City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

Hilarious! Ah, they should've let it go....it fits with the character! Who knew that those Mr. Potatohead costumes actually worked, ie. had interchangeable parts. Kinda cool actually.

I know! I thought they should leave him, too! I supposed they didn't have the authority to ad lib. It is really cool that the parts do come off - they could really work with that one.

Loved the update, Lauren! Cute room - looks like they stole their kitchenette design from DVC!:goodvibes The room is actually bigger than I expected for downtown NY.

I'm not sure I would go for Indian food, although we had friends from India when I was a child and I liked her cooking. Since I've grown up, I haven't really cared for Moroccan or African spices, so I have a feeling Indian would taste like that. I don't like the yellow curry for sure.

Crazy cab ride! I think it makes the experience authentic, right?:rotfl:

I'm so happy you got to see Wicked! It is truly amazing! I have the soundtrack, and I love Defying Gravity, too! I think it made me cry the first few times I listened to it in the car. I had to stop playing it while driving.

Looking forward to your next story - sounds like maybe you slept in?

Okay, not so bad-didn't take me as long as I thought! Thank you for the links. :thumbsup2

I LOVE reading about the first impressions of NYC! It brings me back to my first copule times here and the awe I had at some things. Now it's just "normal" and when we visit the rest of the nation we are in awe. :lmao:

This one picture shows the first of many pigeons we would see throughout our trip. My mom called them “rats with wings” which I have to say is very accurate.

That's what I call them too! They can be a bit much sometimes, can't they?

There was one interesting thing that I didn’t take a picture of. There was a man out in the street (a safe part) that was wearing only underwear and playing the guitar. If you looked at him straight on, it didn’t look like he was wearing anything at all.

In case no one else commented on this, that is the Naked Cowboy. They even sell postcards of him. :rotfl: And apparently, though I haven't seen him yet, there is now also a Naked Indian.

Glad to hear the ladies enjoyed Wicked! The set is truly incredible, and the scene changes alone are amazing. The hotel looks really nice too! Many NYC hotels, even the expensive ones, aren't that great and are reallyyyyy tiny. Glad to see the Manhattan Club is a good one!

I'm here and by the looks of it very behind! Thanks for the message, I've been away from the DIS for a bit so it was a nice surprise to find! I'll type as I read along. Nice family picture in the intro. I like the Senior trip title!

That building that Lauren liked is a movie theatre and the rest of it is a hotel! Good job on the trip plan. I love the not the Jersey Penn station reminder. Patsy's is really famous here, I have never been but it supposed to be really good! It's also in the Muppets take Manhattan!

Tell Lauren not to feel bad about saying no to the rent a bike people, there has been an explosion of these businesses in the city and frankly I think they are more annoying than the pigeons! Central Park! I love it there to me it's a peaceful place in the middle of all the craziness. Dh also proposed to me there so it's pretty special to me!

Aren't the M&M store and Toys R Us amazing?!?! Did they get to visit the Disney store? Fluffy's is right around the corner from my job! I should have given you my number to pass along to Judy we could have met! I forgot...next time!

Oh yeah and those Mickey and Minnie mouses freak me out! I know tourists love them but I'm just concerned about who is inside those costumes. The just buy those costumes and then go out taking pictures with people, then they ask people for a tip in the end. :confused3

That Indian food looked really good yum! I have yet to see Wicked, I guess its that I live here I can go when I want mentality but now I'm motivated! I have seen Phantom and loved it!

Great job on the TR so far Lauren can't wait to read more!

Now that I'm all caught up, I'll be keeping an eye out for Judys!

Really, you take a cab every day?

Ummmmm...no. But I walk six blocks from the train to my office and the cabs do NOT stop at corners, blow red lights, etc. It's like taking your life in your own hand. And when I do have to take a cab from the office to my bosses apartment, I am petrified being in a cab with the morons who drive them.

Okay Glenn you can do another Judy sighting Oh I mean update:lmao:I am home for now so am waiting anxiously!!If you like I will give you my schedule so you lnow when to post!!!;):rotfl2:

Sorry for the delay in posting another update Rosie. A couple of reasons why -- my photopass deadline in fast approaching, so I've been trying to work on the edits of those in my free time (you probably know how insufferably s-l-o-w that photopass website is :faint:); also, we've been hosting a short-term (3 week) French exchange student so have been trying to get her around to visit different things in the area.

If you give me your schedule I'll be sure to post while you're at work. ;)

I know! I thought they should leave him, too! I supposed they didn't have the authority to ad lib. It is really cool that the parts do come off - they could really work with that one.

I don't think I've ever seen it where they've kind of "changed him up" from how you normally see im.

Loved the update, Lauren! Cute room - looks like they stole their kitchenette design from DVC!:goodvibes The room is actually bigger than I expected for downtown NY.

I think they got a great room, at a great location in the city. I don't think they really used the kitchenette much, but that's okay.

I'm not sure I would go for Indian food, although we had friends from India when I was a child and I liked her cooking. Since I've grown up, I haven't really cared for Moroccan or African spices, so I have a feeling Indian would taste like that. I don't like the yellow curry for sure.

If you know you don't like the curry, then yeah, you might not like some of it. Maybe try tandoori chicken though, it's completely different than a curry.

Crazy cab ride! I think it makes the experience authentic, right?:rotfl:

That's what I thought too!

I'm so happy you got to see Wicked! It is truly amazing! I have the soundtrack, and I love Defying Gravity, too! I think it made me cry the first few times I listened to it in the car. I had to stop playing it while driving.

She absolutely loved it. I'm surprised she didn't come home with the soundtrack.

Looking forward to your next story - sounds like maybe you slept in?

Well...you're going to have to wait and read about it.

Boo, saw you had just posted and I knew I was finally going to win a Judy sighting.................

I know it isn't an official update, but since Rosie would do it.........

0 Judy's!!! :goodvibes

19 pages. That's what I get for being late.

19 or 91, it’s all good! :welcome: Brook!!

I've got coffee, I've got some time....see you in a bit. :goodvibes

:surfweb:

Perfect!

Okay, not so bad-didn't take me as long as I thought! Thank you for the links. :thumbsup2

You’re welcome. Easy peasy.

I LOVE reading about the first impressions of NYC! It brings me back to my first copule times here and the awe I had at some things. Now it's just "normal" and when we visit the rest of the nation we are in awe. :lmao:

I figured that you and a few other New Yorkers on here would love reading this….it’s always such a neat perspective to hear someone describe their first impressions of something you’re used to everyday.

That's what I call them too! They can be a bit much sometimes, can't they?

Yeah, tough city birds.

In case no one else commented on this, that is the Naked Cowboy. They even sell postcards of him. :rotfl: And apparently, though I haven't seen him yet, there is now also a Naked Indian.

Yes, several people commented. I knew who it was but liked the way she wrote it, from the perspective of someone who didn’t expect to see that.

I didn’t know there was a Naked Indian, but since reading your post I just saw him on TMZ the other day….apparently he and Naked Cowboy aren’t getting along. One or the other of them has said that the other is “just out for publicity”. Ah, duh.

They loved Wicked, and loved the hotel, especially the location so that they could get all over that city in the short time they spent there.

I'm here and by the looks of it very behind! Thanks for the message, I've been away from the DIS for a bit so it was a nice surprise to find! I'll type as I read along. Nice family picture in the intro. I like the Senior trip title!
:welcome: Bicki! I’m glad you’re back, and have joined the thread!

That building that Lauren liked is a movie theatre and the rest of it is a hotel! Good job on the trip plan. I love the not the Jersey Penn station reminder.
Thanks. I haven’t taken the train but when I was looking at the stops I was afraid they might get confused…I wasn’t sure how obvious it would be when they were riding it.

Patsy's is really famous here, I have never been but it supposed to be really good! It's also in the Muppets take Manhattan!
Wow, in the movie huh? I’ll tell them. They really enjoyed that meal, I’ve heard about it a few times since.

Aw, how sweet. (Referring to the proposal, not the rent-a-bike people comment. As if there could be confusion there.)

Aren't the M&M store and Toys R Us amazing?!?! Did they get to visit the Disney store? Fluffy's is right around the corner from my job! I should have given you my number to pass along to Judy we could have met! I forgot...next time!
No, they didn’t get to the Disney Store. Okay, next time.

Oh yeah and those Mickey and Minnie mouses freak me out! I know tourists love them but I'm just concerned about who is inside those costumes. The just buy those costumes and then go out taking pictures with people, then they ask people for a tip in the end. :confused3
I agree. A little freaky. Somebody else mentioned that they hit you up for tips if you get your picture with them, I didn’t realize that. Guess I’m naïve.

That Indian food looked really good yum! I have yet to see Wicked, I guess its that I live here I can go when I want mentality but now I'm motivated! I have seen Phantom and loved it!
I know what you mean about attractions that are nearby, but you never get to. So, you’re just going to have to schedule it.

Great job on the TR so far Lauren can't wait to read more!

Now that I'm all caught up, I'll be keeping an eye out for Judys!

Thank you. Yep, keep an eye out!

:hyper:Still waiting !!!!!popcorn::

I know, I know. Lauren has some more written, but I have to get all of the pictures inserted at the right spots….not sure when I’ll get to it at this moment.

Okay, I see. So you have to be aware of your surroundings and ready to jump, dash, or dodge. Be careful!

Boo, saw you had just posted and I knew I was finally going to win a Judy sighting.................

I know it isn't an official update, but since Rosie would do it.........

0 Judy's!!! :goodvibes

That's your moral compass? Well come to think of it, I have seen some pole dancing pictures of you.

We went to a nearby local attraction, Longwood Gardens, a few days ago and I took some pictures on my iPhone. I played around with them on Instagram, put them into a couple of collage's and....I think they turned out pretty nice. Thought you'd like to see.
