Hi everyone.

Will be flying into houston international airport for the May transaltlantic crossing on the 17th.
Can you advise the best way to get to Galveston port and were to stay the night before.

thanks

The easiest/most economical thing would probably be to stay at the Marriot right there within IAH, and take the Disney transfers the next morning.

Or you could stay at the Hotel Galvez or the San Luis (which I believe are Disney choice hotels) and enjoy the evening in Galveston. Are you planning on using Disney transport?

I have been looking at different cruise transportation from Houston and I'm really surprised there are not better options.

Many of the hotels in Galveston offers free cruise terminal transport.

That's what we are doing for the May transatlantic. Flying in the evening before to avoid the kids missing another day of school. Staying at the IAH Marriott, got a decent AAA rate and taking DCL transfers the next morning. We booked R/T transfers for $60 pp since we will use them for transfer from the ship to the Barcelona airport for our flight to Copenhagen.

I'm planning to stay at the Hotel Galvez on the night before my Magic cruise in January. What is a Disney Choice Hotel? (DCL newbie, here!)

A hotel Disney is using as a base. Will have transportation from airport to the hotel and will most likely have a cruise desk set up where you can check in/answer questions.

Thanks, good to know. I stayed there last year the night before a Carnival Cruise. Hotel Galvez is a great hotel, they have free cruise parking and a shuttle to the pier. Looking forward to my 'Magic'al vacation!!!

Great suggestion, the Galvez and the San Luis both are amazing places! That's kinda why I didn't suggest it... heh. I can't even wrap my brain around just being there for a few hours and then leaving again. They're places to stay and savor the time there. But I also can't imagine only being on the island itself for just a few hours -- there's SO much to do and see and experience. It's not like cruising out of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale or something. I would fly in at least a couple of days ahead of time. :goodvibes

And you're right about the transportation -- there really should be more options. But I think it's one of those ports where the vast majority of the people (like me) are driving in and not flying. The supply of better transportation is likely not there because the demand probably isn't either. Just my guess.

Thinking its time to start a transport business! I'm amazed there is no GREAT transport options :(

Gina, my cruise ends on 2/1/13!! I promise my friend and I will leave everything just as nice & clean as we find it!! ::yes:: It's our first Disney cruise & we're very excited!!! :yay:
I hope January/February is here before we know it!! :woohoo:

I booked our RT transfers to/from Houston Hobby this afternoon with DCL. Cost is $60/person. We are flying from Detroit the afternoon before the cruise. I tried to book a room at DCL's preferred hotel, Marriott South at Hobby, however, the CM advised that no hotels near Hobby were appearing on her screen. She put me on a "wait list" for a room.

We are cruising 11/24/12! :thumbsup2

How exciting!! Don't eat all the Mickey bars and leave us none!! :thumbsup2

Where do the transfers to the port pick you up, the Marriott?

I would like to know this also. The IAH Marriott is on airport property and has a stop on the underground tram to all of the terminals. It would make sense to leave from the Marriott.

Has anyone boarded the transfer to port at the Marriott?

I've been thinking the same thing! I feel so bad for everyone I wish I could offer to help everyone get from the airport(s) to Galveston just out of the goodness of my heart. There's just so many flying in it'd be a full-time job!:cutie:
