Trip #8; But Was It Great? A WDW MAYcation with a side of LegoLand & Celebration, FL!

Thanks for the Tonga Toast recipe!:thumbsup2 I am going to save it to make when we come home from WDW. I want to try the "real thing" at the Poly before I attempt to make it on my own!

I can't believe how rude that CM was! We have encountered only a few rude CMs in all of our trips, and it is always disappointing to encounter one. One thing that I especially love at WDW is that everyone seems to love their job, with a few exceptions.

Hope you had a great weekend!:goodvibes

Yes, you need to try the real thing first!! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to see what you think about the Poly. And tonga toast! :cool1:

Yes, that guy was unbelievably rude. :( Not sure what his problem was. :confused3

I can't believe how rude that CM was. Sounds like he needs to retire... again! It looks like that's his retirement job.
It's so amazing how crowded and busy it is in the afternoon. Some people just don't understand RD or just at least getting there early.
But that's ok w/ us!!! ;)

You're right -- I think he needs to retire AGAIN!! :faint:

I know what you mean. When we went back to MK that Saturday we got there at RD. And around 10-11:00 the people just started pouring in, it was crazy. :crazy2:

wow!!! What an aweful cast member you had the misfortune to have to come across :( How is he still working there??? I honestly can't see Disney finding that acceptable!! and why did he think everything was such a huge problem anyway?? disney is so good about making their line ups efficient that it should have all been just fine. I don't recall how the line up is for the train bc it's been so long since we were there but honestly - every other ride cue area is so well managed that the CM's don't really concern themselves with where people are standing.
Hope you were able to shake that negativity off real fast.

I don't know how that guy is keeping his job. I would like to think he was just having a bad day, but it really seemed more like his personality and like he had a real chip on his shoulder and didn't enjoy his job at all. I don't know why he thought it was such a big problem. It wasn't crowded and like you said -- WDW's line are efficient. :confused3 But yeah, we just kind of forgot about him once we left the train station!!

I'm sorry about the cranky CM.

The construction walls definitely aren't making me feel bad about being away from WDW for almost 2 years now. I can be fairly certain that it will be almost construction free for my next trip. :cool1:

He was super cranky, that's for sure!! :crazy2:

You are smart for staying away during all this construction. Between MK being torn up and TT being down, it was kind of a bummer. And now they are doing some big projects at the GF and the Poly. I don't think things are going to be looking good until 2014!! :faint:

Hey, those are the same ugly construction walls that we saw when we were there. It sounds like Mr. Grumpy didn't take his happy pills that day! I know that we all have "off days" where we just wanna fuss at everybody but you can't do that when you work at the Happiest Place on Earth.

That path of walls back to Dumbo & the Barnstormer was way longer than I expected it to be! :faint:

No that CM definitely didn't have any happy pills that day. I have a feeling he is like that everyday. :scared:

I don't know if I would call it smart....it just takes the edge off.
I'm REALLY pushing DH for a trip in December or January if we end up back in the continental US. It may be to Disneyland, but I WILL get my child back to Disney before he turns 3 and I have to start buying him a ticket, even if we have to leave DH behind.:lmao:

All the construction is a bit frustrating. I read somewhere that some of the construction at the Grand Floridian is supposed to be done in December, so maybe you'll luck out. They usually do try to keep the construction to a minimum during the holidays, so maybe the GF stuff will end in time for your trip and the stuff at the Poly won't begin until AFTER Christmas!

Bummer the sword didn't work for the boys.

And that CM- woah!!!!! He must have missed his daily sprinkle of Disney Magic before starting his shift! :scared1:

Any idea when those ugly walls are coming down...any chance they will be gone by the first week of May 2013? ;)

Maybe you can get to DL in Dec or Jan!! That would be fun! :cool1: I think most of the big construction is done out there now that Cars Land is open!

Yeah, a lot of the GF construction is set ot end in 'December'. No date though. :confused3 And then they are starting work on the pool deck at the Poly - in either Dec or Jan.....Plus they are starting room rehabs in the Poly longhouses in October. :faint:

They have to try each and every time we walk by that dang thing!! :upsidedow Maybe someday!!

IDK when those walls are coming down. I think a lot of it should be done by then, but not all. There is one attraction (I forget which one) that they are now saying 2014 for completion. :sad2:

So is there something you would like to tell me about the first week of May 2013??? :rolleyes1

We got off the train at the Main Street Train Station. We were a little early for our dinner ADR at Tony's so we went over to the new Town Square Meet & Greet and saw that the wait times were very short!! I think they have it set up so that you can even get FP's for these Meet & Greets, but they sure weren't needed today!

