What should we do in Costa Maya?

We will be in Costa Maya from 1:00 - 5:30. When we cruise, my kids will be 5 years and 23 months. What should we do? What is your favorite beach or place to go? Anything we really shouldn't miss?

We'll probably just play on the ship.

The Tropicante was wonderful. Costa Maya turned out to be one of our favorite stops. The beach was wonderful! The food was great and very reasonably priced. The restroom/changing area was very clean. We also hooked on to the free wifi to check email and send a few photos...

I agree about Tropicante. $25.00 for a full ONE-HOUR massage! Wonderful beach too. Can't wait to go back!:cool1:

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!

I had the first massage, and I eagerly told my DH (who was too busy enjoying the water:)) that he MUST get one. He opted for the 1/2 hour ($15.00) and LOVED it. As we were leaving he said "I wish I'd had gotten the 1-hr massage now." We're so eager to go again and will when the Magic comes to Galveston.:thumbsup2

The Tropicante really gave us the whole package. We were traveling with children ages 10 - 17 and they all had a great time. I also had a massage and it was far better than ones that I have had on the ship. If I hadn't opened by eyes I would have sworn I was at the Ritz Carlton or Red Door Salon. We were later told that all the therapist were licensed and all had advanced training.

The small town around the area is also very quaint and fun to walk around.

We've got reservations at the Tripicante for our Sept. 29 cruise with DD, 5, and DS, 3 :).

How much does it cost for reservations and what is included (beach chairs, etc)? Thanks in advance! This sounds very interesting.

it doesnt cost anything! (they ask you purchase food/ and or drinks).... tropicante is a restaurant (read reviews on trip advisor) email steve the owner and he will save you beach front chairs at his place. It is a beach with jet ski vendors, massages etc. Check out thier website....we are going in December cant wait! I just emailed him asking to save us 2 seats and he responded right away and said no problem. The menu is posted as well, $2 beers!

so might you have time for doing the dolphin encounter and then the beach?
Are they close to each other??
And would love a massage!

Are you on Fantasy? That's our sailing too! I just made Tropicante reservations last night, so we'll see you there. :D I'm sure my 5 year old will be happy to have someone to play with!

Sounds like we missed out on the Tropicante. We were in Costa Maya back in June and we just popped in the pool at the pier for about a half hour then rented a golf cart to drive around the island. Went in a couple sketchy parts of town, but it was pretty cool. Wish we knew about Tropicante back then, it's sounds wonderful.

We loved, loved, loved Maya Chan resort. Its a private beach, all inclusive with food and drinks, plus private palapas.

It was by far our favorite part of our Fantasy cruise. The only downside was the limited time we had (8:30 to 1:00 pm on our cruise) given our short port time.

Is this close by the port?
How long'a cab ride?
:)Looks nice.

After thinking about the dolphin encounter.. I googled dolphins in captivity.. Can't do it now. It was sad.

Just going' to the beach and snorkeling!!

Check out the Tropicante same beach and not an all inclusive. My family of 2 adults and 2 teens spent the day there and ate and drank (cokes) for a total of $54 and were full and well taken care of. that is less than the cost of one adult at Maya Chan:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Maya Chan arranges transportation for you. I'm gonna say 20 -25 minutes, maybe. Shoot them an email and they'll give you all the details given your port times.

They had a bus for us at port about 30 minutes after we docked. If you missed it, no biggie. You grabbed a cab and they took care of the cost.

They also have massages there very reasonably priced. I want to say $25 for a half hour.

PM me and I'll send you the info they gave us. I just have to go digging.

While it was more than the place the pp mentioned, the price covered everything: food, smoothies and such for the kids, alcohol for the adults, AMAZING salsa and chips upon arrival, lunch, activities for the kids like scavenger hunts, biking, water activities like kayaking and free wifi.

We would have paid more given the privacy - after being close to 4,000 other cruisers it was great to have the palapa (open cabana) with hammock and lounger just to ourselves right on the water.
