Welcome!!!

If you remember from my last TR, DH was very sick throughout most of our vacation and did not enjoy Disney at all. He was so sick in fact that he did not like Disney or Disney food or Disney etc………this was the trip that was going to help him see that Disney was a great place. So off we go with a description of the characters…..

Favorite Restaurant – Pizza Planet
Favorite Dessert – Cupcakes from Contempo Café’

Nannia and Poppa joined us for this trip. Unfortunately I don’t have a single photo of them by themselves so the above pic will have to do. It was interesting being able to ride everything with just DH since the kids always wanted to ride with Nannia and Poppa.

So now that the introductions are finished, would DH like Disney? Would anything I do or say be able to change his mind? Would anyone get sick on this trip? Would the rain ( and there was LOTS of it) put a damper on our moods? Would we take our time and smell the roses or would we rush through everything in an attempt to see and do it all??

WARNING: If you are looking for food porn, this is not the TR for you. Sorry, when we would sit down to eat we always seemed to be starving so I remembered about the pictures about halfway through most meals. I have very few food pics.

Next up: Our traveling day and flight to Disney

I had to giggle at your warning about the lack of food porn. It's ok, I'm not a food junkie. I'm in for the ride!

 YAY! you've started it.. YAY! I am looking forward to reading all about the trip. Your teasers have me worried your DH didn't catch the disney fever, but I will wait and hopefully be pleasantly surprised when I read your full TR.
Welcome home!

As sad as I am to not see lots of food pics, I can totally get behind reading a TR for the sake of the attractions and memories. :lmao::rotfl2: (Plus, I've got pics of all my favorite foods that I can look at if I get to missing food.) I am totally in! :thumbsup2

Fingers are crossed the rain didn't put a damper on the vacay, no one got sick, and everyone had a super amazing time!! :goodvibes

Anxious for more! popcorn::

Well we woke up Thursday morning super excited and so very very ready for our drive to New Orleans but first, DH had a foot doctor appointment. UGH, who schedules those the day we leave for vacation?!?!? Well I guess it was good that he did because he ended up taking the whole day off since he would be going into work late and leaving early. What does that mean? We get to leave even earlier!!!

DH’s foot doctor appointment went well and he returned home before I was finished packing the last minute items. :rolleyes1 Oops…..maybe I had gotten distracted on the DIS or maybe time had just slipped away but either way we were now running “late” for our lunch.

We left our house around 11 a.m. I felt the need to take “we’re leaving” photos.

DSCN6900.jpg

This should have been a sign to me of how well his pictures would go all week. This kid is rotten I tell ya. pirate:

DSCN6901.jpg

Always eager to smile!

I needed to stop and drop off our house key and last minute instructions to the girl who would house sit for us and DH was going to drop off our library books. We would eventually meet about an hour east of our home for lunch at one of our favorite Chinese restaurants. Oh yeah, we were taking two vehicles because DH’s truck had been making an awful noise so he was bringing it to his dad who works on vehicles. I hadn’t left our town yet when DH called to tell me that the kids didn’t put the Wii game back in the library case but not to worry the librarian renewed it for us and we could find it when we got back. Yes our library rents out video games. That’s not something that we had ever seen before moving here but I really like it!

With a quick stop at the house sitter’s, we met up for lunch. YUM!!!! Sweet and sour chicken with shrimp friend rice…..except that I was so excited I could hardly eat! It was good though! And we’re off….now to drive to Nannia and Poppa’s to “pick them up”(even though they drove their own car) and check in for our flight.

I had never flown Southwest Airlines before and didn’t quite understand the “you don’t get to choose your seat” thing but I did know that I had to check us in around 24 hours before our trip so we could get a place in a line to get a seat. Sound confusing? Yes we were confused. I checked us in about 22 hours before our flight only to realize that we were already halfway through the B line (which meant about 90 people board in front of us if you count the families). SHUCKS, we may never get seats together. I didn’t need six together but I did want to be able to sit with my children.

We began to make a list of everything we had forgotten (ALREADY!!!) and realized that we needed to stop at Target and Academy. Yay – NOT! I was so ready to be there. My DH bought a brand new LSU hat at Academy (remember this…..it will come up a FEW times). Finally we were at our hotel for the evening. :cool1:

We stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton near the airport in New Orleans for the night. I don’t have a picture of it from my own camera (I know what was I thinking????) so I borrowed this one from their website.

fourpoints.jpg

Nannia and Poppa had a surprise when they got into their room. They had chips, a praline, and a root beer with this note.

