Welcome to my latest (and questionably greatest!) Trip Report! ;) If you have read any of my previous TRs then you may be a bit surprised by what you find unravel in this particular TR! I am obsessive when it comes to Disney and I tend to plan every single waking moment. My DH even comments on the times I write down and will ask when we have the bathroom breaks scheduled…. I’m not that bad! :rolleyes1 The times, I tell him, allows me to know if what I have planned is feasible!

On our trip last year we had plans that changed constantly and sometimes resulted in meltdowns. In March, I accompanied my daughter to WDW with her high school band. That trip was one which I had no planning to do at all…I just followed the crowd. I had just begun planning the July trip and I had marked many things down that were “must-dos”! As July inched closer and closer, the trials and tribulations that surrounded me over the last 4 months began to really drag me down and I knew that more than anything I really just needed a get-a-way that allowed me to enjoy life and my family. I believe in my PTR I even commented that I was making plans but that I may for-go everything…well guess what?! For the most part none of the plans I started with remained. Oh, some things were basically the same and some ADRs were kept while others were cancelled or changed. But overall, we simply went where the magic led us!

It was a relaxing trip and a balm for the soul! At one point DS18 made the comment that he had never seen me “like this”! LOL That came on Day 1 when we did a few things, Keith made a suggestion and I said “Whatever, as long as we make our ADR tonight!”. And that was basically how the whole trip went! But you must read on to see and believe—because seeing is believing and I have pictures to prove that we really did tour by the seat of our pants! All of this non-stressful touring could be a result of this being my 5th trip in 4 years so I don’t feel like we must do every little thing or we will be missing out. Whatever the reason, I highly suggest it! So now before I give away the entire TR, let me make some introductions!!

First, the when: July 7- July 14, 2012

Second, the where: Port Orleans French Quarter!

Third, the Who:

I will begin with my children! Well two of the three. We have one that left June 1st for Australia and is currently living the life of a young 23 year old with no obligations….nah, I am not jealous at all!!!

This is a picture of our three kiddos! Evan (left) is the one on the other side of the world, Madison is DD16 and Chris (right) is DS18.

That is from his senior portrait session....hard to believe how fast kids grow up!! :sad2:

And then there is my DH—Keith (with me!!).

IMG_3628.jpg

Keith has been (as I state quiet often) a Disney “hater” and basically refused to even consider going to Disney. He relented in 2010 when the kids wouldn’t stop talking about our March 2009 trip. He did recognize that Disney knows how to do things right and this has resulted in him tagging along in 2011 and suggesting this trip. I am by no means suggesting he is a Disney lover as I am but he has discovered a few things he really enjoys…and a few things he does not!!

Finally, we have me, Tisa…I love all things Disney and I get very giddy and overzealous when talking about WDW! I try really hard to not give more information to those who ask for advice and suggestions. Sometimes I fail miserably and have to reign my joy in to avoid freaking others out!! :rolleyes1 As I said this trip was a much needed break. I definitely found moments where I thought to myself that I wish I could bottle up the peace and break it open back home!

Along the way, I have some comments and tidbits from a book I had been reading and thought I would get some pictures and add a little something different into my TR. I have done several and in some ways, I feel like I just report the same old stuff. The book is :"The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World” by Susan Veness. Anytime I reference this book I will highlight it in blue since I want to be sure I am not taking credit for things I have not written! As I was reading this book over the last few weeks leading up to the trip, I learned and saw so much that really made me go “Wow!”. It adds a new appreciation to the magic and I highly recommend the book if you are interested in the little things. Since I chose to not lug the book with me into the parks, I didn’t get pictures of all of the things I was wowed by but I did capture some! So I hope you will enjoy that part of the TR…a little side trip if you will!!

Well, that is it for my intro…I guess that leads us to the next post: DEPARTURE DAY!!!

Welcome!!! :yay: Slowing down was really a great way to tour! And a lot of it was slowing down on the planning and going by the seat of our pants.

Joining in! I can't wait to hear all about it!

Welcome!!! I am so glad you are reading along again!! :woohoo:

Yea! It's started!! You knew I'd be here!!!

I am obsessive when it comes to Disney and I tend to plan every single waking moment. My DH even comments on the times I write down and will ask when we have the bathroom breaks scheduled….
I see absolutely nothing wrong with this! :lmao:

For the most part none of the plans I started with remained. Oh, some things were basically the same and some ADRs were kept while others were cancelled or changed. But overall, we simply went where the magic led us!
As you know from my last trip report, our most recent trip had almost no planning other than where we would go each day and even that was interrupted. I'll admit that there is SOME value in going where the mood takes you (DO NOT tell DW I said that!! :rotfl2:) but it just seems that you get more done if you at least have an idea of where you're going and what you'll be doing! Maybe it's just me? :confused3

I'm looking forward to your TR. I'll be taking notes on non-planning vacations; not that I'll remember them on our next trip though! :sad2:

Yea!! Was waiting for this!! So sorry your trip is over - they go so doggone fast! But happy to read all about it here!

I'm glad someone agrees with me!!

My lips will be sealed and DW will never know! I totally agree about the planning and past experiences resulting in missing out on things are probably what shapd me into the mega planner I am! In actuality I missed out on many, many things I had really wanted to do. But in the end, for this trip at least, this slow down, following our moods touring was what I needed and in the end missing those things wasn't as huge of a disappointment as it could have been!

Yea!! Was waiting for this!! So sorry your trip is over - they go so doggone fast! But happy to read all about it here!

