I don't know a word of Japanese! - A COMPLETED TR!

OK... So, today... :faint:

Actually it was a really good day, but to sum it up in a few words for those in a rush - It was really hot and sticky, my feet and calves are killing me, I think I have heat rash on my lower legs and a sunburn... :rotfl:

We got up at 7am this morning and decided we were going to start the day at the Imperial Palace. Using Hyperdia we found how to get there and set off. The train lines are easy enough to work out, so long as you know which line you're after and which station.

I had read somewhere that the Imperial Palace is open to the public on public holidays, which today was supposed to be :confused3 but it wasn't open, so we walked all over the East Gardens - they are amazing!

We bought some iceblocks from one of the rest houses in the parks and they were awesome - sort of like sunny boys if you know what they are, but softer so you could bite them if you wanted to.

Just before 12 we decided we were getting hungry, so we headed out of the park along some random street and into some random building :rotfl: and decided to eat at a little restaurant called Leaf Kitchen (or was it Kitchen Leaf?) basically you got some meat, some garlic, some onion in a spicy sauce, some kimchi and some other spicy something or other and wrap it in lettuce and eat it. I ate it with just the pork, garlic and a little of the spicy onion and it was pretty damn tasty!

FB_IMG_13424086627825519.jpg

We then decided that it was early enough to try tackling Ueno Park, so we hopped on the Yamanote line and made our way there.

We walked around the park for a little bit, they had some street vendors selling food, as well as a few market stalls. We also spend the 600Y each to go into the zoo. For 600Y it's actually a pretty good zoo - not so much for the animals, but you can get pretty close to them, which is good for pics. :p

For those who have read Lurkyloo's TR - she mentions (and shows pics) a lake in the middle of Ueno park, which is sort of plain and bare, well this is what it looks like in summer:

DSC_0190.jpg

We also saw a shrine while there;

By this time we decided we were pretty tired, so we headed back to CST for a bit of a rest.

We annointed our burns, bandaged our blisters and soaked our feet for maybe 2 hours. :rotfl: Then we decided to venture out for dinner.

We just walked from CST to find dinner, basically we just headed towards the lights. We wandered the streets for probably over an hour or more trying to decide where we should try and eventually settled on a place (I have photos, I just haven't taken them off the camera yet...)

This place was great, good big servings and my meal was only 450Y and I think DH's 2 bowls was 620Y. They only had water for drinking, which would usually be a bad thing, but I think we were pretty dehydrated that we didn't mind... We have decided that if we can't decide where to eat during the week, we'll just come back to this place. :thumbsup2

After our meal we headed into an arcade - people are allowed to smoke in these places, so they smell terrible, and music is blasted out of every machine, so they sound terrible too, but it was fun. We had a go on 3 machines - one of those sorta claw machines :confused3, kind of a virtual reality pod like thing, and something we thought was a poker machine (slot machine) but sorta ended up being a little like a pin ball machine... We really had no idea how any of the machines worked, we just pushed random buttons and got excited when it starting making noises, and flashing lights... :lmao:

We also got some footage of people who know what they're doing, those people are nuts!! :rotfl2: (I will post it, you just need to be patient with me!)

After a while of wandering around and getting lost we headed back to CST. Like I said at the beginning, I'm pretty sore, but it sure was worth it!

Now I better get some sleep, DISNEYLAND TOMORROW!!! :cool1:

I am following along with keen interest, those food places sound good - I bought our tix on Sunday - we are def going in April :cool1:

I am hoping for milder weather, it sounds like you are melting! :beach:

Our weather today wasn't as bad, a bit of cloud cover rolled over and there has been a pretty nice breeze. If I was at home I'd be more then happy with this weather, but because we're out constantly walking and in the elements it gets a bit rough...

OK, I'm going to quickly go through my pics from today and load a few good ones on PB so you can see what we got up to today! :yay:

Omg your Korean BBQ looks so yummy. I am on the diet of my life right now because I'm leaving for Japan in about 6 weeks and as you've probably noticed, everyone and everything there is tiny! Seriously drooling on my keyboard right now . . .

Hahaha my DH and I are also the Japan trip diet! We both drooled when we saw the Korean BBQ pics too!!

