'You Big Fatty!' A delicious dining review- COMPLETE!!

Great reviews so far Shari and Simon! I always enjoy seeing my much loved avocado margarita again. I didn't get to visit La Cava on my last trip because one of my two daughters which I was with is only 19 (and I know what you mean about the "eye" thing ;) ). But I did manage to have one at our lunch at San Angel Inn. Ahhh...frozen cocktail perfection! :cloud9:

I'm looking forward to your review of Tokyo Dining. It is one Epcot restaurant that I haven't been to yet. We went a few times when it was...the name escapes me??? :confused3 Shoot, now I'm going to drive myself crazy trying to think of it. :lmao:

Loving your reviews! Thank you for sharing! Can't wait for the avocado margarita, less than two months away! :)

Brilliant reviews! I also had that delicious chocolate cake from Sunshine Seasons...*sigh*.....makes me want to book a trip right now! lol I'm looking forward to the rest of your culinary crusade!

Enjoying your reviews! Kona looks so good. And I must try that avocado margarita! But first I must convince DH that we should go back in Feb! ;)

Oh Sunshine Seasons: beet salad and strawberry shortcake!! ONE WEEK!!
Thanks for your reviews!! Your pics are wonderful!:wizard:

Thank you! One week? Very exciting! I was bad sometimes and forgot to take photos  too excited over the food!

I love avocados and I love cocktails - but I was skeptical about the two together! I needn't have been. It was lovely!

It's always nice to have a trip to aim for!

Great reviews. I was excited to see you reviewing Columbia Harbour House, Sunshine Seasons and La Cava. Those are three places we have never eaten and plan to this trip. They all look great and thanks for the gem of eating lunch at 11:30 ish. It would nice to miss the crowds as much as possible. What time did you all get to the parks? I imagine you had some serious jetlag going on. Heck, we get jetlag with the three hour difference we have. Between that, the heat and humidity it takes a few days.

Looking forward to your next update.

Thank you Angel! :) We love CHH and SS - and they are usually lovely and quiet earlier on like Papaboogie said.

It varied what time we got into the parks - we tried to get in earlier and then have a break in the afternoon, before going to eat later on. We didn't suffer too badly from jet lag luckily! But oh yes, it was hot!

So after travelling around the world we ended up at Tokyo Dining. This was a new experience for us and we were really looking forward to it.

We checked in and went upstairs. I started off with one of these:

A Tokyo sunset. This was very yummy and refreshing.

Onto the food - Simon had the tempura shrimp and Vegetables:

I think he enjoyed it but it didn't overly wow him.

Kate had the breaded chicken:

And Sarah had the breaded pork:

They both seemed to enjoy this although the portions were very good and they could not finish!

I had a Sakura Bento box:

I loved this! All the different tastes in one box - delicious! It's exactly the type of meal I love - no chance to get bored. The tempura batter was light and crisp, the braised pork was very tender, the sushi rolls were full of flavour and everything else was equally amazing. It was an awful lot of food but I ate most of it!

I think we all had the chocolate ginger cake for pudding. This was very nice too.

I really enjoyed my meal here. The service was good and the restaurant was very beautiful. I'm not sure my guys enjoyed their food as much as I did mine though. I'm sure Simon will tell you....;)

Would we go here again? I would like to.

Big Fatty Rating: 7 out of 10

I was offline for a few days and I was happy to come back to see some more reviews! I've never tried Sunshine Seasons but it looks like something we'd really enjoy. However I HAVE tried the avocado margarita and even after the first sip I wasn't sure what to think because like you, I love avocado and I love drinks but together? So my sister and I split one of these and by the end we were fighting over who would get the last little bit of it! :lmao:

We were very close to trying Tokyo Dining but we opted for a different restaurant. However, a Big Fatty rating of 7/10 sounds pretty good to me and I think my DD13 would like the food here. So I will put this on my list for next time! :thumbsup2

Hi, I've not read any of your previous reviews but am loving this one :thumbsup2

We've got an ADR at Tokyo Dining and I was debating what to have - I love the look of your box meal, very tempting....

