Right now we're booked in a POR royal room with free dining.
Normally, I'd be very happy with this. We typically stay moderate and have young children who don't sleep in and, in addition don't nap or handle sleep deprivation well. Accordingly, on previous stays, we've never stayed late enough in the parks to watch the evening shows.
This trip, however, is a very special one with extended family, and everyone (including us) wants to watch Wishes and Illuminations. But I don't want to be dragging super tired kids onto packed buses well past their bedtimes (and then have to suffer through cranky/fussy behavior for days to follow).
The Poly appeals to us, in part, because we'll be renting a double stroller and, in the event the kids fall asleep in it while we're in a park late, we can simply roll them back to our room in the stroller without having to wake them up.
I also love the idea of taking the Monorail back to the resort (for a mid-afternoon break) instead of waiting for busses.
But then I keep reading reports about the rooms at the Poly being dark, dank, and musty (as well as just generally worn around the edges). In contrast, the rooms at POR have been newly refurbished (I realize the POR rooms are smaller, but we've never had a problem with the size of moderate rooms).
We can afford the Poly and value its convenience (as explained above) but, given the huge difference in price compared to POR, I know I'd have major buyer's remorse if the rooms aren't any nicer (or, perhaps, not even as nice) than the newly refurbised rooms at POR.
(And if you're wondering how we'd ever know the diffierence, some of our extended family is staying at POR and we'll likely visit the resort on our non-park day, as we plan to take the boat there after visiting DTD).
So, to switch to Poly, I need to be convinced that the difference in price versus POR is buying us more than simply location (as important as location is).
