As you may know I have been scheming for a TDL trip -and have been hanging for QF flights at the right price - :wizard:

Well today was the day :worship::worship::cool1::banana:.

I had an email from Qantas this morning so I checked the prices SYD-NRT in April - $999 rt. - I suddenly became ill - this is what I was waiting for, but is it really what I wanted :confused3 -

I asked DH, he is keen to go but thinks its too far out of the comfort zone for the children, (terribly fussy eaters) which on one hand I want to push them out of their comfort zone but not at the expense of ruining my holiday by having 3 whiny teenagers along for the ride. :scared1:

So I sat on it all day - but I said to him if we dont do it now we will always regret it and I would resent all of them - so its done, booked, paid for!

QF April 10 2013

return

April 25

I used points + pay so the total came down to $4232 for the five of us, which in my mind compares favourably to the super cheap jetstar $199 sale a couple of weeks ago, which was going to cost $3700 for the family - no meals, no bags, no points and a 3hour stopover in Cairns and a really inconvenient departure time.

I was annoyed about the $30 pp credit card fee, I could have used BPAy, but after the air australia debacle, I like the security of paying with CC.

On a positive note, I went straight in to select seats as after deliberating over it last time I knew there was no choice but to pay for them. So I was expecting another $200 fee, but went through the whole process without it asking for cc details, so fingers crossed there was no charge. :thumbsup2

So yay, another trip to plan!! But gosh I feel :sick:

Wow, that IS exciting! Great fares, so that sick feeling should go away quickly :banana: I went to Japan as a fussy 16 year old, and I managed to find something to eat wherever we went, so your kids should be OK!

Woo hoo, another trip to plan!!

WOOHOO Battymum !! :woohoo: :cool1: I am THRILLED for you :banana: :yay:

I can imagine you feeling a bit sick after having to make that decision so quickly but I'm sure it is the right one and you are going to have such fun getting stuck into the trip planning :thumbsup2

Awesome! Japan is such an amazing country. Is it just before Golden Week when you will be there? Hopefully that will mean lighter crowds

re food...they'll be fine....heaps of western style food available.....and maccas:rotfl:
great result.....oh we do love a sale/ paradepopcorn::

Congratulations!!! That is great news! I second Karen with the food. As proud as the Japanese are of their culture, they are also in love with everything American! So there'll be plenty of Western choices if needed.

Happy planning!!!

Thanks for all the encouragement - I am sure we are going to have an amazing time -

DH is just a little stressed because he hasnt done as much research (or any) as I have.

Golden week is the week after we get back, Japan school is in, so crowds should be light and we should be able to catch some of the cherry blossom festivities - The weather should be mild, I am putting an order in for perfect spring days -and there is no time difference, so no jet lag, except for catching up after the overnight flight. :crazy2:

The kids will miss only 2 days of school and if this is a problem for DD (year 12) I will change her flight to leave on Fri.

Its going to be GREAT! :cool1::cool1:

After I told DH of my decision - we were discussing what he wants to do in Japan, -(he has always said he wants to go)

He tells me "i want to get pushed onto a train" :faint:

I am going to follow your trip planning and your trip with great interest as Japan sounds like a possibility for us in the distant future and so I'm so keen to see how your family of five (like we are) does it. :surfweb: Please let me know if you do a PTR on the Japan forum :)

That's fantastic Battymum! You will all have an amazing time I'm sure ( even if DH doesn't get pushed into a train...:rotfl2: )

I don't think 2 days off school will be a problem for your daughter at all, I think April school holidays is the best time to take them on a year 12 holiday, the exams etc are still far enough away that the pressure isn't bad.

Have fun planning!

Well done! You will love it - it's so different to here but still a comfortable place to be, if that makes sense. In my previous life (i.e. before kids) I travelled to Tokyo quite a few times for work and had no problem walking around the city by myself, even at night. And food - every second restaurant seems to be Italian.

Thats what attracted me to Japan, besides Disney of course, is the fact that apparently there is very little petty crime and it is amazingly clean for such a huge city. Seems a little less third world than other Asian countries, along with first world prices to match:faint:. My niece is currently in Vietnam and had her bag slashed off her shoulder by a guy on a motorbike. :moped::scared1::scared1:

Told the kids tonight - and they are super excited, although disappointed I didnt make a grand gesture of telling them. Last time I made a powerpoint slideshow and made them watch on the big screen on Christmas eve.

I am a terrible mother.:sad::sad:

Anyway DS straightaway downloaded an app for learning some Japanese. DD remembers how to ask the time from her Year 8 Japanese - so looks like we are sorted! :thumbsup2