Great report so far!!! Can't wait to see and read about TDL!! How's the Stitch Merchandise there? :-)

Japanese gardens, architecture, food porn and animals. What more could you ask for? :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your TDL pics and I hope you enjoy yourself; irrespective of weather.

Thanks, we're having such a great time!

To be honest I don't think the merchandise is as good here as it is at DLR or WDW, there's definitely different stuff, but not as much variety as the US counterparts. It also seems more expensive :confused3

Yeah everyone and everything is tiny over here, including the meal portions, so it probably wouldn't hurt getting used to eating less :lmao: We've almost been snacking all day long.

OK, I know last night I said I was just organising my pics and then I was going to update, and that didn't happen, but this time hopefully it will happen. I want to try and keep these updates umm... up to date  because I've been known to take over a year to complete a TR before :rolleyes1 and I don't want that to happen or I forget everything...

Phew, my photos are taking forever to transfer onto my computer, I thought I took a lot yesterday (About 800) but today I took just under 1300...
:faint:

Ok, I thought I posted something this morning, but it obviously didn't go through - I'm thinking too many pictures. I'll post it again when I get home tonight

During the night, for some reason my phone refused to charge, :headache: which meant the alarm didn’t go off and we slept in until around 7:30. Also because my phone was flat we didn’t have hyperdia to help us find how to get to Disneyland… I knew in my head roughly what the name of the station was that we needed to get to, but had no idea how to spell it, and it seemed like over night the train station had removed all of their English maps and replaced them with Japanese ones… :confused3

Luckily after staring blankly at a train schedule for 15 minutes a local asked us where we were trying to get to, and was able to point out Maihama on the map. So after 30 minutes and with just one transfer we arrived at the Tokyo Disney Resort!!! It was around 10am.

We headed into Ikspiari to exchange our printed receipt for park tickets and then started making our way into the park, with a quick stop off to get something to eat from Beck’s Coffee.

DSC_0001.jpg

DH had a BLT and I had a hot dog

DSC_00031.jpg

And then in we went!!

The TDL Castle is gorgeous!

DSC_00161.jpg

We headed to the left and the first thing we came across was POTC, with only a 5 minute wait, so in we went. So far we’ve found that pretty much all of the TDL rides are longer then the same ones at DLR and WDW. The same can be said for POTC. It also seemed darker to me…

We then made our way to BTMRR and picked up fastpasses. These were the only FP’s we were able to get today, all of the other machines were shut the whole day. :confused3

We were then almost able to walk straight on to HM with only a 15 minute wait. Again it seemed longer then DLR, however the whole spiel was in Japanese. We love this ride. :lovestruc

It had been hot all morning, but by now it was starting to get nasty hot, so we grabbed some iced treats – I had an orange Mickey Head and DH had a frozen mango - we think this is really a frozen mango half. Both really good.

DSC_00601.jpg

We headed around the back of the park and ended up in Tomorrowland, with only a 25 minute wait on space we decided we’d see what it’s like compared to DLR and WDW – Space is probably DH’s favourite ride. Again we felt this one was longer then the others, better then WDW, and probably equal to DLR.

This might have been where we either watched Captain EO or had lunch at the Blue Bayou (maybe we did both here…)

Captain EO is the original, so all in English, and still as stupid as I remember it from when I saw it in 93. :lmao:

The Blue Bayou of course has amazing ambiance, but I feel the food was a bit of a let down. To me it felt similar to the sort of meal you’d get at an RSL or Services Club. Alright, but nothing to write home about.

We both had the chef's special of the day, which was a chilled tomato soup with pesto

P7170038.jpg

Steak with gravy and vegetables with either a side of rice or bread - I had rice, DH had bread.

P7170040.jpg

Lemon mango mousse with pineapple jelly - really refreshing and yummy.

P7170041.jpg

There was a pretty short wait on the Jungle Cruise as well, so we hoped on it and I must say it was probably the funniest one I’ve ever been on. Probably because we had no idea what was being said!

DSC_0097.jpg

DSC_0085-1.jpg

DSC_00921.jpg

Very similar to the DLR ride, but with an extra bit where you go through an indiana jones style tunnel.

