
-Bridal Party: 1 MOH, 1 Bridesmaid, 1 Best Man, 1 Groomsman & 1 Ring bearer
-Songs:
  1. Prelude: "Your Song" Vitamin String Quartet
  2. Parents/Bridesmaid Processional: "Love Story" Vitamin String Quartet
  3. Bridal Processional: "Prime Minister's Love Theme" from Love Actually
  4. Recessional: "Dela" Johnny Clegg (in the George of the Jungle movie)
  5. Cake Cutting: "Wonderful World" Sam Cooke
  6. First Dance: Custom Mix (we have a couple different songs, so we're going to mix those together)
  7. Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dance: Mix of "These are the Days" Van Morrison & "Never Alone" Jim Brickman
  8. Additional Songs: Pianist's choice (I was too indecesive on this, so I'll just let the pianist have free-reign)
-Cake: Touch of Romance Design with a custom cake topper (will be designed this month, so stay tuned for more on this). Top tier will be vanilla with white chocolate mousse and bottom tier will be marble with raspberry butter cream
-Forfeiting the Palo credit (unfortunately) and dining at Remy's instead the night before the wedding. I really wish DCL would let us apply the Palo credit to a brunch...

So yay! I guess that's our wedding in a nutshell ;)

I also have a bit of an update on the wedding band situation. I spoke to the jeweler at Brilliant Earth, and she informed me that a diamond would need to be taken out of the pave band in order to accommodate the small notch. She said a smaller diamond could be placed in the space, but I was concerned this might look funny. So it looks like, I'll be going with the matching platinum knife edge band. I think the plain band will just carry the notch better overall. I'm a bit disappointed that I don't have more choices, but I'm consoling myself with the fact that maybe I can get a separate diamond or diamond/sapphire band later on to add (and just not worry about it sitting flush) or wear separately. They're designing the ring this week, and should have a CAD image for me soon hopefully.

Moving/Driving out to Houston tomorrow!! The time is finally here! Unfortunately, Isaac is right in my driving path, but I can't really delay the trip as we have tickets to the Alabama/Michigan game this weekend. I'm planning to take a more northern route through MS and LA, and just hoping the weather isn't too bad. I guess if it's awful, I can always just stop and stay somewhere overnight. Will update again next week! :goodvibes

Congrats on getting everything submitted! Mine was a little late too, I'd completely forgotten about the deadline until Meredith e-mailed me a "friendly" reminder! But everything got submitted and finalized, so no worries! I'm sorry the songs gave you a lot of troubles, I struggled with mine too (although, as anybody can notice, there's a prevalent "Disney" theme to my tunes!) I carried around papers and papers of alternate "playlists" agonizing over the different choices! BUT it's done! Huzzah! Time to celebrate!

I did Touch of Character cake with white cake both layers, the top filled with milk chocolate caramel and the bottom with raspberry butter cream! I'm sure all I'll get of that teeny cake is the one bite that Michael feeds me- that's usually what happens from what I hear!

All of the bands you posted looked great with your style of ring! I like your idea of adding bands through the years (like tree rings, but more shiny! :rotfl:) Since the stones on MY rings don't go all the way around (cheap excuse for easy re-sizing) so I'll have to get my rings linked so the wedding band doesn't twist around. Yuck, not something I'm looking forward to (I hate turning my rings over and waiting WEEKS to get them back!) but a necessary evil, I guess! Your rings will look great together and I look forward to seeing photos!

You're moving??? Right now??? Crazy! You're going to be so busy getting settled as your wedding closes in! All good stress, I hope! This whole ordeal has had me SO stressed, but not in a BAD way, really. I will tell you this- I am so excited for the wedding, and I am SO excited for life to return to "normal" afterwards! ::yes:: Best of luck driving through the storm! It was really NOTHING when it passed though here. Just some rain, just some wind. Hopefully it'll be just as uneventful when you drive through it! Be safe, and have fun!!! :hyper:

Hey Ginger, I hope you have a safe drive today. I really think you should take the I-10 approach... the storm is now in northern LA and MS. Just make sure you get gas every chance you get. My parents live right off of I-12 just north of New Orleans, and there is very few places that have gas.