I'm also determined to try Sunshine Seasons this time - both the strawberry and chocolate desserts look fab :lovestruc

Eagerly awaiting more reviews, thank you :)

Sunshine Seasons is great - there are several different stations where you can get a variety of food - salads, sandwiches, asian food, hot food etc. There's always something to suit any appetite.

When we went to Tokyo Dining we spotted the tables at Teppan Edo on the way to the restrooms :rolleyes1 and it looked like a lot of fun in there. We may try that some day....if we ever get back.

Thank you for reading - Geordie person in Yorkshire! :thumbsup2 Sunshine Seasons had an amazing selection of desserts - I really wanted to try more of them!

Yes, that bento box at TD was one of my favourite TS meals in WDW.

Well, in that case I may just be having that Bento box in TD ;) Lesley x

Other Bento boxes are available.....:)

Mine was the sakura which is described as:

Sakura - chef selection of Japanese mixed grill, braised pork, California roll, tempura shrimp and vegetables $25.95

There is also:

Fuji - chef selection of sliced sirloin, sashimi, California roll, tempra shrimp and vegetables $27.95

Both come with:

A combination of Japanese tasting dishes served with miso soup and steamed rice

And it's all very yummy indeed!

That's fab, thanks for extra detail on those boxes, I'm busy writing down a list of all the food choices I fancy in each restaurant (sad, I know ) but I just looove looking and and reading about food!! Lesley

Not sad at all! We've all done that! I pretty much know what I'm going to eat when I get there! :lmao:

Yummo!! That pork chop looks really, really good, as does your Bento Box meal!! Now, I'm hungry again!!

Having stumbled away from Cava del Tequila (although still not drunk enough to make Maelstrom exciting...), dinner was at Tokyo Dining.
I've wanted to try this restaurant for some time having had my first taste of Japanese food at WDW in 2010 visiting the predecessor of Katsura Grill - whose name totally eludes me.
The restaurant itself is lovely, it's very open and stylish and the staff were delightful: very polite and helpful. I decided not to be terribly adventurous and had the Gozen Tempura combination of Tempura Fried Chicken and Shrimp (quick cut in here, I'm recalling all the menu details due to the wonderful WDW Dining app for iPhone / iPad, which is indispensable. The menus are very occasionally not completely up to date, but it's the handiest and most succinct guide to all the WDW restaurants I've ever found for the iPad).
The presentation was great and the shrimp was delicious and I really enjoyed this, but the chicken seemed bland and I wasn't particularly fond of it. Now a proviso here, I suspect this has more to do with my lack of experience with Japanese food than any negative on the restaurant's part. It wasn't what I was expecting but may well have been perfectly prepared. The mass of accompaniments also didn't work for me, but not being a vegetable fan, the somen salad, sunomono and the Miso soup probably were always going to be an issue. Again, I think this was more my failing and I suspect were my taste for Japanese food slightly more developed I would have gained more from the experience.
However, I enjoyed the opportunity to eat in Tokyo Dining and it did highlight for me the reason why the free dining plan is so wonderful (aside from making our holiday affordable), you can afford to try something different and take a risk and if it doesn't work out, hey, it's basically cost you nothing and you can always go and grab a burger afterwards with a counter service credit! To me, that is the great thing about free dining, the chance to try things you would never normally try because it's not really costing anything.
And if nothing else, the Kirin beer was lovely...

Brilliant Start!! Joining in for all the delicious details!

We love going to Sunshine Seasons! I have never tried (or even noticed on the menu) the beet and goat cheese salad. I don't know if I like beets, but that sure does look good. I may have to be adventurous and try it next time!

Your review of Tokyo dining makes me want to dine there at our next opportunity. I didn't realize you have so many choices; I thought it was basically a hibachi style place where everyone was basically served from a selection of meats. Me and DP eat all veggies and seafood but no other meat. Do you think that would be a problem with the hibachi grill etc?

I think you would be fine at Tokyo Dining - they have lots of seafood and tons of vegetables. All very delicious and fresh.
