Windsor Hills ...again.

Plane tickets are booked so our dates are now final. I have requested quotes from Windsor Hills for a stay from April 25th to May 12th and get prices ranging from 4800 to 2500 for our stay including taxes.

Most homes however are on the higher end. I am thinking of asking a few if they'd consider lowering to 3000 US but is this even a good price (for a 5 or 6 bedroom villa)?

I have briefly looked at Emerald Island and Windsor Palms and the prices appear much better but they are before taxes so I am thinking I would end up at 2500 anyways.

It's out first and probably only time in Florida. I don't need the cheapest price but I want a reasonable price and am nervous of paying such a big amount and end up in a bad location, bad house or worse just left with nothing.

You have probably noticed a BIG discrepancy in the prices from one website to another, as well as from one vacation home to another, even in the same resort. If you can get a 5/6 bedroom house at WH for $2500... snap it up!!! Now.

First, I am sure you have done the math. If you stay is 14 nights, you are paying just under $180/night. Seems like a lot, but you have the equivalent space of 5 (or 6) hotel rooms PLUS the convenience of living space, kitchen and your private lanai and pool. And resort amenities such as weight room, resort pool, etc. That is a killer deal, even at a higher price.

We have stayed at WH and WP, and consider ourselves way too spoiled to ever consider a hotel room, even on WDW property. Both of these resprts have great locations, Emerald Isle not bad, either from what I can tell on the map. Top pick is definitely WH, but WP is lovely, too. You'd certainly not regret either.

If you haven't tried vrbo.com to search for a price, make sure you do. We have done all of our booking through this site and never experienced a problem, nor a disappointment. Seriously, though, if you have snagged a 5 BR place for $2500, inc taxes, you have really scored.

The major difference in prices between houses of same space in the same resort is the decor. Some owners have put a lot into colour schemes, fancier furnishings, and extras like games rooms. Our favourite rental is very basic but has absolutely everything we need. The basic colour scheme on the walls doesn't bother us, nor do we care about elaborate gaming systems, pool tables, etc. We want space, comfort, and location!

We're going in Oct/Nov and staying 17 - 18 nights and I expect to pay mid 3000s - 4000ish . That's my aim-for price anyway. We've stayed at both WH and Emerald Island and either one is great. As was said above if you can get $2500 then go for it. My grandkids do care about the game room and game systems/electronics so I'm a little more picky this time.
We don't usually use the community facilities at all when we stay in a pool home so it doesn't really matter which resort we stay at, we like Emerald Island as much as WH.

I will be staying in a 5BDRM villa in Indian Creek starting Thursday. It looks VERY nice on the website. It's going to run me $1000 for the 6 nights. When I get back I can let you know how it is and how close to the parks it is.

Indian Creek is basically the same distance as Windsor Hills to the parks, maybe a minute more. Using Sherberth Rd can get you to the AK parking lot in 7 min. or less. MK would be 12 min or so.

Crestwyn Bay is adjacent to Windsor Hills. It has 2 story townhomes (if that's a problem)

I've found the prices to be lower across the board there. Maybe because it's not as hot a ticket as WH

This makes me happy to read as we'll be staying in a WH villa in about a week and I've never stayed off property before. Was worried I'll miss the magic, but will probably be so happy to save money that a new kind of magic will pop up from the happiness I feel from $aving$.

We rented a 5 bedroom, 4 bath pool home (traveled with extended family...12 of us) with a air hockey game and ping pong table in the garage (game room). One of the kid's rooms had a gaming system (I don't remember which one). It was located in Indian Creek and the area was nice. The house had 2 master suites and the 3rd bedroom had a bathroom right next to it and the 4th and 5th bedrooms (kids) shared a bathroom.

We found it on homeaway.com. Getting to the parks was easy by taking Sherbeth road. We went June 16 - 23 and paid $1275. The owners lived in the UK but were great to work with and they had a management company nearby to take care of any issues we had.

If you find a house or several that you really like, contact the owners and see if they will lower the price. If they really want to rent it out, they might work with you. Especially since you are there for over 2 weeks.

I am so glad I have been reading this thread-we have run out of points for next year through DVC and we don't want to borrow from 2014 so we are getting an excellent rate over Spring Break 2013 (just 3 days) and I can't wait! Have never stayed off property but this place looks fantastic!

Try this website. "Olivia's Dream Villa". We are renting from them in October. The place got great reviews and they have been wonderful to work with.

Cost about $1100 a week for peak season.