Thanks, Jillian It feels good to have it all submitted!! So nice to hear I'm not the only one to submit a bit late, haha. It's just so easy to get caught up with other things and forget about the planning guide. I love your music selections!! They're great choices, and I think will create a really lovely mood for the ceremony =)

Your cake sounds amazing!! I had such a hard time deciding on flavors. They all sound so tasty! I strongly lobbied for white cake with lemon buttercream, but I was over-ruled =(
The touch of character design will look fabulous with your cake topper! Can't wait to see photos of everything! =)

Meredith rang today about lunch time and went through the planning guide with me. As you had mentioned before, she seems really nice! Only a couple of changes needed---as I have so many CD songs, Meredith recommended just sticking with CD for everything. Guess I should have tried to use the pianist more in the ceremony music, but I suppose it'll sound more consistent with all recorded music. The second change is she said DCL could do the calla lily boutonnière, but after discussing it further, they could not add hydrangea. A minor boo, but not too big of a deal.

Ah, so you're getting your rings soldered? That'll be nice. At least you won't have to worry about them doing funny things on your finger. Yeah, I'm warming more to the idea of the plain band. It'll have more of a simple appearance than I had wanted, but still pretty.

Yeah, moving this week. Not ideal with the weather like it is, but it will be good to finally be settled into our new home together (think Timmy is over bach'-ing it). Hope you have a good weekend! Roll Tide!!

Thanks so much for your advice, Christie! After I saw your post, I went to talk to my Dad to rethink our travel plans. Due to parts of I-10 being closed yesterday and the gas shortage, we wanted to try to avoid that area. But You were completely correct about the weather in MS. So we decided to leave this afternoon instead of this morning, and this far we've managed to dodge a lot of the weather. We'll have to see if our luck holds out though. Thanks again! =)

Hi Ginger,

Happy belated birthday! I just finished reading your journal from start to finish. You've been so productive. Love your color choices, love that your working with DkDesign Diane's work is so beautiful and they will make such a wonderful keepsake. I honestly love everything you've been picking out we have similar tastes (that's why we are both going to be cruise brides). As for your rings I don't think you will need a notch in your setting. I have a knife edge 6 prong set solitair and a knife edge diamond set in platinum band. They are not notched and they sit flush. The diamond sits just high enough that they don't touch. Granted all jewellers are different but I'd double check if you think you will wear your band alone.. I posted a pic on the rings thread so you can see how close they sit.
Your dessert party plans sound amazing. I can't wait to see pictures. Everything is looking fab, keep posting :-)

Hi Evi!!
Thanks so much for reading my PJ and posting! :goodvibes It's great to hear from you!

I appreciate all the compliments regarding my plans. It's truly been a work in progress, and I just hope everything will turn out beautiful in the end ;) From the bit I've read about your wedding, it sounds like it will be fantastic! Can't wait to see photos of it!

Thank you for the input/photo about the rings! I think the problem lies in that DF designed it to be set lower than a traditional six prong setting. The jeweler assures me that I will hardly notice the notch in the plain platinum band though. She's supposed to send me mock up's of the ring soon, so I'll let you all know how it turns out. Fingers crossed it looks good!

So excited you're planning a DP also!! Any ideas as to the types of desserts you'll include?? I found it to be a really fun part of the wedding to plan! It was just hard to narrow it down with all the yummy choices Disney offers

Caught up! Stay safe! Have a good move.

Thanks so much!! Really appreciate you following along! :goodvibes

Finally made it safe and sound to Houston! :drive: Happy to be here! Now I just need to unpack, catch up with everyone's PJs, and get back into wedding planning mode!!

Finally caught up again. Your engagement photos are amazing! Just wow! If the rest are even half as lovely... wow.

I love that your hangers came with a little wire around the top with the date. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Your shoes are so fun and appropriate for a DCL wedding, so cute!

Hope your move went/is going well!

I actually grew up in New Orleans... but I've been all over with school and different internships under my favorite chiropractors.

Oh bummer about the Wishes music. Of course they would be anal about it.. considering they sell the CD in the parks and everything :confused3 Have everyone take out their smart phones with headphones on, hahahah... that would be funny.

I am a chiropractor- the boys tended to be cute, but they were jerks about halfway through school. I decided on a nice guy completely out of the profession. I had always thought I was going to marry a chiropractor, but Nick and I just clicked so well. It sucks though when we get off space mountain and I can adjust him but he can't adjust me! I feel so robbed :lmao:

We aren't "planning" one quite yet, but we have a trip next weekend to WDW... and it's pretty well established we are getting engaged sometime that weekend. So, soon. That being said, I have already planned most of it. Looking at WP and ADH. Also seriously considering the American Pavilion in EPCOT, but not sure about $$$.