We then made our way up and over the Swiss Family Tree House. I don’t know why, but if there aren’t many people on it, I always enjoy doing the tree houses. Plus there are great views from the top!

DSC_0123.jpg

DSC_0129.jpg

By now we could use our BTMRR FP’s, so we headed over that way. Again it felt longer! Great ride.

DSC_0170.jpg

DSC_0176.jpg

It was still pretty nasty and hot and we saw that IASW only had a 10 minute wait. I hadn’t ridden IASW since I was little, so I dragged DH in. I really enjoyed it. I don’t know why, I just did. Plus I got to sing along with “Duff Beer for me, Duff Beer for you, I’ll have a Duff, you have one too.” :rotfl:

DSC_0192.jpg

What are you doing for Internet/ phone service?

During the night CST has wireless, during the day I'm using the U300 visitor sim card. You can't make calls or send texts, but you can use the net.

We then wandered into Toontown and road the go coaster.

DSC_0196.jpg

DSC_0221.jpg

It was still pretty sticky and hot so we grabbed some curry popcorn popcorn:: and some of these awesome snacks. They’re like the Dole whip float equivalents. They’re shaved ice with pineapple syrup, topped with pineapple soft serve. Actually better then dole whip floats.

DSC_0226.jpg

We then settled in to watch the parade. Lots of dancers and over the top in true Tokyo style!

DSC_0257.jpg

DSC_0266.jpg

DSC_0313.jpg

DSC_0353.jpg

After the parade we rode Space mountain with another 20 minute wait.

DSC_0399.jpg

After SP One Man’s Dream was about to begin so we headed in to watch that. Again it was all in Japanese, but really entertaining to watch.

DSC_0414.jpg

DSC_0493.jpg

DSC_0521.jpg

DSC_0568.jpg

We then went back into Fantasy land and I made DH go on the tea cups with me. Only a 5 minute wait! Turns out there’s a break to stop you spinning the cups too fast… :rolleyes1.

We then went back into Toontown and while the posted wait time was 30 minutes the CM out the front kept saying it was only a 7 minute wait… Well that’s what we thought she was saying, but no it was indeed half an hour… Probably the longest ride we waited for all day! It’s still a fun ride though, so not exactly a waste of time or anything.

DSC_0680.jpg

After RR I saw that Pooh’s Hunny Hunt was only a 25 minute wait, and I’d read that it was one of the most popular rides in the park. So I made DH go on that too. This ride was so much fun! I think I want to ride it again before our time at TDR is up.

DSC_0718.jpg

By now it was after 7pm and we were getting tired. We had done most of the park and thought we would go back into Ikspiari to see what options were there for dinner. At night time every corner you turn Ikspiari just keeps getting prettier and prettier! It’s like a little Italian Forum. It doesn’t have the same feel as downtown Disney, but I think it’s very pretty. There are a heap of restaurants in Ikspiari, and while there may not be English menus outside, I’m pretty sure all of them have them.

DSC_0745.jpg

DH grabbed a couple of beers from the beer garden and we wandered around deciding on which restaurant we were going to eat at.

We decided on an Italian Seafood restaurant called Cucina Mare. It was quite cute inside and all of the light fittings were made out of wine bottles. However I have to point out what everyone says is true, one side of the room is non smoking and the other side is smoking, so it does smell a bit yucky in there.

P7170043.jpg

Pretty much where the roof changes to beams is where the smoking section started...

I had a creamy tomato based pasta with crab claws and DH had the zuppa de pesce. Both were OK, but we probably wouldn’t eat here again.

P7170044.jpg

P7170045.jpg

Also I asked for coke and the waiter brought me pepsi. I hate that.

After dinner we started to make our journey home. It was some time between 10pm and 11pm by the time we got back to CST.

Woo-hoo!!! Awesome awesome AWESOME!! And it sounds like you've had great luck with the ride wait times!! All your pics are great! Sounds like you are having a blast! Can't wait to see more!!

Also, I LOVE THE PIC OF STITCH!! Well, I love pics of anything Stitch really. :P did you by chance see that lunch box I posted awhile ago of Stitch while in Toontown?

Thank you so much.
I am really enjoying this report and thanks for taking us along.