DSCN6904.jpg

Poppa’s name is not Thomas; it’s not even close to being anything like Thomas. We think that they must have received poor Thomas’ room but where Thomas was, we never did find out. The hotel overall was nice. The people were very helpful and we would stay there again if we needed to.

We met my DH’s brother for dinner so that we could park our vehicle and Nannia and Poppa’s vehicle at his house. We went to eat at one of his favorite seafood restaurants in New Orleans. I’m not naming the restaurant because to be quite frank we had an AWFUL experience there and I don’t want to taint it for anyone else. I’m sure it’s a good restaurant as DH’s family had been many many times and enjoyed it but this night was NOT good at all.

Five of us received what tasted like rotten strips of fish in our fried fish dinner. They tasted so bad that we literally could not eat them. We tried to tell the waitress but she kept trying to say that we just didn’t know what fish tasted like….that catfish have a really fishy, dirty taste. Umm…..no we are from here, we know what fish taste like lady. She never once called over a manager or a cook or anyone who could see what we were talking about.

As we were walking out of the restaurant to go back to the hotel, the thought hit us, “What if we all get food poisoning from the rotten fish? How will we be able to board the plane and ride to Disney if we are sick?” Oh boy, not again……..:mad::sick:

Well today is my sweet little one's 6th birthday!!! We have had a wonderful day of Mickey pancakes for breakfast, Brave at the theaters and his favorite restaurant for dinner. He has had a wonderful day!!

I'll try to post the next section later tonight or tomorrow!

Upon waking up Friday morning, I realized that it was morning and I was NOT sick nor were either of the kids!!!:cool1: YAY!! After a quick check to make sure that Poppa wasn’t sick either we were ready to leave for the airport!!

We left for the airport at about 9 a.m. Our flight wasn’t until 11:50 a.m. but we wanted to be sure that we had plenty of time to go through security, find our gate and have lunch before we boarded the plane. Imagine our surprise when we walked up to an empty security line!!! Apparently New Orleans airport isn’t nearly as busy as some of the others! Since we had plenty of time to waste at the airport, we decided to check out the shops.

Here are a couple of pics of Nannia and I in front of the House of Blues store…..

DSCN6906.jpg

DSCN6908.jpg

DSCN6909.jpg

DS6 found a Mardi Gras mask that he really really wanted in the store across from the House of Blues. I would not let him purchase one because they were very fragile looking. I figured we would be passing this way again on the way home and we could just purchase it then. Unfortunately you can not reason with a six year old. He decided to run away….yep that’s right, in the middle of the airport he decides that he doesn’t want to stay with us, he doesn’t want to go to Disney, he is running away. So what does this caring, loving mother do? Well I take a picture of course…..

DSCN6910.jpg

You can see how empty the airport is in this picture.

And another picture of his dad carrying him back to us…..

DSCN6913.jpg

We tried to get a cute pic of the kids with Nannia in front of the Blues Brothers but DS6 was still in a bad mood. Remember what I said about pictures on this trip??? I have QUITE a few like this.
DSCN6915.jpg

In the very next store, DS6 found a toy alligator that he needed (see a pattern here?). We gave in and let him purchase the alligator instead of the mask. Good thing too because when we landed on the way home all of the stores were closed.

Here’s a happy pic of him with his pet alligator….

DSCN6918.jpg

DSCN6919.jpg

The boys playing by the window while we visited and had coffee….

DSCN6920.jpg

After drinking some coffee in the airport café’, we decided to get in line for security. Crazy thing was that at 10:30 there was still NO line. We walked right through and only had a problem when our laptops went through the scanner. I did not know that you had to take them out of the bags to go through. The security people were very friendly here and even joked with DS6 about how scary his alligator was and did he have a ticket for him.

We stopped for a quick lunch.

DSCN6922.jpg

DSCN6923.jpg

DS6 and I had hot dogs. Everyone else had Subway.

DSCN6924.jpg

My DS10 was given an extra cookie from the lady at Subway for “ordering so well”. We get this compliment often for the boys. They always order for themselves and they do a really good job at it. Unfortunately I think this speaks for my cooking abilities…..either way he enjoyed his extra cookie.

