Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

Hi Jess :) Yultide fantasy sounds awesome! I love your pictures. I know you have your heart set on working for Disney, but I think you would make an amazing travel writer! You really bring your reader into your world. Looking forward to next update :thumbsup2 -Amanda ::yes::

I am still here, but mostly in lurkdom mode these days!

I am totally loving your Yuletide Fantasy Tour trip updates - what an amazing opportunity. If I could ever talk my girls into going during the holidays - this is definately on my 'must do' list!

D~

No problem! I'm glad you're still reading along!
Thank you so much! It really was. Yes it should definitely be a must do if you can ever get down there for Christmas!

Wow I am seriously in awe after hearing about the Christmas decorations.....26 people seriously?? What amazing talent they must have to accomplish all of it by themselves.

I've heard the story of Virginia and Santa Claus before but never the whole of the originiation of it...that is so neat and so special that James was able to share all this extra info with the tour.

Can't wait to hear where you guys were headed off to next:goodvibes

That's how I was on the tour! It was SO cool! Yesh, 26 people!! I was shocked. I was like "...seriously!?" Disney hires a fantastic group, that's for sure!

Aww well there ya go! I'm glad you liked it!

And haha we are off to a very unique place, that's for sure!

I am loving reading all the little facts about the holidays at Disney!

I can’t believe only 26 CMs work in that building! I would love that job.

The pin is so cute!

I had no clue they give you a pin after every tour. Very cool!

I'm glad you like them!
So would I! It would be amazing!
Thanks! I thought it was so cute!
Yes they do! It's such a nice little gift!

I need to take a tour! I love getting the little known facts. It just makes everything more fun and interesting.
And I love how often you are updating!! It is so nice to find new additions whenever I am needing a Disney friend. Thanks!

You would absolutely love a tour! Hopefully you can do one next time.
Haha thank you! I need to get this trip report mostly done before I start college in the fall/the Disneyland trip report! If I drag it out too long I would be stuck in the trip reporting twilight zone  Hopefully everyone is keeping up alright!

That tour sounds SO COOL! It must have just been heaven to go back stage and see how Disney does things! The organization you described blows my mind! Also, that story is so sweet! And how neat that you go such a special pin from the tour. I didn't know they gave out pins at the end of tours!

It was AMAZING! I was jumping out of my skin. I was LOVING IT!! Just seeing how they organized things was crazy to me! I am an organization freak so I loved it! That pin was really cute! Yes, they do! They're always really adorable, too!

WOW. That tour is amazing!!!! I can't even imagine what Holiday Services must look like!!! :lovestruc

That letter is absolutely beautiful!!!!!! :goodvibes I got all Christmas-y, and it's July! LOL! :rotfl:

It was SO cool! I know, I wish I could have taken a picture but they weren't allowed. Just imagine a GIANT warehouse with tons of compartments divided up for the Christmas decorations!

Aww haha Christmas in July is never a bad thing!

OMG what a fantastic update. The Yuletide Fantasy Tour just got even better. That is so awesome that you got to see where they store everything. YAY GLITTER WALL. And I love that special pin!! What a great experience, thank you so much for telling us about it! I absolutely love it.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it! It really was a one-of-a-kind experience! I loved the pin too! You're welcome! Thank you for reading - I'm so glad!

That tour sounds soooo amazing! All those facts are crazy!
I would loveee to do that tour! Was it expensive?

It was WONDERFUL!
It wasn't too expensive! I want to say that it was $80 each! Don't quote me on that but I think that's what it was.

Hello! Thank you! I'm so glad. Haha aww thank you for those kind words! I definitely wouldn't be opposed to that option! I hope my future career will all work out! :goodvibes Thank you!

I MUST go on this tour!! It sounds amazing! It just doesn't get any better than Disney & Christmas together!! It is so cool that you went to Holiday Services, I had read in a guidebook about the 26 people who manage all the holiday decorations and ever since then it has been my life goal to work there!! How do you get that job I wonder?? The wall of glitter sounds AMAZING!! I'm sure it was tough not being able to take pictures, but I get that they want to preserve the magic!

Love the special Pin too, what a great one for your collection!

My Mom is ridiculous about Christmas. She has two trees that she puts up every year (one outside on their lanai, and one inside) and she counts down to Christmas every day of the year. She was like a little kid inside the warehouse, it was SO COOL.