Where are you guys looking to live in Houston? I just moved from The Woodlands up to College Station, and The Woodlands was wonderful. It was like Disney without, well... Disney. And the parks. And costumed characters... And, well you get it. There was tons to do and the area is pristine.

War Eagle!!

Hey Chiropractor Boys are not all bad! I married me one! :)

I love all of your updates and I am so thankful to have been able to help you with this awesome wedding! I can not wait to hear all about it!!!

Hey Ginger! Hope the move went well. I love the engagement photos...super cool. I had a friend who did some engagement pictures on a ranch, and they used a tractor... made me laugh (https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/44565_423600463802_4105309_n.jpg). You'll fit right in to Texas!

Any update on the rings yet? I'll be down in Katy this weekend for some continuing ed stuff :crazy2: Maybe after you guys get married before we get too crazy into wedding planning, we should do a disbrides day with the boys!

Hi Nicole!
Thanks for posting! Good to hear from you!

Really appreciate the kind comments about our engagement photos! We were pleasantly surprised about how the preview photos turned out, and cannot wait to see the rest! It's so hard to be patient for these things... I cannot imagine what it's like to wait for wedding photos.

I am so happy with the wedding dress hangers! I had never seen the additional charm before either--besides wedding dates, she does hearts and other short phases (e.g. "I Do"). Pretty cute. Additional bonus is that the vendor is super nice. If you're in the market for a dress hanger, definitely check out her etsy page (EricaMayMade).

Thanks also for the compliments about my shoes! I like them :) I know they're pretty simple, but I think they'll do the job well.

The move went well! Happy to finally be settling into the new apartment. Now I've got the monumental task of unpacking all my stuff (ugh) from Australia. We just adopted a new kitten though, so she's keeping things interesting during the day. Her favorite thing is to find obscure hiding spots... yesterday's was Timmy's leather carry-on suitcase

Thanks Lisa!! So nice of you to follow along, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all your help! I simply would not have been able to do it without you!! :) You truly are the best!! I'll try to send out an email this week to all the guests reminding them to fill out their online check-in. Thanks again!!

Hi Christie!
Thanks for the compliments about the engagement photos! It was funny... I kind of wanted to do atypical engagement photos (like glamorized/vintage versions of us working on the farm), but the photographer and the stylist gravitated toward the antique tractor and other shabby chic items we had on the farm. That's alright cause they still turned out pretty I think. Haha, I didn't even think to get on a tractor front end loader!! Missed opportunity! ;)

Yeah, I did speak with the jeweller the other day! We're going with a knife-edge plain platinum band (due to a necessary notch being involved), and she sent me CAD's of the ring/how it will fit with my engagement ring. The actual engagement ring has a more subtle knife edge than what is represented, and they assured me they would match that in the band, so hopefully it all turns out okay. It's sort of hard for me to interpret how the ring will look from these things... :scratchin Also, the notch looks relatively small, which was exciting for me to see!

I'd love to get together sometime after the wedding!! Just let me know when you're next in town, and we'll make it happen :goodvibes

What an adorable kitten!! I'm sure you're already on top of this since you're a vet, but keep an eye on the washer, dryer and dishwasher -- little ones love to hide out in those. We had a very curious kitten who took a spin in the dishwasher - fortunately we were in the room and heard him. We rinsed him off and he was fine, but I'm sure he used one of his "nine lives" in that episode. He lived to the ripe old age of 18 and never lost his sense of curiousity.

Your plans look lovely - best wishes to you and your future DH

Thank you for the compliments; she is definitely a little cutie-pie :goodvibes I also very much appreciate your advice. Being a vet as well as having raised numerous kittens on our farm, I am well aware of the hi-jinx they can get into. We have a bell collar on Miss Moneypenny (our other cat is named Bond, so we needed a Bond character ;)), and I keep close tabs on her. I heard many horror stories in vet school regarding cats and laundry machines/dishwashers. I'm so glad your kitty emerged unscathed, and lived to such a grand old age. That's fantastic!

Thank you for following my PJ!

Your engagement pictures were amazing. Jess did such a good job!

What a cute Kitty! Have fun unpacking. I moved 3 years ago and still have boxes in the basement. LOL

Ok first off, cutest kitten ever!! I would become a crazy cat lady and adopt every cat I met if my DF would let me!

Darling shoes! They are just fantastic and so so fitting!! Anddd I adore your engagement shots!! The photographer did an amazing job and you both are adorable!

Can't wait to keep reading!! Loving all your updates!:cutie:
