The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

Hi Angel! How are you? I've missed chatting with you so welcome!

Ellen- don't be in awe..............I can only do one thing at a time so you can just imagine what is going to happen at home :faint:

Allison- it sounds like Fran is making progress, even if it is slowly. I am hoping that she continues to improve. How are the two of you doing? I keep thinking about you and hope that you are starting to feel a bit better since you lost Arline.

Last night we had take out Chinese. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ended up at Welby's and joined her two little whirlwinds. kady started Toy Story with them :)

I am not sure about dinner. Kady is at her orientation to middle school  when did that happen?????????????????????? and I am waiting for the adjuster to call. So I have laundry going and am testing paint .............I think Buddy is right, it is too dark.

I'll BBL to let you know about dinner

Hello peoples! :flower3:

Crazy busy, I need a nap! Work is so busy and I had the girls this past weekend. Did some shopping for shoes and hermit crabs, went to a couple of local parks to let them play on the playgrounds, had snow cones and went out to eat a couple of times.

On the way to take the girls home to their DM the little one got carsick. :crazy2: Poor thing had her head down in a trash bag most of the way there. I pulled into the place where we were meeting my sister and she is standing there laughing at us, the oldest one had texted her. :rotfl: I have to say it was kind of comical because one minute the little one is crying, then throwing up then just as sunny happy as could be. When I pulled up next to my sisters van she hopped out of my van, took her trash bag to a trash can all the while just chattering on about what happened. :goodvibes

Welcome over here Angel!

Nan - Thanks for asking. The RA doctor said just as I suspected. She can't have her super drug while she has open wounds, but he was able to prescribe something that works with moderate Arthritis. Unfortunately, hers is severe so we'll have to see if it gives her any relief. The other good news she got was at the wound Dr. They said that she can take a shower without having to wrap her leg in saran wrap. She can just remove the dressing, shower and I can reapply it once she is dry.

That is HUGH news Alison, her wound is healing well enough to stop protecting it during bathing. No saran wrap will make the shower more enjoyable for Fran and you too. :thumbsup2 Praying that the new medication will help with her RA.

Welcome over, Angel 16! :goodvibes

Angel ~ Welcome!! :wave2: We have some good cooks here and have a lot of fun. Stick around!

Hi Angel! How are you? I've missed chatting with you so welcome!

Thank you ALL for the warm welcome! :goodvibes

Dinner last night turned out pretty good. Only problem was I got side tracked with some kid issues and didn't start as early as I should have. I don't like to eat dinner on European time.

Nancyg56 - We are doing great. Getting ready for our trip, working on our house which will now be put on a back burner until our return. A while back you ask about our SIL who was deployed and home on R&R in 2005/2006. We treated them to club level at AKL during his R&R. Wow you have a good memory Nancy. ::yes::

He came home fine thank God. Our DD is doing ok, however they are now getting a divorce. It is a long and very sad story. :sad2: It has been so difficult on the entire family. When a couple break up it affects so many. However, our daughter is going to be much better without him in her life.

WFDT- I am tired today so BLT sandwiches with home grown tomatoes, veggies and dip, fresh fruit.

Ann

Alison - Glad to hear that Fran is doing better.

Ellen - Good luck to Doug with his golf! Hope they win.

Nancy - Kady is in middle school??? And, excuse my ignorance, but what is an adjuster?

Marilyn - Shoes, crabs and sick. I definitely can't top that one!

Ann - Sorry to read about your DD and I hope she finds peace and joy in moving on.
I'm pretty much known as PiO on the boards; just a little gun shy about using my first name.

Been an interesting time for me lately. Aside from crazy, normal work, I've been having issues with a bit of insomnia. Not sure why - I just go through periods of it from time to time. It all caught up on Tuesday (my Tuesday) and I ended up sleeping in and through to 1 pm in the afternoon. I haven't slept in like that since I don't remember when. But it seems to have done the trick. Normal sleep patterns last night and I hope it continues through to tonight.

WFDT? Wednesday night means dinner at mum's. :thumbsup2

Hermit Crabs????? Car sick.... that sounds like fun!:crazy2:

Hi everyone :wave2: Alison was very sweet to suggest I join your thread. This looks like a great group of people and I know some of you from other threads. Cool! I don't often get over the community boards...maybe I need to change that from what I see here. Your recipe section on the front page looks pretty great. :thumbsup2
I love to cook, throw parties fairly often and really enjoy trying new things. Looking forward to all your knowledge, learning new things and having fun.

WFD- My mom's breaded pork chops (fried then baked), Steamed zucchini, baked potato, homemade applesauce and fresh fruit for desert. Just like my mom would fix.

Hi Ann!!!!!!

Glad you dropped by! Stay, enjoy and share!

So update on Insanity!

We just completed the third week! Yes, I said third week... Can you all believe it. :cool1: I mean we are upright and breathing normally after three whole weeks of Insanity! :cheer2::cheer2: :lmao::lmao:

Last night I completed 27 minutes of the 42 minutes for the disk. :scared: That includes the warm up, which you remember I could not complete the first few times, the stretching section, (I mean who knew you could get your body to twist around like that anyway), and then three complete rotations of the work out!

David and I both were so tired after that, we barley got dinner on the table...
Chicken salad.

Now we have not changed our eating habits at all with this new workout, so I understand why there is not a huge difference in my weight, but I have lost three pounds.... A pound a week is not too bad!