What a fantastic update! I LOVED reading all of those interesting facts about backstage "magic" stuff.
And I especially loved hearing about the wall of glitter!! Glitter always me happy!!princess:pixiedust:

Yes you need to! It was such an unbelievable experience! Aww that would be such a dream job! I have no idea how you would get it. I would imagine you have to already work for Disney and then make your way over to that department. Who knows, though. Yeah, I completely understand that they want to conserve the magic. I'm so glad that they do that!

I know, it really is a nice one!

You definitely should! I highly recommend it!

Thank you! I'm so glad!
Glitter makes me happy too! That was like the prettiest wall ever!

I loved, loved, loved your review of the train tour. If I ever manage to go to disney during December, this is now a MUST!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad!

That was an amazing update! I seen a TV show about what Disney does overnight regularly, and that was awesome, I can't even imagine putting up decor!

I'll be able to see the seasons change this year fro Halloween to Christmas, and I can't wait!

Jess: What an amazing back stage tour! I'm sure that is something that you will always remember and how special that you got to share it with your mom! (That's the mom in me talking! :lmao:)

Your review is so enjoyable and entertaining! You never fail to deliver exciting updates. :goodvibes

Hey Jess, have you heard of magnetic nail polish? It is a polish that has a bit of metal particles in it. You paint your nails and then (while still wet) you hold a special pattened magnet over it and the polish ends up with a cool design in it. I wonder if we could make a magnet that would put a mickey head in the polish. I think Disney will probably sell that someday.

Very cool tour! If I am ever there at Christmas, I am going to have to take it. I LOVE the pin, particularly because it has Jiminy Cricket!
We just took the Keys to the Kingdom tour and I loved it. Got an awesome pin too which I will post a pic of in my TR.

Thanks for sharing your tour experience! I bet that was such an amazing time!

It would be so cool to see where they keep all the decorations!! That kind of blows my mind about the lights on the castle take less energy than 3 loads of laundry!! haha Way to go Disney!

That pin is super cute!! I think that is such a neat way to be able to remember your tour experience!!

I'm so glad that you and your family had a great time and enjoyed the tour so much!:goodvibes

Okay, really random question that I was hoping someone else would ask...I missed a bunch of updates so I'm re-reading the second part of your report (just finished the Cap May portion...OREO BON BONS...YUM!), and I have to ask: Where is your red and white striped 2-piece swimsuit from?! It's so adorable! Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Thank you! You absolutely should! I loved the pin too! I'm glad they chose Jiminy - he's such a unique character!

Ahh did you!? That's awesome! I bet that was wonderful!

Oh my God ME TOO! When he told us that, I was like "...wait. Really!?" But it's true!

Thanks! I know, I love it!

Just found your TR and love it!!

Aww yay I'm glad you're here! Sorry it's going to/already did take you 35 years to catch up :lmao:

Haha don't even worry! You can aways ask about clothes - A girl loves talking about her wardrobe  I actually got that swim suit at Target! I got it two summers ago... but I think they still have very similar styles!

That tour looks absolutely amazing!!!!! I have never done a Disney tour but I really want to, and this is now at the top of my list. Do you happen to know if you need to have park admission in addition to the tour cost or is it just the tour?

It was WONDERFUL. You definitely should do it one day! And yeah I think you need park admission for the tours. Don't quote me on that though... I can't remember.

Pre-Trip Report #1: THIS IS HUGE NEWS.
June 5th, 2012

Guys, this is the biggest news in the history of big news. Like.... OH MY GOD.

You're never gonna guess.

GUESS.

Okay, I'll tell you.

party: WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! party:

OH MY GOD I CAN'T EVEN BREATH I'M SO EXCITED. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING. I DIDN'T THINK I WAS EVER GOING TO DISNEYLAND ANYTIME SOON. IS THIS REAL LIFE!?!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

My Mom and I have been thinking about this trip for a couple weeks, just daydreaming about how fun it would be. I read brookelizabeth's trip report (No way Jose! We are going to Disneyland!) about her trip to Disneyland, and that just sealed the deal. I WANTED TO GO. Everytime I would read about it I would just go CRAZY.

I went to Disneyland once when I was 12 years old. But honestly, I barely remember it. I have very blurry and vague memories of the whole thing. Because, yeah, I loved Disney. But my comprehension and interest level were no where near where it is today.

SO YEAH I'M BASICALLY JUMPING OUT OF MY SKIN SDLFKHFKDSAHFSDJAFHLAKJDSHFLKADSHJLFUSDHFLKJK!!!!!!!!!!!
My Mom and I officially just booked our trip about an hour ago.

This is the current plan for our trip. I can't tell you how unbelievably excited I am about this.