Now onto the gate where we would board the plane…..they called for all of the A’s to line up first. They also called for families of young children to line up as well. Since they didn’t classify extra what “young children” meant, we lined up too in hopes of getting on the plane sooner. It worked!! DH, DS10, DS6 and I were allowed to board and pick our seats after most of the A’s were let on. We were not able to find six seats together but at least we were able to sit with the kids!

Nannia and Poppa were able to get a seat right behind DS6 and I for the trip so we were all very close. My DH and DS10 in the seats in front of me and DS6 with Nannia and Poppa right behind us. If you remember from our PTR, Nannia had never flown. On the take off, she said, “This feels like a roller coaster ride and I don’t like it!!!!!” However, she put on a brave smile for her picture….

DSCN6927.jpg

First flight photo

DS6 watched Mario Brothers for most of the flight….

DSCN6928.jpg

It was a bumpy flight with slight turbulence the entire way. Our seatbelt sign only went off for a five minute period of time. For the rest of our flight, we were to remain seated because of the bumpiness. I don’t think Nannia enjoyed her first flight but it got us to …….

DSCN6929.jpg

YES!!!! We have arrived!!!! I think we were the last ones that they were waiting on because right after we loaded the bus took off for Disney!!!
I quickly took “on the Magical Express” pics!

DSCN6931.jpg

DSCN6932.jpg

DSCN6934-1.jpg

Soon we would be seeing…..

DSCN6935.jpg

Was it raining? Would we go to a park?

Huzzah for getting to leave earlier! :woohoo:

So glad that the library was able to extend your game! My DH is bad about not checking cases and I find movies/games later that he should have returned ... sometimes we even get a call. So thankfully most places are understanding, and glad your library is one of them! :yay:

So sorry that you had such a bad experience at this un-named seafood restaurant!

I've worked in several restaurants. The number one thing they ALL pounded into my head was: The customer is ALWAYS right. Even if they're wrong, they're ALWAYS right.

Your server should NOT be serving at all. I really hope you later contacted the establishment and notified a manager. I would have been fired for treating a table like that. It doesn't matter if the fish was good or bad, or what the server thinks. If a guest complains about a meal in any aspect, the chef or manager should visit the table and REPLACE the meal with something edible. I am so sorry you had such horrible service. Thankfully, I am no where near this place, so I will never encounter it, as I really wouldn't want to visit after your experience. (See, this is why the customer is always right -- because if they have a bad experience, they're going to let the world know and that's bad imaging for their brand. I'm not even a Marketing major and I know this. :lmao:)

I am so glad that no one got sick. I've always heard that fish should never smell fishy. Fishy fish is bad fish. :scared:

Well today is my sweet little one's 6th birthday!!! We have had a wonderful day of Mickey pancakes for breakfast, Brave at the theaters and his favorite restaurant for dinner. He has had a wonderful day!!

I'll try to post the next section later tonight or tomorrow!

Happy Birthday to the little one!!!!! :goodvibes I hope you all enjoyed Brave!!

Glad you had a nearly empty airport! Sorry that your DS wanted to run away because you did some parenting. :lmao: (I get it with my kiddos, too!) I am glad he chose the scary alligator instead! Sounds like a great compromise!

Also glad that you were able to board earlier than expected and were able to sit near each other, even if you weren't completely together! :thumbsup2

I've never flown, but DH was trying to talk to me about it the other day (not sure why) ... he mentioned it being similar to a roller coaster. I asked if it would be okay if I threw my arms up and yelled WOOOOOOOOO! He didn't think it was a great idea. (I'm terrified of flying, but I love roller coasters!)

Glad you all arrived safely! :goodvibes Anxious to hear what happens next! popcorn::

Other than the bad fish incident (which btw, I'm very glad no one got sick from!) it sounds like you guys all had a nice easy travel day so far!

Lidian, I hate flying. I think it's because I'm not in control and therefore could not help in an emergency. :lmao: Like I could help fly that thing anyways.....I'm always afraid of falling out of the sky!!!

Yep Teeka it was a smooth trip. I was so excited to be out of that airplane!!!

sorry the flight wasn't smoother. Hopefully the flight home was better. YIKES about the fish. :lmao: about your DS6 running away. My older ones used to say that sometimes. I used to offer to pack their bags. As they got older, I used to tell them they can take everything THEY own. Which meant little clothing as we had purchased most of it. ... come to think of if, now that they are 21 they never threaten to run away.:rotfl:

Your son looks so happy with his pet alligator. I love when we can give in and still win. (like the fact the airport shops were closed on the return trip).