Only 5 minutes for Magician Mickey and only 10 minutes for the Storybook Princesses!!

So of course the boys didn't want any part of the princess meet & greet, so we got in line for Mickey. Although it wasn't much of a line!!

I was so happy we stumbled upon this with pretty much no wait! It was awesome!

Afterwards in the little gift shop DS10 did a little pin trading.

It was still a little early for our ADR at Tony's, so I suggested that since we had time to kill maybe we should go see the princesses!! To which I got much protest. So I said it's either that or we just sit and wait for Tony's. DS10 agreed to go see the princesses! DS13 on the other hand was being a little bratty about it. :upsidedow So we went inside and left him standing there on the front porch of the Town Square building pouting. :rotfl: Eventually he reluctantly decided to join us.

We waited about 10-15 minutes this time. And DS13 complained the whole time.:sad2: But, once we got inside all was well with the world, as I knew it would be. :goodvibes The princesses were awesome and the boys had a great time!

DS10 especially had a fun time with this and was raising his eyebrows at the princesses and winking and things like that!! He had them all laughing and even the photopass photographers were laughing!

And the timing was perfect. When we came out of there it was time to check in for our dinner!

Continued in next post.....

Continued.....

We checked in at Tony's Town Square about 5 minutes before our ADR time and were given a beeper. We were seated in about 10 minutes.

We were seated just a few tables to the left of the Lady & the Tramp statue.

This was our first time at Tony's. We had heard so many mixed reviews of the place that we didn't know what to expect. But a lot of the more recent reviews had been positive, so we were hopeful!

DH and I both ordered the Chicken Parmigiana. DS10 ordered plain spaghetti with butter on the side, and sliced apples. DS10 ordered pizza and sliced apples.

I'm very happy to report that everything was very good. Our service was great! Our meals came out about 10 minutes after we ordered them. Very fast! The kids were pleased with their meals and DH & I really liked our chicken parmigiana. The sauce was different than we are used to. A little plain maybe. But still very good. We are glad we tried Tony's and I'm sure we will go there again one day.

The kids got little sundaes for dessert.

So cute the boys saw the princesses! Wow!!! Can't believe those wait times.
I don't think I could ever get away with that!:rotfl:
I did however get to meet the princesses with my niece 2 years ago. It was fun and something I thought I'd never get to do.
It's nice to do girly things every once in a while.
We ate at Tony's once- we thought it was good also. Those chicken parms looked huge!

Great pic of your whole family with ::MickeyMo and ::MinnieMo!

I can't believe you convinced your boys to take pics with the princesses! No $5 bribes were involved? Your DS10's faces in the pics are priceless. He is a litle character!

The meal at Tony's looks really good. I love chicken parmigiana, and that dish looks yummy! Cute pic of you and DH, too. You and your tall self towering over him. ;)

wow, you can order plain pasta with a side of butter :confused3 or was that just a special request order bc that is the same way dd likes her pasta - plain with nothing except maybe a little butter or a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. I would never have thought to ask for such a thing. LOL

Tony`s looked nice - we were going to go there too but didn`t hear the best reviews so decided against it.

We do it all the time!:thumbsup2

The picture of you guys with Mickey and Minnie is great! I love it. Just you wait....not very long from now, your 13 year old will be more than willing to meet the Princesses. ;) Glad to hear that your dinner at Tony's was good. Like you, I've read a lot of mixed reviews.

Thanks Teri! :) Nope, no bribes!! :rotfl: DS10 was having a blast with the princesses!

Yes, I do look quite tall there in that pic, don't I?! Our dinner was very good. ::yes::

Oh yes, Disney is very good about special requests. We've learned this with DS10 over the years. :upsidedow Once BRG made him a grilled cheese sandwich with no cheese! :faint: :rotfl:

The last time we had an ADR at Tony's we ended up cancelling. I'm so glad we gave it a try this time. :goodvibes

I'm glad the boys enjoyed their interaction with the princesses, I may have to gently persuade DS to do that meet & greet in October!