Hooray! Glad you found the TR! :yay: Why do trips have to go so fast!?!? Keith and I were talking last night how this time last week the trip was half-way over and now here we are a week later! Everything moves way too doggone fast!! :guilty: I am glad I can relive the trip through the TR!

I'm here!

I fell terribly behind on your last TR and I'm glad i'm able to catch this one right from the start:goodvibes

I can't wait to hear all about it!

Welcome!!!! Hopefully soon you will get an update!! :goodvibes

Welcome!! :yay: I tend to move slowly so hopefully you will not fall behind on this one! I know how it is though because I have fallen behind on several I am reading right now!

Well since I pretty much stalked all of your other trip reports I thought I would join in on this one:rotfl2: Can't wait for the updates!!

We were there the same week you were, and also staying at POFQ! Can't wait to read your report (and maybe see if we pop up in the background of any of your photos)!

Welcome!! That is so awesome you were there at the same time!! I took thousands of POFQ pics!! You may get bored with those or else feel like you're back "home"!! :rotfl: I'm trying to recall how many I have people in... I'll also be interested in your take on the buses! :rolleyes1

For weeks Keith and I had been discussing the trip and “plans”. I had informed him many times that we were to leave by 4:30am! He would tell me 8am and I would inform him NO! 4:30am. If he isn't ready at 4:30 then we will just see him in Orlando!! :rotfl: Well guess what time we left? Yep, 4:30am!!

The trip was set for July 7-14 but not originally. Originally we were to go July 15-20. Many changes to the trip occurred over a three month period that resulted in a longer stay and moving the trip up a week and at one point we thought it would not happen but in the end all was good!. Madison’s high school soccer team had mandatory soccer camp and we found out the dates after the trip was reserved. After much discussion we chose to move it up one week and the people at Disney were awesome!!

We were utilizing the Disney military salute tickets and room discounts. Our original week had only one resort available: Caribbean Beach. Keith wanted Port Orleans due to the boat to DTD but this wasn’t in the cards. That is until I called to see about moving the trip up a week and decided to inquire on the availability of Port Orleans. They had availability at POFQ with a Garden View! Score! :goodvibes I was excited because I knew Keith would be happy.

Oh, and here is a picture of our tickets…I am glad I took this picture because these disappear mid-week! :sad2:

Well, let’s get back to departure day! It is 4am and we are loading the car trunk in the dark (well by the light of the carport) when guess who pulls up?! A policeman! He was just checking to be sure that the loading of the car was legit, wished us a happy and safe vacation and went on his way! This made us feel very safe to know that we are being watched! At least if the bad guys came hopefully the police would be there….I hope anyway!!

We are on the road by 4:40am. This time suits me perfectly! I just want to be in Orlando by 5pm!

A full moon was beginning to call it a night (or day???)!

IMG254.jpg

We head south and decide we want to go a different route. We do not care for HWY 98 once we cross into Alabama (going through Wilmer and Semmes). We always get stuck behind someone on the two-lane portion and we really just felt like seeing something a little different. Our GPS did not like this change of events and tried redirecting us for miles and miles!! Somewhere around Laurel, MS, the sun begins to rise….

IMG263.jpg

As we got to Waynesville, MS we made a discovery (not like we didn’t know this but it struck us) that there is a lot of non-utilized land! We were in some rural areas and it was nice not to see concrete and buildings everywhere!

Our little detour didn’t take much longer and it was an added adventure to our vacation!

We eventually begin our journey towards Mobile and soon we are headed west in I-10!

The tunnel!!

IMG275.jpg

A sleepy Madison is excited regardless of the hour! (It is 8am by this time)

IMG276.jpg

We get through the tunnel and pass the USS Alabama:

IMG278.jpg

IMG280.jpg

This is the stretch that we spend the majority of our travel! We ride and ride and ride and then we finally are going through the toll booths! Our hotel for the night was in Kissimmee and had I known that I would take $9 :scared1: to go through the tolls I would have rented a horse and buggy!! Tolls are ridiculous!! :sad2: I’ll avoid that soap box though….

Finally we get to the hotel and vow to not venture on that stretch again!

Our hotel for the night may look familiar to those that read my TR from March.

IMG_0120.jpg

Only the hotel is no longer Clarion Maingate but now Comfort Inn Maingate. I liked it in March and for a one night stay I felt it would be perfect…plus I got a great deal on the room charge!! A few pictures of the room:

Our view isn't as cool as I had in March (of the four parks) since we were on the opposite side but it was still fine:

IMG_0006.jpg

The bedding is slightly different with the hotel change but overall the hotel is no different. We relax and nap briefly and then we get ready for our first ADR! We are headed to the Beach Club Resort!! Which begins what you guys are really reading for right!?

I don't know what it is but I love going through the tunnel in Mobile anytime we go to Florida. It's just so fun!

The hotel for the night looks very nice! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to hear about the 1st ADR of the trip.

Yay! You're almost there!!

My GPS takes it really personally when I choose a route different from the one he chooses. I call him Richard because I can give him an inappropriate nickname when he makes me mad :lmao:

Of course you got your way! Keith may not love Disney, but he's not stupid! :thumbsup2

Tagging along on your journey!! Coming from central TX, getting to the tunnel is a great feeling!!

I am glad you showed a picture of the military tickets! Our Sept. trip just took a big change today, when we decided to enroll my older grandson, (7), in a YES class and bought 8 day YES hoppers, instead of 4 day military tickets.

Looking forward to more!
