Costumes for the 2013 Disney marathon weekend?

Last year was not only my first time running a Disney Half but a half in general...so now I am hooked! I signed up for the Goofey challenge - so lets see.
What I noticed was all the glittery fun costumes a lot of runners were wearing. Many dressed up as Disney characters. I saw a fellow dressed as Snow White another man dressed as Tinkerbell. Women wearing pirate wigs and costumes and a whole lot of tutu's (worn by both sexes).

I am thinking of dressing up too and was wondering who is and what are you planning on up dressing as...and if you did wear a costume like Snow White, how uncomfortable was it?

I dressed as a sweaty, disgusting RUNNER! :crazy2:

Seriously...the costumes are incredibly awesome, and my hat's off to anyone that wears them, but some of them just look like they'd be stifling after 13.1/26.2 miles. For the 2013 marathon I'm planning on ordering a Minnie-esque running skirt, and that's as far as I go! I'm too big a wimp to wear an actual costume during the race. :thumbsup2

Wow, I dressed up as a sweaty runner, also!

Note that if this is your first full along with Goofy DO NOT costume up on Sunday. Running a full is like 3 halves and if you run the half the day before it can feel double distance. Take the stress off on Sunday. Run in a costume on Saturday when you will be out there a lot less time.

As always, try the costume out on a longer training run. What feels fine in the house can turn into a real pain an hour into a run once it starts to get saturated.

It never occurred to me to try out the costume on a longer training run. I already get some funny looks when I sing along to my music ... adding on a costume ?! I love it! (also - good point because I ran in a costume for a different race - and it was a disaster.

I am doing my first Disney half (my 3rd half marathon) I was thinking about doing a superhero cape that I can stitch to me t-shirt and maybe matching knee socks.

I thought of that Cewait. How annoying are costumes after a while...they become heavy and cumbersome and in the way.

I was thinking of something light airy and if annoying - tossable. Something simple like a tutu and ears...but I know even ears can be annoying after a while.

One girl told me (she wore a pirate wig) that she did the wig the whole 26.2 miles but wanted to toss it. It was hot and heavy and sweaty and irritating BUT she added she recieved so much attention from it thats what kept her wearing it!

I don't know any other race in the world where you can wear a costume and not be looked at like some sort of a weirdo.

That would be cool...it probably wouldn't be annoying after a while...since you plan on stitching it to your shirt.

What kind of a race did you run and what kind of costume that made it a disaster?

You too?!

I second the idea of trying out the costume first...there's a rule that you never try anything new on race day (fuel, shoes, etc.) so why not try out your costume ahead of time as well? I hope you find something that works!

I love costumes and seeing others wear them! I TRIED to wear a tiara and tutu for the princess half. The tutu kept sliding down so I ditched it in the first half of the race. It was becoming a safety hazard! I finished with tiara only but it was starting to give me a headache!

For the full, my first, I will not wear a costume. : )

I'm likely going to pick an outfit "inspired" by Rapunzel. So, light purple top, slightly darker purple running skirt. Maybe do my hair in a braid. Not a full on costume, since anything more will likely be cause problems during my first full marathon.

I LOVE the costume idea, but I've always been chicken. My Mom and I wore tutus for our first Princess half in 2011 and they were so hot that we ditched them at about mile 5.

What I have seen that looks like it works well is if people wear tops/bottoms that correspond to a character. For example, pale yellow top and running skirt for Belle, etc. I think I'm going to be Alice sometime and I'm on the hunt for a light blue running skirt.

Definitely agree with testing it out on a training run. Heck, I try out a "normal" race outfit on a training run.

There are definately some creative ways to run in a costume. I am going to put together something that is simple but obvious what I am..whatever that will end up being.

How many other races or anything in your life where you can wear a costume and run

A friend of mine asked if I was in this whole running thing for the costumes. The answer is a resounding, unequivocal YES and I sized him up as a PERFECT Goofy. And I don't just do a simple costume, either. This is my costume for the Disneyland 1/2 next weekend, the inspiration was the ballerina from the Haunted Mansion and I have some links for suggestions/pictures of people's costumes.

My first half I also wore a costume (I went as Sailor Moon) and I'll be going as one of the IASW children for the Wine and Dine. I can tell you that it was definitely more fun. People cheer you on by your character's name and you do get more attention. For the full, though, I'm not planning on anything elaborate like for the 1/2s but I'm definitely doing something.

Definitely don't run in anything you haven't tried out beforehand (when I took my first costume out for a test spin my friend said, "please tell me you didn't go out in public like that...") and don't be afraid of a costume! It can be something simple from regular running clothes and still be really fun and awesome, something that'll help get you through the miles. With the proliferation of themed running skirts (and I've seen photos of guys who glue white buttons on red pants/shorts and make themselves Mickeys), you can really easily put something together that's fun and functional .

Thats really cool! I actually was thinking of dressing as one of the hippo ballerinas from Fantasia. I would wear grey with a little pink tutu and ribbons around my sneakers.
However I don't think anyone would guess thats what I was...they would just think I was dressed in a ballet outfit.
The other idea I had was dressing as Cinderella BEFORE her fairy godmother came to visit...or the fairy godmother herself. But that requires a cape and hood and that would be too much.

That is so funny--I was looking through Fantasia and thinking about the hippos too!! Some people don't get it when you do something a little more obscure but when you find someone who does... It's like a great inside joke.
I really like the pre-fairy godmother Cinderalla, too...

Hi all!

runDisney is the perfect place to run in costume :)

For my first big runDisney race (WDW Half Marathon in 2011) I just went with the 'regular' running outfit, but by Princess Half 2012, I realized just how fun it could me to add some magic to the miles by dressing as one of my favorite characters! For that race, I made a Mulan costume:

Here's the race recap as well.

Since that race, I've been scheming up great new costumes for future events. There are some AWESOME ideas at Team Sparkles blog here.

As for my next appearance...well, I just came up with a fun one (for Wine and Dine half) that I just cannot wait to debut! Any guesses??

I like your idea. I'm afraid of the tutu and crown. It'd probably fall off. Don't get me wrong, a little costume would be wicked but running and sweating in it... Makes you uncomfortable

I'm already thinking about my costume for the TOT 10 miler in 2014 :lmao: Any excuse to dress up!

Since it's a scary/villian type theme, I'm considering going as Ursula. It would involve a purple running skirt, black v-neck running top, and some black streamers tied to a belt that I already wear to hold my keys (which just happens to be purple and black) to represent tentacles. Then probably just a purple headband maybe with a shell glued on or something, and something for a shell necklace. And my hair just in a regular high ponytail with white hairspray (or I did see an idea for white clip-in hair pieces which also looked quite effective). I'd probably give eye make up a miss coz it would just get all sweaty and smeared anyway (yuck!), but might give the red lips a go.

Obviously it's not going to be a full on Ursula costume, but I'm sure people would get the idea and it's all based on running clothes so would still be easy to run in.