I can't wait to hear more.

On our last update we had just arrived at Disney and had checked into our “home” for the week.

DSCN6935.jpg

I had taken a few pics of the room before we destroyed it but I always seemed to catch a blur of one of the kids running through in the photos so I’ll spare you. However, upon entering our room, DS6 started yelling, “Mom they gave us a surfboard!!!! We can go surfing!!!” Didn’t know Disney stocked the rooms with surfboards now did you?!??! (Picture of surfboard at the end of this update!)

Port Orleans French Quarter was a beautiful resort. I often caught myself stopping to take pictures as we walked on the grounds. We were in building 4 which was perfectly located near the bus stop and the main building. Here are a few of my pics from our walk to the bus stop after unloading our bags….

DSCN6953.jpg

DSCN6954.jpg

Where were we headed? Well to…..

DSCN6960.jpg

of course!!! Nothing like seeing that beautiful castle first on your trip!!

DSCN6965.jpg

You can see the bakery scrim in the right side of this picture. It stuck out so far that it covered up the castle in most of our pictures.

Nannia and Poppa went to look at sunglasses when we first got to MK so we ran ahead to get fastpasses for Buzz Lightyear. While waiting for Nannia and Poppa to meet us, we took this picture of the boys right by the bridge near Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor.

DSCN6966.jpg

Our first ride of the trip would be…….

DSCN6968.jpg

That’s right, the Peoplemover (or Tomorrowland as DS6 calls it).
Here are a few of our pics from the ride……

DSCN6972.jpg

AstroOrbiter…..DH has still never ridden it. Has anyone else ridden it? It seems like an awfully long line for such a short ride.

DSCN6991.jpg

Zzzeeeeee claw

After finishing our trip around Tomorrowland on the Peoplemover, we decided to ride……

DSCN6993.jpg

Yes that’s right, the wonderfully boring Tomorrowland Speedway. However, something happened here that would be a sign about the rest of our trip. One son grabbed Poppa, the other grabbed Nannia and that left DH and me to ride together. Instead we decided to sit this one out. I would skip this ride everytime if it were up to me!

DSCN6994.jpg

DSCN7000.jpg

DSCN7002.jpg

And, it was time for our fastpasses to Buzz so we hopped in the line and were immediately placed on the ride!

DSCN7004.jpg

DSCN7006.jpg

My score is that pitiful 47,100…..I tried to tell everyone that my “gun” wasn’t working right but they all thought I was simply a sore loser. Remember this as it will come up later!

DSCN7010.jpg

After saving the world and defeating Zerg, we grabbed fastpasses for Poppa and DH to go on Space Mountain. Then we got a quick bite to eat at Cosmic Rays and headed on our way. It had begun to drizzle while we were eating but I was determined NOT to let that stop us. We were going to just pull out our ponchos and keep riding rides. (Digging in the backpack…..looking around……”Did you pack the ponchos?” “No I thought you had.” “but….”)

Ugh, the ponchos are in our room….oh well it’s only drizzling. Surely it will be o.k. for tonight right?? With that we head off…..

Continued in next post

A very blurry view of the New Fantasyland construction….

DSCN7014.jpg

And a better view of it.

DSCN7015.jpg

As I was stopping to take those pictures it began to rain harder so Nannia and Poppa decided to get ponchos. I, however, did not want to spend that much on ponchos since we had them in the room and it was still a light rain. They offered the boys ponchos and DS6 said that he wanted one. DS10 surprisingly although usually the one who is fearful of weather declined.
After purchasing our ponchos, we went to watch my favorite show at MK – Mickey’s Philharmagic. We stopped in the shop to look around while it monsooned outside for a minute or two.

DSCN7019.jpg

The boys were playing with hats and posing with them. If you notice in this picture DS10 is STUCK in the hat. Yes he pulled it too far down and it’s now stuck over his face. Good mom that I am, I holler, “o.k. picture time!” We did help him out of it right afterwards!

DSCN7023.jpg

A sign of our days to come…..lots of ponchos!

DSCN7025.jpg

We snuck into a 10 minute wait It’s a Small World line and were pleasantly surprised to be able to watch the clock strike 8:00 p.m. while walking through. I had never seen it change hours but it chimes and other little things pop out. Really neat!

DSCN7026.jpg

DSCN7027.jpg

What a cutie sporting his poncho…..