Well first off, from August 11th-16th (approximately) I'm going to go visit my boyfriend, Preston. He lives in Georgia and we will have been apart all summer. So I'm REALLY looking forward to that. (This isn't officially booked yet, but it's like 90% for sure happening! :lovestruc)

Then the next afternoon, on August 17th we are flying in to California! WOOOOHOOOOO!

From the 17th-21st, we aren't really sure what we're going to do yet. I'm thinking we're going to stay at our cousins' house because they've been asking us to come back and visit since our first trip when I was 12.

Then on the 22nd, we're OFFICIALLY GOING TO DISNEYLAND. That's right people, we are staying ON PROPERTY. I know a lot of people swear that the off property resorts are just as good, but we literally don't go to California. We wanted to do this right!

Not only that, but we are staying at ALL THREE. You heard me. ALL THREE DISNEYLAND RESORTS. After meticulous planning and switching around days, I figured out an affordable way to do it with our DVC points!

We're starting off with three nights at the beautiful Disneyland Hotel!

Then two nights at Paradise Pier!

Then finishing off with three nights at Disney's Grand Californian Resort!!!!!!

Thank you Disney Vacation Club for actually making this possible.

Basically, I'm having a heart attack of joy right now. :faint:

On August 29th we're heading home, and then I start school on September 4th. So BAM BAM BAM August is going to be a fabulous month. I just gotta survive June and July. I'm taking 3 summer classes online, I'm working one job right now, and then I'm going to be working two jobs the whole month of July and until August 10th. Then I leave for Georiga on the 11th. So basically this summer is INSANE. I am going to need this vacation.

But ANYWAYS, I think it's about time I cut to the chase.

I NEED HELP.

We all know that I'm COMPLETELY and utterly obsessed with Walt Disney World. That place is my home and I love it with my whole heart and soul.

And for Disneyland, I obviously have an unconditional love for it. But I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I have done the bare amount of research so I could book the resort.s I have read that one Disneyland trip report. And I know the basic set up of the park. (that it's all within walking distance, that the GCH is connected to Downtown Disney, etc.)

So this is why I'm coming to you all. I'm sure most of you are WDW goers, but there has to be some Disneyland fans out there, too!

I have SO many questions.

The most important being - WHERE DO I NEED TO EAT!? I need to know what restaurants are the best, which ones I can make reservations for, which quick service places are worth going to, and which staple Disneyland snacks I need to try. PLEASE HELP. I need to be directed to a Disneyland dining expert or something!
EDIT: Also, should I look into getting the dining plan? Is it worth it? Or would my Tables in Wonderland work in Disneyland?

I literally want to see EVERYTHING at each resort and each park. I know the parks won't take me very long (as I have been told) but I really want to take the time to see all of the details. So if you have any recommendations for any special thing I would want to see within Disneyland, please let me know.

I'm also looking for good Disneyland threads and trip reports to read on Disboards. I don't know which ones would be the best, and since I have limited time this summer, I need to know the best of the best! I want to learn as much information as possible!

And lastly, I know there's TONS to do in California. So if there are any things you think that are worth seeing outside of Disneyland, please let me know! I just like knowing my options, especially for those first few days of the trip before we stay on property!

ALRIGHT. I think that's it. Any and all help would be appreciated!!! Thank you so much everyone! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND!!!!!! :wizard:

I can't believe I just said that.

And yes, I am going to write MY VERY FIRST DISNEYLAND TRIP REPORT! Oh my gosh, I wanna cry. I'M SO HAPPY! :yay:

Continued in Next Post

Just found your TR :goodvibes

As a DLR vet and AP holder, I would highly recommend making a reservation at the Blue Bayou. The food is good but what you are paying for is the atmosphere. Since it's in the POTC ride, it's EXTREMELY unique. Also, our POTC is different from the MK.

Also, if you are into character meals, Goofy's Kitchen at the DLH or Storyteller's at the GCH are good meals. Great character interaction and good food. I even got a photo with Baloo when I went to Goofy's; a rare sighting! For character meals in the parks, they have Minnie & Friends breakfast at the Plaza Inn on Main St. and Princesses at Ariel's Grotto in California Adventure.

As far as counter service goes, I'm a pretty simple girl. I love me some DL corn dogs and clam chowder (not together ;) )

Are you also going to California Adventure?
I'd DEFINITELY recommend it because now Radiator Springs Racers is open! If you are able to go, definitely take advantage of the park entrance in the GCH.

I'd say don't miss out on any rides, obviously!, but make sure you ride the ones unique to DL (i.e. Matterhorn, Indiana Jones, POTC (different then MK), Space Mt (different).)

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