Your dinner at Tony's looked great :thumbsup2 we may just have to give it a try instead of Crystal Palace, which we always seem to do :confused3

We do it all the time!:thumbsup2

Us too! :thumbsup2

Oh DS13 is very into the girls right now. I was surprised he didn't want to go in there to see the princesses. Maybe Mr Grumpy Pants train guy rubbed off on him!! :confused3:scared1::laughing:

Tony's was very good! And I couldn't believe how fast our meals came out. If we had ordered the same thing at Mama Melrose we would have been in there for 2 hours. :faint:

I think the princesses know that the boys feel awkward meeting them, so they are really great about it and make sure they have a good time. :goodvibes

We used to go to Crystal Palace all the time too. We're starting to get away from it now and try other things. CP is very good though too! :thumbsup2

I love the pictures of the boys with the princesses! Too cute! My DD10 is at the point where she doesn't even want to see the princesses, which I am bummed about...however, she wants to see all of the other characters (Mickey, Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, etc). I'm not sure that I understand her logic, but I just go with it! Hopefully I will get her to see the princesses on her next trip. I would love some pictures of her with them!:lovestruc

I'm so glad that you liked Tony's! We really enjoy it there. I always order the Chicken Parmigiana too!

Can't wait to read more!

I'm trying to decide if I want to try Tony's again on our next trip. Our last visit there was less then stellar. There are just so few options for TS at MK. I've found I'm planning most of our meals at Epcot where this is much more variety. I'm not able to get into Ohana - although I try every day. I knew it was be close to impossible. We're not huge fans of Crystal Palace - it was just "eh" in our opinion. I've tentatively got ADRs at Liberty Tree for dinner - we've done lunch. Shelly - have you done dinner at LTT before??

Thanks Lauren! :goodvibes Oh I know all about it - a few years ago the kids were boycotting getting any character pics. They were too cool I guess.:confused3 It was upsetting to say the least!! Luckily they got over it in a hurry and are now willing to do it to humor me, IF there is not a long line! :rotfl:

I was so relieved when Tony's was good! I was really not expecting it to be, so it was a nice surprise. :)

It's so hard to go back to a place after a not so good visit. I usually give it a few years and then try again! If it is a WDW restaurant, that is. If we have a bad experience at a WDW resort we never go back. Too much money to chance it again. :scared1: I would say to give Tony's another try if enough time has passed.

We really like Crystal Palace for breakfast. We used to go there every trip. Until we discovered Kona. Now we do breakfast there every trip, for less than half the price of CP!

I hope you can snag an Ohana ADR. :wizard: It is awesome!

Never been to LTT. There's just not much there that my boys will eat. And not a lot that I would love either. So it wouldn't be worth the money for us. I think Jodi goes there often. Maybe she can give you some insight whenever she gets her behind home from shopping & gets on here!!

Now you just wait a darn tootin second missy! I'm trying to catch up on this here TR AND put away all these Christmas presents I just bought....

Yes I said Christmas Presents so put that in yo' pipe and smoke it.:rolleyes1 Ain't no one calling me a Hot Mess this year. No sir-ee bob. I am ahead of schedule.

:upsidedow

Okay so now let's see...
I cannot believe that DS 10 was the one flirting with the Princesses! That is just so adorable with his cute self. I'm sure the Princesses fell in love with him, bless his little heart. Too cute.

I sure hope Drew and DS13 don't want to go in to see the Princesses together. Alone. I can already see that as Trouble with a capital T.:scared1:

So happy you loved Tony's! I was honestly worried for you to try it. I thought maybe our time there was a fluke and that it would be totally nasty when you went, since most of the reviews are so awful. Your plates looked great and I'm sad that we aren't eating there this trip. I really enjoyed it.

------------------------

Now as far as LTT--- we love it. Honestly we do!! We eat there every trip for supper, and sometimes for lunch. After being in the parks and eating lots of burgers and fries and stuff, it's a good comfort food place. Especially in the winter--- yum! Turkey and Stuffing and mashed potatoes and green beans and Macaroni. It's a carb lovers paradise. :rotfl: They used to have the characters here but we haven't really missed them at all since they left. Makes the time go faster.
We love the atmosphere in here-- but then again we love antiques and history so that could be why! I say to try it at least once. You never know- what works for some doesn't work for others.

--------------

So there ya go. I'm all caught up AND I started shopping for Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiistmaaaaaaaaaaaaas Preseeeeeents. :santa: Now. Say you're proud and that I am a Reformed Procrastinator.

Say it. Or else!!