I didn't see it there, but I also didn't look in the food stores to check. They currently have ears though, which you would love, I don't have a pic but basically it looks like stitch is biting your head.

Thank you so much.
I am really enjoying this report and thanks for taking us along.

No problem, I'm falling behind with it, so hopefully I remember everything.

Sounds like it was a good day! Thanks for keeping us posted!

Thanks for following along :goodvibes

Did you catch Disney Natsu Matsuri? Absolutely love that show right now especially at night!

We didn't see it on that first day, but saw it last night.

lol - we just spent god knows how long walking around Shinjuku looking for this wash and fold! Finally here, and FYI the machines here already have detergent in them, so you just chuck your clothes in, select the wash you want (we pressed 3 because it's a pink button and the others are blue, hmm maybe that's the difference between hot and cold wash) and then put in 400Y and it starts washing.

FB_IMG_13427650519507409.jpg

I've sent DH to go find some food.

Bec! I'm in food porn, Disney and laundry heaven!

Thanks for sharing and it looks like you managed to get to TDL in non-busy period. Loved, love, love that shaved ice pineapple dolewhip. I think I could lick me one or two dozen of those alone!

Make sure you have one for me.

:thumbsup2

Again my alarm didn’t go off this morning… So I woke up at 7:30am and started getting ready to go to Disney Sea. :yay:

This morning we knew where we were going and were able to head straight to our train. It wasn’t until we got to the parks that I realised I’d left my phone charging at CST. :headache:

Down on the ground floor of ikspiari we went into a bakery like place named Piaria to get some breakfast. DH had a slice of spicy pizza and I had this deep fried pastry like item, which had a layer of bread and then was filled with a curry like mix… I know, bad description, but I’ve never had anything like it before, it was awesome!

DSC_0001-1.jpg

We then hopped onto the monorail to head over to Disney Sea. The monorail cost 250Y per person each way, but you can get a multi-use pass for 600Y each.

DSC_0006.jpg

Tokyo Disney Sea is incredibly photogenic. Everywhere you look is another postcard photo. You enter the park through Mediterranean Harbour. We took a right and made our way through some of the little Italian back alley ways. It’s just gorgeous.

DSC_0009.jpg

DSC_0013.jpg

We ended up in Mysterious Island and grabbed a fast pass for Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

DSC_0020.jpg

Looking at the map I’m not sure how we did it, but after we left Mysterious Island we crossed a bridge into Lost River Delta.

DSC_0024.jpg

DSC_0025.jpg

DSC_0028.jpg

Indiana Jones and Raging Spirits were both 40+ minute waits, so we walked on through into the Arabian Coast. We rode Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage and we watched the show at The Magic Lamp Theatre. I think both of these would have been better if we knew what was being said. Sinbad is very similar to it’s a small world, but with a storyline, and The Magic Lamp Theatre is a cross between a 3D show, like A Bug’s Life and a live performance.

DSC_0035.jpg

DSC_0039.jpg

DSC_0045.jpg

We did a fair bit of wandering around trying to orientate ourselves to the park. I still don’t think we’ve got it…

DSC_0048.jpg

DSC_0049.jpg

By this time the time had passed for our JTTCOE FP’s so we headed into that ride. This is a really fun ride, but it sort of feels like it’s over as soon as it starts to get good. It’s pretty tame until the last 15/20 seconds, then it’s awesome, then it’s finished…

We then made our way through Port Discovery and into American Waterfront. We had a look around the S.S. Columbia and checked to see what the wait on Tower of Terror was, it was about 40 minutes. Only I wanted to ride this, so we decided we’d check on the wait later on.

We also had a look through the newly opened Toyville Trolley Park. It looks really great. From pictures I’d seen previously I thought the giant Woody head was a little creepy, but it looks really good in person. The wait for Toy Story Mania was 130 minutes, so naturally we gave it a miss.

DSC_0090.jpg

We then stopped for lunch in the New York Deli. It was air conditioned to perfection in there!

I had the Chicken Ciabata sandwhich and DH had the Mile High Sandwich, and we shared a side of fries. Just a note, you don’t get many fries in a cup.
The tomato in my sandwich was a bit squishy, but other then that the sandwiches were very fresh and hit the spot.
