Stopping to Smell the roses...literally!

I am waiting for my little bit of Disney to pop up out of the ground.
About 5 years ago I picked some of the dead heads off a few marigolds at WDW. I let them dry out and planted the seeds the following year. Now every year since then I pick the deadheads and put them in a paper bag in the garage over the winter and plant them in the spring.
Evey time I go out to my front walk I see a little bit of Disneyworld in my garden
Marigolds are about the only flowers that will go to seed from the dried flowers, otherwise I would be picking more dead flowers.lol

I love seeing these pics, they make me happy! Especially since its ugly and rainy outside right now. I'm getting ready to plant in my front yard and I was going to plant iceberg roses along a small fence line and now I want to see if I can order the Disneyland roses instead!!! Too late for bulbs from Jackson and Perkins, but maybe my local nursery can order them in gallon pots?

:flower3: :rose::flower::daisy: "Cultivating the Magic" Guided Tour :daisy::flower::rose: :flower3:

:flower3: :rose::flower::daisy: This summer DL is going to have a new guided tour about horticulture. :daisy::flower::rose: :flower3:

From MP's Weekly Update (April 23 - 29):
http://www.mouseplanet.com/9952/Disneyland_Resort_Update

"…A new guided tour called Cultivating the Magic debuts at Disneyland this summer, and cast
members begin testing the two-hour tour next weekend. The tour is said to include rides on
both the Jungle Cruise and Storybook Land Canal Boats, and focuses on the use of horticulture
to convey the theme and story of each land. We don't yet have any information on when
public tours begin, or how much they might cost."

It’s so out of the ordinary for me to be posting photos – especially flower photos – from any month that’s not part of the Halloween Time or Holiday seasons. To be honest, I have not been to Disneyland outside of those two seasons since probably 1995!! I’m an Autumn and Winter-sort of person, all the way!

But…I forced myself to go to DLR on June 9th to be part of the AP preview for Cars Land and Buena Vista Street! With that came some flower pictures!

The vibrant colors of the flowers during this time of year are so amazing! I’m so used to seeing the Floral Mickey in Fall or holiday tones – it was so weird for me to see it in pinkish-purple shades!

In fact, even though my heart belongs to the DLR holiday season and then to Halloween Time as a close second, I sort of wish that I went more often during the other months of the year, simply because the flowers are so pretty! I prefer the Fall and Winter seasons more, but I think the flowers are prettier in Spring and Summer!

Stunning pictures!!!

Karen -

:goodvibes I think there are soooo many beautiful photos in this thread. What's really interesting is the variety of flowers all around DLR. The photos that everyone has shared have really brought them to light.

:flower3::flower3:

Has anyone read Mary Jo's recent blog about the DL Cultivating the Magic tour that she did? It's very informative!

So...I am copying my post from last night to this page in hopes that it will prompt more people to come out of hiding and share their beautiful botanical DLR photos too (sometimes, seeing pictures from someone else will compel others to post)!

Is there anyone else out there who has taken some flower/plant pictures since Cars Land and Buena Vista Street have been open (like the ones below)?

And...is there anyone else out there (like myself!) who takes photos of interesting (non-Disney) flowers and plants when they are out and about, running daily errands? If so, we should start a separate non-Disney photo thread over in the DL Community section for all the 'other' flower pictures!

Is there anyone else who has been to DLR in the last couple of months and taken photos of the flowers? I know I missed out on a lot of flowers when I was there on June 9th, but what I saw was just gorgeous.

Does anyone have anything from Pixie Hollow? From A Bug's Land? Anywhere?

If the Christmas Superthread was on Page 7 of this forum :-)scared1:), there's no telling where this flower/plant thread ended up!:scared1:

So...it's time to bump it, but I also realized that the thread really needs to be moved over to the DL Community section, as it doesn't have to do with planning. (The straight photo sharing/non-planning threads go in the DL Community section.) I realize it may be the kiss of death for us, but it's also possible that we may pick up a whole new/different audience over there. Let's see what happens!

Wow! What a great idea! My wife seems to be literally "stopping to smell the roses" everywhere we go. She will so get a kick out of this. Thanks for the info :thumbsup2

I saw these beautiful roses outside the Alice and Wonderland ride... what awesome theming! They look like they are white roses that someone stopped in the midle of painting red!
032.jpg

033-1.jpg

I wanted to know what type of rose they were (so I can plant some!) so I cashed in one one of those obscure Disneyland facts that you have heard about, but never tried. I read in a book once that at City hall, they have a guide that tells you exactly what is planted where. Well, they do!
034.jpg

And they even gave me a private room in City Hall to glance it over
035.jpg

(forgive my camelback on the table!)
The guide is broken down by land, and then by attraction, and lists exactly what is planted where! So awesome! I found that these roses are clled scentimentl. (I'm new to the whole landscaping and gardening thing!)

Since seeing those beautiful roses, and thinking of how many people probably walk right past without noticing, I've been paying more attention to the plants, and encouraging my kids to do the same.
My DD LOVED the marigolds out at DCA
012.jpg

And I LOVE these flowers, called foxgloves, but came home and googled them, only to find they are highly toxic, also known as Dead Man's Bells. The flowers, seeds, roots, leaves, everything is poisonous, and can lead to hallucinations and heart problems. (FYI, they are planted ALL over the place- this picture was taken ouside the Matterhorn, there is a BIG bed of them at Bugs Land in DCA.

Anyone else want to share some landscaping pics?
