Can you use a TS credit for a QS meal?

Depending how our week goes, and how tired the kids are, we may end up not using a TS meal, and want to use it for a QS meal at the food court. Will they allow that?

Yes. It is allowed. It was specifically written in the brochure earlier this year, but then they revamped it and that "great tip" was romoved. Someone posted a copy of their email (within the last two weeks) where they asked the question to Disney directly, and Disney's response was that it could be done.

Only stating the obvious, that most would consider using a TS entitlement on a counter service meal a waste of money. If you end up feeling confident that this will happen when you are there, one option other than wasting a TS on a CS would be to maybe go for a signature meal (which requires 2 TS) or maybe do a dinner package (such as Fantasmic) or show (Hoop Dee Doo Revue) that also require 2TS. That way you can actually have a free evening without having to worry about using a TS on CS. Just a thought.

We're only doing one reservation a day, and most of those are signatures or shows. We're doing the deluxe because we want all the snack options and don't want to be limited on where we can eat. However, because we want to enjoy the parks and not have to plan our trip around where we eat, we will probably just grab a quick bite wherever is convenient. Sure, it will be a waste of money because we're on the Deluxe, but we've waited 30 years to get back to Disney and want to be on a prepaid plan so we're not flinching every time we look at the menu prices.

One suggestion, and this is something I tried to do for about 50% of our upcoming reservations, is to make ADR's at locations outside the parks. Yes, you will still be constrained by time, but at least not by location, especially if you are not park hopping. Our 3dd will be 5-7-10 and paying $300+ for our family to park hop really isn't cost effective for the few times we'd use it. By making at least half of our ADR's at locations outside the parks (1900 Park Fare, Whispering Canyon, Boma, HDDR and Ohana) we have the flexibility of being in any Park that day regardless of where we are eating.

Believe me, no one appreciates more than me not having the "sticker shock" of looking up at the menu board pricing every time you sit down to eat, but the only thing that would bother me more is knowing (regardless of convenience) that I paid $40 (x3 adults!) for an $8-10 meal. For a $100 savings, per meal, I can live with a little less convenience.

It is unlikely that we would do this, but I just wanted to know what my options are. We are already doing HoopDeeDoo, but we paid OOP, because I only wanted Category One. That is why we basically have an extra meal. I won't do lunch reservations---don't like having to interrupt park touring for a sit down lunch. Just in case the kids (my niece and nephew--they have never been to Disney) can't handle going to our last night meal, I just wanted to see if we would have the option to just eat at the food court, and call it a day. But thanks for your suggestions!

One other option I thought of. I generally always associate TS with dinner, but if you are worried about kids tuckering out, maybe use the TS for a character breakfast? Much less to worry about with tired kids in the morning then later in the evening after a full day at the parks.

I had this same question! I will probably be in the same situation. It will be with the FD plan so I don't consider it a waste to use a TS credit for a QS meal.

Anyway, How does that work? If you are out of QS credits but go to eat at a QS restaurant, will it automatically take a TS credit? Or do you have to tell the CM that you want to use a TS credit?

I would just tell them so they don't get confused and charge the meal to you room (if you allow your KTTW card to have charging priviledges, that is). When you get to the cashier to place your order, just say, "I would like to use a table service credit for this please." Easy peasy.

My experience in May on DxDP was that they no longer "break down" table service credits into QS and snack. I found out the hard way when I went to the QS place in the Grand Floridian while the wife and daughter were at the Perfectly princess tea party. I went to get a cup of coffee and asked if she could just break a TS credit down since this is what we had done in years past. She smiled sweetly, said "I know just what to do" and banged me out a TS credit for a cinnamon roll and a cup of garbage coffee.

I didn't realize until later in the day and was furious that this was pretty much happening all trip long. Not passing comment on which plan is better or even good, just to watch your credits and the employees like a hawk when they ring you up.
