NY to Castaway Cay May 25th Magic TR- updated June 9th!

This is my husband and our dearly loved Brittany spaniel, Eddie. Our dog passed away this winter. We miss him.

What a sweet picture. Sorry for your loss. Our dog just passed 2 months ago.

We are doing the NYC cruise in August. I am loving your trip report. :thumbsup2 It is our first Disney cruise too.

I may have missed this, but where were you driving from and what route did you take? 18 mins = 2 hours is ridiculous even for NY traffic!

We were coming in from Long Island City, there was an accident as well.

We had the 7:15am bus to Animal Kingdom. Topsider's opened at 5:45am for the early departure guests (there were alot of people up & about!). The buses were delayed a little but due to an accident but we were on our way pretty quickly. Much more efficient than the Blue Lagoon line ups! Tip: Be sure to bring your bus tickets (given out the first day). They do look for them. Your key to the world cards are your park passes but you cannot charge on them. We lovingly referred to them as our "keys to bankruptcy" by the end of the cruise.:rotfl:
The drive was pleasant, no time at all and we were at the gates to AK...just in time for the rope drop!
We went directly to the safari while my DH went to Expedition Everest & got fastpasses.
The safari was very good. As it was early, we saw a lot of animals.

There is a lioness bathing in the sun...

The Tree of Life.

cruise2012168.jpg
[/IMG]
We saw the Flights of Wonder and then went to my favourite Disney show- The Festival of the Lion King!

cruise2012173.jpg
[/IMG]
It amazes me every time I see it! The music, the costuming, the acrobats! My kids were chosen to "celebrate".

[/IMG]

My DS was thrilled...

We ate lunch at The Rainforest...just in time too, as the sky opened and there was a downpour! It didn't last long and we didn't see another drop for the rest of our vacation.
We took the bus to Magic Kingdom with plans to do Splash Mountain, Space Mtn, Mickey's Philharmagic, and see the fireworks.
It was very crowded and VERY hot
cruise2012181.jpg
[/IMG]
Unbearably hot!
We waited in line a while for Splash Mtn and then it was closed! There had been people waiting for 2 hrs. I felt bad for them.
We had a Dole Whip....soooooo yummy! We then made the executive decision to return to the ship. It was 3 pm and we couldn't imagine waiting around for another 6 hours for the fireworks....everything was so busy and sooooo hot! We all had sunburns from our day at Castaway, despite the many applications of SPF 60. We are a fair bunch! The allure of the Magic was just too sweet!
cruise2012183.jpg
[/IMG]
So we jumped on the bus back! The bus was waiting and there were cast members handing out cold water and welcoming us back. We felt very VIP! The cool bus was relieving!
Back to Port Canaveral! We were excited to see the model of the Magic and the big ears!

Once back to the ship, we had dinner at Parrot Cay- buffet style. The boys went to see the movie Avengers 3D, DD went to the club. I was all alone and enjoyed a latte and a good book at Cove Cafe (until a man came in & proceeded to carry on a long, loud conversation on his cell phone!). Thank goodness there is limited cell reception at sea.
I know many stayed for the fireworks and had no difficulty making the buses back to the ship.
I was very content and happy despite missing the fireworks. The feeling of a Disney cruise is difficult to capture but it is a feeling of walking in the halls, hearing the soft Disney songs from my childhood. It's the smiles and friendliness from the crew. It's seeing the characters interacting with young & old, it's the attention to detail- from the cleanliness to the towel animals. It even smells magical! I may or may not have shed a tear in one of these quiet moments.:lovestruc

Loving your trip report and pictures. You're a couple of days ahead of me - I've only got up to Nassau on mine (well, will be typing it up shortly!). It was such a fabulous cruise, we enjoyed every minute.

It is very difficult to lose a pet. I think the cruise was a good thing to look forward to, to get us threw those awful days of missing him.

Day 7?! Oh my gosh! Where has the time gone? No time for sleep! Up and at 'em! I had a quiet breakfast by myself at Topsider's (oatmeal again!) as the rest of my family were sleeping.
I went to the "Art of Entertaining" where once again, my expectations were exceeded. This was at Studio Sea and we were learning how to make Apple Strudel.

They played "Be My Guest" as an intro to the class (Disney touch!).

The chef demonstrated the making of the dessert but also talked of the the way the kitchens are run, the amount of food they go through, etc. It was very interesting.

The wine steward also explained the wine pairing with the dessert. Yum!

(another Disney touch- the monitors displaying the Art of Disney with the stars shining and then close ups of the chef's preparation)

We spent most of the day on deck 10 by the Goofy pool. The kids were in and out of the clubs. It was by far one of my most favourite days. I was in the vacation mode, I knew my way around the ship and just felt relaxed.

At one point, we noticed the ship had started to turn. It was then followed by the "when you wish upon a star" tune and an announcement that a life raft had been spotted and we were turning to be sure it was abandoned. The life raft came into view and thank goodness, there was no one inside. whew.

The pool was relatively quiet at this point as the early dinner seating was starting. This was my only major complaint of the entire Disney cruise. The Goofy pool is not supervised. There are clearly "no jumping" signs posted around the pool. However, there were many kids jumping and pushing each other into the pool. You can see this as being very dangerous when the pool is packed. I saw a lot of kids coming from the pool, crying and holding onto their heads. I'm not sure where the parental supervision was but I really think there needed to be a crew member there to control the chaos.
Rant over!

Ahhhhh! And back to the relaxation!

cruise2012205.jpg

And a photo op with Mickey!

cruise2012198.jpg
[/IMG]

We went to the Dreams show. I was completely entralled by this show. I will try not to give anything away but bubbles, and snow, and Tinkerbell's magic! Oh my!! It was truly magical, gave me goosebumps, and made me cry.

We all went to Rockin Bar D to see John Charles, a guitar playing comedian. He was good. I captured one of my favourite pictures on our way there.

cruise2012210.jpg
[/IMG]

We had the Captain's gala dinner at Parrot Cay and then DH & I went to the adult show of Alfred & Seymour. Hilarious! Super, super funny! Once again- tip- don't be late! :goodvibes

Kids slept in again, DH went to the fitness room. He was very good at keeping his motivation during vacation! He also liked the showers there!
I went to another Art of Entertaining. This one was for the mushroom risotto (which is so good!). I enjoyed it.

We were going to the pool when we cam across Minnie at the elevators. A magical moment and a great picture...

DD spent the of the day at the kids club. They prepared for and performed Friendship Rocks at the Walt Disney Theater. It was cute and she really liked it.

DS stayed busy at the Edge and hanging around. DH & I spent some more time on Deck 10, relaxing and enjoying each other's company.

We were thrilled to get two gifts from Disney for being the first to sail from NYC. A clock and a print signed by Don Williams.

As we were getting ready for the show, we heard an announcement that the propeller had stopped working. I was hoping for some extra pixie dust and hoped to be stranded at sea for another day or two! Alas, after a couple of hours, we were back on course.
My DS at Walt Disney Theater. It was Remember the Magic show tonight. Another great show!

Our final dinner was at Lumiere's. It was sad. Our servers, Raquel from Portugal and Natalie from Trinidad really made our week very special. I can't say enough good things about them, especially what they sacrifice to be on the cruise. My DS really liked Raquel and had a great time ordering from the menu at her suggestions. He tried everything and ate so much! He gained 5 lbs ( and that's a lot for him!). Natalie was always giving us crayon games and doing tricks for us. She is so friendly and warm.

Which brings me to our stateroom host, Albert. He was just great. He always had ice in the room, always had an extra blanket on the bed, and was so friendly. We usually had 2 or 3 different towel animals every day! The kids loved them!

cruise2012238.jpg
[/IMG]

We went to the Till We Meet Again in the atrium. It was a chance for DD to see some more characters and get their autogragh. They did a little farewell show on the steps and pixie dust fell from the ceiling! Sweet!

[/IMG]

I woke early and went to deck 4 to watch us docking. The captain swung that ship in there so neatly!

cruise2012253.jpg
[/IMG]

We finished packing and went to breakfast at Lumiere's. It was quiet. Said good bye to our servers. We had to wait in Rockin Bar D to disembark and then it was over. Sad.

It was exciting to see the families arriving to get on board. And we did rebook. We just did a dummy cruise and will wait to see the sailings in 2014.

We had to stop at American Girl for my DD before we left NYC.

And then it was a long, long drive home.

The End!

DD's dress from semi-formal night... did you make that?? it is adorable!

Thanks! I actually bought it online. It is home made and I have made her similar dresses before but I just didn't have the time. It is cute!

Thank you so much for sharing your trip!!! I loved reading/seeing all the pictures. 7 weeks today and I'll be at the Sail-a-way party!! :)

Jealous of your towel animal from day 7!!! I looooove the towel animals, and I went to the class on how to make them (but I wasn't very good!)!

I wish I'd gone to some of the classes on how to make the food (especially the mushroom risotto, as I had that a lot and really liked it).

Glad you had a great time! I know you are probably very sad for it to be over so quickly! Love DD hair, it came out great!

2014 seems so far away, doesn't it?

Whoo Whoo!!
We were on the same Cruise!!
Wasn't it just fabulous from the the Sail away party down the Hudson to all the Ignaugeral gifts to the pampering to the food!!
I would definetly do it again!!

This is so funny....we were on the 7:15 bus to Animal Kingdom and rode the Safari first then EE.!!!!

I enjoyed your TR and I would love to sail out of NYC, but we are 5 hours from Port Canaveral. DH would not go for that.

This is so funny....we were on the 7:15 bus to Animal Kingdom and rode the Safari first then EE.!!!!

Do you remember seeing us? I can't really see your photo in your signature line but I think I noticed your girls. Did you stay on deck 10 a lot of the time?
