Can Someone Explain The Resort Within a Resort Thing?

I am looking at a place to stay in October, and I'm noticing some odd things about Vegas hotels. For example, it says the Four Seasons is actually the top 3 floors of the Mandalay Bay resort? How does that even work? Is there a totally separate check in area?

Ya, this is new to me and I go to Vegas a few times a year. If you want a good deal, go downtown. Four Queens is $28 a night or something and you don't have to walk a mile to get to another casino. Looser slots too and they send me free rooms now.

I think it the 4 queens and the golden nugget share the same pool, I might have read some where it was on the 4 th or 5th floor of one of the hotels.

I'm not really interested in staying downtown. I've never been and the only reason we're going is for a wedding in October. We aren't really gamblers, I'm just going to lounge by the pool and drink. It's also possible that I may have to bring my 9 year old daughter, so I'm not looking for a "bargain" per say. I was looking more at places like The Mirage and Mandalay Bay because they have more things to entertain a kiddo. If I bring my daughter, we aren't really going to leave the hotel other than to go to the wedding at the Flamingo.

There are some hotels within hotels at some resorts in Vegas. Not at Golden Nugget, though.

At Mandalay Bay the top floors are separate - you reach them by a separate elevator - they have fab views, their own restaurant - very expensive, and yes, you check in at a different location.

I know Monte Carlo has a little luxury hotel that is also separate - it is called THE hotel or something like that. I think these are owned separately and possibly they lease space from the resort they are housed in. But you get to share the pool areas, and (of course) the casino.

THEhotel is actually at Mandalay Bay as well and is owned/operated by Mandalay, it's just their all suites hotel. Monte Carlo has one too but it's name escapes me at the moment. The Four Seasons is the top 3 floors of Mandalay Bay and has a separate check in and their own elevators as PP stated.

Blue Devil, you are so correct - the hotel on top of Monte Carlo is called Hotel 32 - sorry for the confusion!

HOTEL32 is the seperate hotel at Monte Carlo, the Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay. THE hotel at Mandalay Bay is getting set to become Delano Las Vegas. For the Four Seasons and the Morgan group, it's a way to get a property "on the strip" without actually having an actual property on the strip.

The Four Seasons has its own address, lobby, valet parking garage, loading dock, restaurants, gift shops, meeting rooms and pool & spa. There's even a stoplight to turn into their driveway off Las Vegas Blvd. However, it is physically contained within the "footprint" of the Mandalay Bay property.

The top three floors of Mandalay Bay are their VIP suites and the House of Blues Foundation Room Lounge & Restaurant.

The three floors below that are the Four Seasons rooms. The elevators that access these floors are accessed in the Four Seasons lobby.

All of the floors below this are regular Mandalay Bay rooms & suites.

Some property amenities are shared. If you want to self park at Four Seasons, or park an oversized vehicle, this parking area is part of the surface lot adjacent to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Four Seasons guests can use the pool at Mandalay Bay but not the other way around. If you get in a Four Seasons elevator in their lobby, you can go up one floor; and when you get out, it is the casino level at Mandalay Bay. You can get off the elevator here and when you leave the elevator lobby, you are near the Casino VIP check in lounge, across from the main front desk, at Mandalay Bay. The elevators continue to the Four Seasons rooms as an "express" elevator - the rooms are on high floors.

Look at Mandalay Bay on Google Earth; and you can see where the Four Seasons is, in relation to the Mandalay Bay hotel tower.

Other properties that "share" building in Las Vegas are the Mandarin Oriental at CityCenter; The Mansion at MGM Grand and SkyLofts at MGM Grand.
