Our internet sucks so bad everything is always slow. We're looking to sign up for Fios, now, but the internet is so slow the page sleeps timing out!

I had a number of firsts yesterday. I am not very interested in watching sports and my interest in the Olympics was pretty much confined to checking the medal tables a couple of times a day. Soccer is not exactly my sport either. If Graham watches soccer on TV, I leave the room. Still, about a week ago it sunk in that this is probably the only time in my lifetime that I have the Olympics pretty much on my doorstep. Most of the Olympics is taking place in London, but some of the soccer matches are played right here in Manchester. Graham had been to two of the men's preliminary matches and was wowed by the atmosphere. I came around to the idea that I would regret it if I did not make the effort to attend at least one Olympic event. So we discussed on Tuesday that we should try to get tickets for the women's soccer semi final that was played here. I did not really rate our chances, but on Wednesday Graham managed to get tickets for the match yesterday at a very good price.

We watched the semi final between USA and Canada. To my immense surprise I really enjoyed it. The first half was more about the acrobatic ability of some of the players than the soccer. There were all kinds of interesting tumbles and somersaults. At some stage I wondered if they were thinking that they had entered a gymnastics event. When Canada scored, this came completely out of the blue. The second half was complete edge of the seat stuff. The goals came hard and fast and soon the two teams were tied at 3:3. The game went into overtime and it looked like this would go to penalties. In the last minute of stoppage time after the extra time had been played, USA scored another goal and ended up winning.

I had an amazing evening and the atmosphere was spectacular even though the stadium was only about a third full. I am so glad that I went.

I'm not much into the Olympics either but how cool was that you were able to attend one of the competitions.:cool1:

Good morning Js & Ks! :wave2: On my way out the door for the airport! :goodvibes

Thanks - I'm afraid there isn't much to do where I'll be. I have the weekend off so maybe I'll get the chance to go exploring the Ozarks! :thumbsup2

...wow, that's a long business trip...

Most of the trips I've made for this particular Study have been 8 to 16 days. They usually put us in hotels that have kitchens (or at least kitchenettes!) so we have some of the comforts of home! ;)

Carry on!! :joker:
