Ok, here is my scenario. I have a feb UY and i have a feb 2013 vacation planned using current UY points. I am in the process of buying an April UY contract which has banked points that will expire on March 31, 2013. Once my points become available will i be able to swap in the banked points from my new contract and have my current UY to use later or bank? or will i have to cancel my ressie and hope it doesn't get taken in that minute or 2? or do i have to just plan a march vacation with banked

Is the new contract for the same resort? If so you should be able to swap points without canceling and rebooking. I have found some CMs at MS are more knowledgable about this process than others, so if you call and get someone who doesn't seem to understand, hang up and call back or ask for a supervisor. Agree with Jean. If it's same Home resort, it should not be an issue.

However if the Home resorts are different you will have to wait until 7 months out to make the change. And even then if often depends upon whether there is remaining availability at 7 months.

Booking a stay 11 months out and then switching to another resorts' points at 7 months is viewed as a circumvention of the Home resort booking rules. They will normally only do that if availability remained at 7 months and you could have booked then using the non-Home points.

If you have enough points in the new contract, just make a second, duplicate, reservation. If it works out ok, then cancel the original one.

I just did this online for a similar problem. The system didn't balk at the duplicate names on the second reservation.

I have an existing reservation at BLT in just over 100 days. Used 232 banked 2011 and 46 2012 points, all BLT points. I am in ROFR for BCV, same UY (Feb) and when/if it comes through I will have 160 banked 2011 points that must be used by Jan 31. I would like to be able to reallocate those 46 points back to BLT by using the BCV points. Is this possible?

To make matters even more interesting, we may have to move our vacation 1 week earlier or later for medical reasons, won't know for sure for another month. In that case I know I would not be able to keep the BLT reservation. I figure we will end up at SSR or OKW. Might they be able to do this reallocation easier if we actually cancel BLT and rebook at another resort?

That does make sense, and i did not even think of the 7month circumvntion aspect. i guess we will see what happens. and maybe if there is availability elsewhere i can do that and cancel original. Oh the ins and outs of ownership

I don't think they will allow the reallocation if you booked your BLT reservation more than 7 months ahead because that would be circumventing the 11/7 month window rule. You will have to hope that there is availability for your same reservation when you call to try to reallocate. Good luck!

Thanks so much Jean, I did make that reservation at 11 months and did not consider that would be circumventing the rules. Just trying to make the best use of my points. But if I do have to move our vacation, cancel BLT and move to another resort, do you think I can do this?

As long as you cancel by 31 days out andyou are within your banking window, your current BLT points will be available to bank and you can use the banked points anywhere for 7 months or less out, before they expire. Good luck! Wasting points is unthinkable!!!

If your new contract is a different UY than the first one, and you want to use banked points, you won't be able to do a point reallocation since these will be two different memberships.

The only way to use another memberships points for a reservation would be to transfer them and banked points can not be transferred.

So, you will have to try and book it with the new membership and then cancel out the other one.

I'd suggest the OP call MS and tell them what they want, I'm sure they can work it out as long as it's the same home resort or the original reservation were made within 7 months out. Yes, this is correct. One or the other of the 2 reservations would need to be canceled to free up points to do the swap. You wouldn't want to cancel the Oct. reservation so you are lucky that the May reservation has availability. I once wanted to swap points between reservations because there was a possibility that we would need to cancel one reservation and I wanted that reservation to be the one using bankable points. I could not do the swap until such time as we actually canceled one reservation. It makes sense, actually. There isn't a way to swap points if there are no available points to swap.

There are less options here. You could cancel and they could try to book right at that moment and try to get what you canceled, risky but possible. You could potentially transfer the points to your account then sub them into the reservation. You could let them use it then make a replacement reservation using their points. You could rent it to them. This should cover most options but there may be some variations and in between options as well.