I can tell a huge difference in my cardio and recovery, there was a time that walking up two flight of stairs had me so winded I could hardly move and now I am running up them and not breathing hard after a few seconds. So that part I am loving.

So my body is getting stronger also, I am able to jump higher and for longer intervals.

My feet hurt at times, and the surgery site gets a little inflamed and sore but it recovers pretty fast, so I really happy, but please don't tell David.... he thinks I am only doing this for him:upsidedow

Insanity sounds insane, Brandi! Congrats on sticking with it. :thumbsup2

Today, I went foraging in the freezer and found some frozen tomato sauce. I'd forgotten I still had some left over from the garden tomatoes that I planted!

WFDT? Pasta with the tomato sauce! It should still be good.

Sounds good...

I made Tomato Soup from my garden tomatoes and plan on that with grilled cheese for dinner tonight!

Fast recovery for that little one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He came home fine thank God. Our DD is doing ok, however they are now getting a divorce. It is a long and very sad story. :sad2: It has been so difficult on the entire family. When a couple break up it affects so many. However, our daughter is going to be much better without him in her life.

I am so glad that you are taking a trip, you need to get away I think. I am so sorry to hear that things are not well with your DD and your SIL. It is not easy to balance supporting our adult children and yet not hurting those children by marriage we have come to love. You're right, it is very hard on everyone.

I remember our conversations because I so enjoyed all of the lovely ladies on that thread. :goodvibes

Kady was 4 years old back then and Buddy's little Princess. She went through a snippy stage but she is back to being our sweet girl. She is going to be sad this year, Bud still would go whenever he could to have lunch with her in school. The kids all thought she was one lucky girl! I don't think we can go this year and he will miss it as much if not more than her.

Been an interesting time for me lately. Aside from crazy, normal work, I've been having issues with a bit of insomnia. Not sure why - I just go through periods of it from time to time. I hope tonight brings a good night's sleep!

PIO- an adjuster is the person who comes by and assesses the damage to something that is insured. In our case it was to that darn tobacco. They decided that we have 41 pounds of good tobacco per acre. Now Buddy grows over 1800 pounds per acre so that is a pretty lousy crop.
Kady is going to be 11 and is going into 6th grade. Middle school here!

how is the painting coming along!
It is at a standstill :headache: Buddy hates every color I come home with. I have a patchworks room right now, color samples painted all over. :artist: I think I am going to just go back to my apricot, just a little darker.

I hate to admit it but he is right so far :rolleyes1

I am so impressed with your stamina! Keep it up, you are my Hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ellen- check your PM's

Dinner is some kind of chicken. I thawed out BL/SL thighs and some ground chicken. I wanted to make an eggplant casserole with the ground chicken but I am TIRED> I am afraid that if I don't get my fall cleaning done before I go back to school next Wednesday I will not do it so I dragged my steamer out, hauled everything out of ady's room and started. Ten I did the same to my bathroom. It is all done in fall decorations. 2 down and a lot more to go!

On the guacamole recipe you can use onion. Not a lot though. Shallots are not that big keep that in mind. Try a whole foods store for shallots?

Tonite we are having spaghetti with turkey meat. Garlic bread and salad.

Hermit Crabs????? Car sick.... that sounds like fun!:crazy2:

Well it was fun until the carsick part. ;)

Nancy- yes it was. I talked to my sister and she said she was fine for the rest of the day and that if she was going to throw up she was glad she didn't do it at home. :rotfl:

Only a few more days of craziness and I will be through the rough parts.

Hi :wave2:
Sounds like everyone is having a pretty crazy time right now!

Good job on the insanity Brandi! I know how you feel about climing stairs. I'm getting better at it just from making myself do it.

PIO - hopefully you can sleep better in boo boo land! :rotfl2:

Nancy - sorry about the tobacco loss, hopefluly the insurance will give you something.

Ann - too bad about your DD, but as you said, if she's better off without him, then it's for the best.

WFD? Something simple, Fran suggested sandwiches! :rotfl2:

Nancy - sorry for the tobacco loss. Thanks for explaining the adjuster. I don't know if we have a similar thing here.

Brandi - Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich sounds real good to me right now.

Alison - Boo Booland sleep was reasonable. It was work that was a headache!

Long day today in the office and I've come home with a scratchy sore throat. My dinner ended up being a very scrappy hot dog tonight. :headache:

.

Sorry to hear about the crop, I try to buy most of our groceries from the local farmers, but it is hard to do with tobacco, do you have much local support? So sorry to hear of the loss you are dealing with.

I hate to admit when David is right about things like that too. I did pick every color in our house, and some David did not like at first but now he likes them all, even the crazy gray/blue in the kitchen, it just makes everything pop...

I am so impressed with your stamina! Keep it up, you are my Hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not impressed with myself in comparison to the people on the DVD, but I am improving each week. David of course is really doing good.

Fall decorating.... Hmmmm I have not done that for years.... I am just to tired to do stuff like that...

But for some reason I can put up veggies and make sauces to can, and make preserves, and cobblers.... Wait does this mean that food is more important to me that decorating......:rolleyes1

Whoop for getting thru the rough parts!

It sounds good enough to me that we are having left over soup and making fresh grilled cheese tonight for supper...

Alison, I will have germ killer for dessert! Or the peach cobbler I made last night with the left over Peaches I had...
