So we finally are flying an airline where we can check our bags straight through :cool1:
We put them outside our room last night. When do we see them again? I am just curious about going through customs. Do we have to claim them, go through customs and then give them up again? Or do we go through customs in our home airport?

Many thanks!

Since you're flying on one of the onboard checkin airlines, once you put your bags out the last night you won't see them again until you arrive at your final destination airport (make sure you put on the tags that you'll receive in your cabin). Once you disembark you still go through customs at the port where you give them your paperwork, etc. but you don't need to claim your luggage. We've used the program a few times and it is great!

Are you using DCL transfers? I believe you must use their busses in order to have your luggage go right through. If you have a rental car or private car service, even if you are on a participating airline, you will have to collect your luggage youself.

Correct, you have to use DCL air or ground transportation to qualify.

Depending on which port you're talking about, the procedure may be different. In PC, as long as you have DCL transfers or purchased your air through DCL, you will put your bags outside your room the last night and won't see them again until your home airport.

At some of the other ports, you will put your bags outside your room the last night, claim them in the terminal to take through customs, and then turn them over to the bus driver for transport. I'm not sure if you get them again at the airport to be checked on the plane, but I don't think so.

Does anyone know if this service would be available on the Vancouver to LA repositioning cruise? I've never been to the port in San Pedro. Thank you! :)

I know that in San Pedro, you put your bags outside your room the last night. But you have to claim them in the terminal to go through customs.

I can't help with the transfer to the airport part, San Pedro is our home port and we drive home from there. I do know there are DCL transfers available to LAX, but I don't know how they handle the luggage part after you go through customs.

Thank you! I have a feeling it's a 'claim your bags' situation. I've booked the transfer to LAX, so guess I will just play 'Where's Waldo' with my bags and take them through customs to the bus. :)
Lucky you being able to drive to the port! I don't think DCL will EVER be doing cruises out of my hometown - unless they play 'Honey, who shrunk the ship?' to get into the Great Lakes! :rotfl2:

Yea, the only problem - DCL is making the west coast a temporary home, no plans on a permanent base here :sad1:. I wish they would continue the pacific coast itineraries and Hawaii. Maybe look into longer (Austrailia/Tahiti/South America) cruises occasionally.

Okay so I am coming from Alaska, going through Seattle.
I am NOT using DCL transportation.

Anyone know what happens in this situation?

When I called Disney they said I had to use Disney transport to qualify for onboard check -in so I booked one-way from the port to SeaTac. It came to $120 for the 4 of us .

OK. what if you have a post-resort..

I have a Bahamas cruise in about 5 days... then going to Animal Kingdom Lodge via ground transport. I understand that you can leave your Luggage outside your door by 10:00 PM the night before, but what about the morning after? do you have to retrieve your luggage somewhere after breakfast, then go thru custums. and the take your luggage some where else? or just wait till your at the resort to get your luggage?

Thanks

Scott

Sea-Tac--you will need to claim your luggage and go thru Customs if you are using private transportation. You'll check your bags at the airport.

Going from Port Canaveral to Animal Kingdom Lodge--you'll claim your luggage in the terminal and go thru Customs, then take the bags to the bus. They will ride under the bus with you to AKL. Good Luck......sorry, we had a horrible experience on our last AKL trip. We were put on a bus that went to 6 resorts, and of course we were the last.

So, if I understand this correctly...

I am on the Alaska cruise next week that starts in Seattle but ends in Vancouver. If I want to do on board check in (flying Delta) I can only do it if I am using DCL transfers back to the Vancouver airport? And in that case, my luggage would go directly from outside my stateroom the night before and I would not have to see it again until I land at my home airport? LOL This could be reason to pay the extra for DCL airport transfers. LOL Seriously, the idea of not having to find all our luggage before customs and then drag it all to the airport and then check it all in at the airport.... totally worth the money.

Is that also true for Port of LA? I'm on a Disney transport & it would be great to have my bags go from outside my stateroom to my destination airport