DSCN7028.jpg

After It’s a Small World, we headed off to ride Pirates of the Caribbean but found a short Haunted Mansion line on the way and joined it. The boys LOVED going through the new graveyard (they were still working on it last time we were there).

DSCN7048.jpg

DSCN7050.jpg

I think we could have stayed here for forever. DS10 valiantly tried to keep all of the books pushed in. If you look closely, you can see that it is still lightly raining. Would there be fireworks? Would we wait around to see?

DSCN7051.jpg

While in the stretching room, DS6 loses his little mind, screaming and hollering, completely freaking out which is weird because he rode this last year and went through the stretching room. He was screaming about how he hated Disney and he had never wanted to come in the first place. He hollered at us that we were always bringing him on these scary rides and he didn’t even want to go to Disney ever again. DH agreed to take him out so they went to Yankee Trader to shop while we rode.

I had never seen the hitch-hiking ghosts part at the end of the ride. I don’t know if I just missed that whole scene last year or if it was down but I LOVED it!!!! This has become a favorite ride of mine after this year!

After the ride, we met up with DH who told me that there was something he really wanted at Yankee Trader. He wanted a Mickey head pancake shape so that DS6 could have Mickey pancakes at home. We did not buy it right away because we would be back. Would we see it again? Would we actually buy it?

Well I’ve reached the end of my post for now. I’ll bet you are wondering about that surfboard that Disney so kindly provided us to use. Yep here it is……

Hi  Joining in on your wet adventure.

Oh my goodness the surf board comment is too cute. Out of the mouths of babes.

So did they offer surf lessons to go along with that surf board? My fingers are crossed there will be a surf board in my room May 2013! :goodvibes

And I must say, I absolutely LOVE the pic of your youngest DS posing on the Tomorrowland Speedway! ADORABLE!!!!

Sorry about the rain. I hope you didn't have to endure much bad weather and hopefully it kept crowds at bay and didn't slow down your vacation! :thumbsup2

Also, I had no idea there was a clock at IASW. Let alone a clock that chimed and changed with displays! I guess you really do learn new things, even after thinking there was nothing left to learn. :lmao:

Anxious for more! ::yes::

:welcome: Yep, if you read the previous posts that spoke of how well they can order, you now know that I don't cook and I don't iron!!!! ;) I really should win that "Mom of the year" award!!

Oh I hope you get free surfing lessons too!! Believe it or not I actually used the surf board on our trip because there was no dryer in the room to dewrinkle our clothes.....:rolleyes1

The clock is in the waiting area directly across from where you walk in. I didn't know it chimed either but as I was taking pics of it, it struck 8:00 and went crazy. We loved it!

As for the rain......oh it rained......everyday rained......stormed and rained.....we'll say how we fared later on. (I'm just thankful I'm not at Disney this week. It seems that Debby is wreaking havoc on those poor people's vacations!)

I love your pictures of POR. We stayed there once about 9 years ago. I don't remember it looking as nice as it does now.

I too love the picture of your little one in the speedway car. I feel like you, I would live just fine with never riding that ride again, although I think I may have to this year as DD8 may be tall enough to "drive".
I like the picture of Nannia in the cage with your boys. That is a photo we get every year. It is so funny to see how much the kids have grown.

I hope you were able to get the MM pancake maker. DH makes them the old fashioned way...you know 1 big circle with the 2 smaller ears. The kids love them. Well, we all do. :) Is the one you were looking at/(bought?) a griddle or a cookie cutter type?

We sometimes like a little rain to ween down the crowds, but we have been there in a tropical storm (Gordon), they are not as much fun. But, it DID think down the lines. :rotfl:

I remember when we would take my Mom. At first when the little ones always wanted to ride with her, truth be told, my feelings were a bit hurt. Plus I didn't want her having ALL the fun seeing their expressions and us being on another cart. BUT I have to say, with her gone now, they are THE best memories for all of us. Hope you all enjoyed making your own memories.

Looking forward to reading more.

The pictures are of the French Quarter so maybe that's why they look different. Did you mean Riverside? We saw that too and boy it's nice but HUGE!!!!

The MM head maker thingie is a silicon (is that the name for that flexible rubber stuff that you can bake and cook with?) in the shape of Mickey ears. You put it in the pan you are cooking in and then pour your batter. It's really neat!

I did not mind the kids riding with their grandparents at all because we were able to really "see" the rides better when we didn't have to worry about the kids being scared or talking the whole time. ;)
