Boardwalk - feel like you are in the Shining?

I just got back from a week staying at the Boardwalk. It is very strange with the long hallways and lack of elevators. I kept going down stairs and ending up in strange places like on Boardwalk when i wanted to go the pool. Or I would end up in the courtyard when I was trying to get to fitness room.

The hallways are really long and look like a 1920's old hotel. It is strange. And reminds me of the movie the Shining. My sister kept saying "Redrum, Redrum" the entire time we were there. Plus that giant clown in the pool area isn't that comforting.

And, have you seen those two creepy chairs in the lobby by the Elephant and the fireplace? They are like the two twin girls in the movie.

I am just having a little fun. We loved our week there. The boardwalk is gorgeous and the pool area is shady and nice. We love this resort. But I did hear other people comment on the similarities to the Shining. Let's just say if Jack Nicholson showed up, I would have to leave! ;)

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

BWI is a gorgeous resort, but that clown gives me the heebie jeebies every time! :scared1: Now all I will be able to think when I'm there is redrum, redrum!

I know!

ok i will cross this hotel off my list lol

:)

My Son decided to read an agatha Christie book while there, it does feel like a good place for a murder mystery! I guess I am not helping.

I may have a photograph of the twin chairs.

Someone thinks this is scary?

We stayed for a week at the Boardwalk Inn Innkeepers Club Feb 2011. That is exactly what my husband said about the Shining, especially when we would be greeted by the one CM at the Innkeeper's Club desk. :rotfl: We were the second to last room in that Loooong hallway. They really need more elevators, the hallways go on forever.....Beautiful Hotel, but I think if was a one and done for us...

OMG!! It's those scary eyes!! It's so creepy!! :scared1: Yea.. I would also like to cross this one off my list!

I love the boardwalk and I love the hotel in the shining. I never thought of the similarities, but you're right. Even the music!

Yes even the music! Maybe it would be fun to take guests to WDW stay at the Boardwalk but have them watch the Shining and It before they come. :wizard: Then wish them sweet dreams.

I always feel I am in some sort of Fun house that is not really fun. I get completely turned around.

Also, I think it is odd that I can't get into the lobby from the stores on the boardwalk. You would think they were connected, but obviously not. They aren't really near each other.

The hallways have always confused me, it is my least favorite resort.
I have stayed at all the deluxe hotels at WDW, and frankly speaking I really don't see where the hallways at BWI are any longer or more confusing than those at the BC or YC, for example. It all depends where your room is in relation to the elevators. If you want a long walk, how about going from the Tahiti building at the Poly to the GCH. WDW should run buses because that is one long walk. Or, try walking from Coach Key at the GF to the lobby of the hotel. Both are not fun to do, particularly if it's raining outside.

never thought of it that way. The chairs in the lobby just remind me of the freaky-odd decoration that a local chain of brewpubs and B&Bs out here in the Pacific NW (McMenamins) has. At their hotel in McMinnville, OR (home of a UFO festival each year) they have this one painting at the foot of the stairs on a landing that looks JUST like a depiction of Children of the Corn....

And I was pleasantly surprised by the clown pool! I was prepared to go to the quiet pool, because I'm very clown-o-phobic, but I liked the dude. Even felt sorry for him. After all, think about what slides down his tongue all day, every day....

And it's a *fabulous* slide.

The stores are on level 1, and the lobby is level 2. Could that be your confusion?? :confused3
From any villa room, you take the elevator to level 1 and that leaves you by the gym- walk outside and you have the pool to your left, the boardwalk to your right.

I used to work at boardwalk and occasionally deliver DME documents or room bills overnight- I would walk every single floor and hallways from beginning to end on both the inn and villas. Would easily take 2 hours!
Yes, they are long hallways, but nothing compared to what you walk in the parks ;)

I'll tell you though, walking through the villas hallways at 3am was creepy! Seeing that clown glaring through a window or a random guest walk by unexpectedly would totally catch me off guard. Loved the job and resort, but glad I've moved on :)

Hey, the hotel from the movie is in Oregon! Coincidence? I think not. :)

I wouldn't say it is the long walk. I would say it is the narrow hallways, not many views to the outside, hidden stairwells, and when you find the stair cases the stairwells look like closets or utility areas that lead to odd places.

I stayed on the villa side facing the clown pool, so maybe the Inn side was different.
