Good morning everyone! We have been home for a week and things are pretty settled here so I thought I had better get this TR started!
To all of our friends who have followed us in the past, we are so happy that you're back! To all the new friends we will hopefully meet, welcome!
First, let me introduce ourselves to those of you who don't know us. Now before I proceed.....my daughter and I were having a conversation about the beginning of this TR and she thinks at 19 that I can and should be using her real name now You all know her as Jasmine here on the boards but her real name is Shanleigh...so feel free to use either! I am Queen of all Things here but my first name is Jacquie.
On with the report!!!! We would be heading to our favourite happy place from May 19-June 2 and we would be staying at Pop Century! I decided to take Friday May 18 off of work to finish all last minute packing things and for Shanleigh and I to have our manicures and pedicures nice and fresh for the trip. This is a tradition for us whenever we go to Disney and something we both look forward to!!
We were up bright and early in anticipation of the day! We headed out at 8am for our 9am appointments because the first order of business was stopping at Starbucks and Tim Horton's....Starbucks for Shan and Timmies for me! We ended up running behind a little (I am one of those people who is ALWAYS early and can't stand being late) so I was having a bit of an OCD moment once we hit Tim's because the drive thru live was so long. Shan jumped out and ran in to grab my coffee which I thought was very considerate of her considering it was the extra long line at Starbuck's that made us late in the first place We arrived at the salon at two minutes past 9 for our appts and I apologized up and down....Tammy just laughed at me. Here is Jasmine enjoying her morning of being pampered!
My BFF met us at the salon to see us off and slipped Shan some spending money for her trip! She was to have joined us for lunch after, however, she was having unexpected company on the weekend and had to get things in order so off she went and we headed to our favourite little spot for lunch!
Shan`s friend Carrie-Lynn met us for lunch and we had a ball. I was already being challenged about remembering to take pictures (this would become a re-occuring trend thruout the trip) so this was the only one I got.....as we were leaving! Now look closely at this picture.....can you believe that Carrie is almost eight months pregnant...she looks amazing!!! We also had a great time shopping for this little lady, yes, it`s a girl!!!!!
After a delicious lunch we thought since it was almost 3 pm that we should head home and get some things done! When we got into the car Shan was telling me that Jeff was a little nervous about taking us to the airport in the middle of the night and not really knowing where he was going. You see, a year ago, our new airport opened so it would be our first time here! We live 10 minutes from there so on our way home from lunch we decided we would swing by so we could put his mind at ease of how easy it would be to get outta there at 330am
Our wonderful new airport sign!
Arrivals and Departures....we decided these pictures wouldn`t turn out in the middle of the night so we would take them now!
The main terminal! Easy as pie and in the end he did just fine! We headed home and before we knew it Peg and her family and my dad all arrived to spend some time with us before our 2 weeks away! Again, did I think to take pictures here, of course not!! We had a great evening and my dad decided to head out about 730pm but the rest stayed to watch Undercover Boss! The skies started to turn very ugly by 8 so they thought they better hit the road. They no sooner walked out the door and the skies opened.....Shan and I looked at each other and thought we better get our butts in gear in case we lost power! The week before one of the transformers down the road from us blew (scared the begebes out of us) so we thought doing last minutes things by candlelight probably not the best idea!
The final order or business....attaching the ME tags to our luggage! Jeff arrived from work shortly after this and we were set for the evening.
All done! The kids decided they were going to try and sleep and I knew at best, I would catch a few moments just lying on the couch. Before I knew it my phone was telling me it was 1am and time to jump into the shower! Shan got up shortly after me and we let Jeff sleep until 10 minutes before we were ready to leave.
Two weeks without seeing each other.....one last hug before leaving the house!
We were so excited but we decided we would hold our excitement until we were at the airport because we felt so bad that Jeff wasnt coming with us. For 3 am we actually look pretty alert dont we
Because we are classified as international we decided that Jeff should just drop us at the door because we would have to clear security and customs as soon as we went in. I left them to have their final moments together and when my darling came into the airport the tears were streaming down her face. I felt so bad knowing how hard this was and how much she was going to miss him. I also knew once we were there, she would be fine!
There were no agent out yet (they came out at 4am) so I decided how hard could self check in be.....well, clearly at 345am I am not at my best and couldnt figure out how our passports went in. A lovely young man helped me and all was good! We paid for our one checked bag each and we were off to drop our luggage and head thru security.
When we got to the drop off place, the young man that was working saw our ME tags and yelled YOURE GOING TO DISNEY....and we laughed!!! He then asked Shan is we were going to Aquatica and how awesome it was and that it was the best time he had had...to which we replied no, we are not going there. He was so funny! He looked at Shanleigh and said, it actually is not all its cracked up to be, the lazy river was boring after sitting in a tube for 2 hours and on and on. We had a great time laughing with him!
While waiting for the doors to open to security I took this shot of the arrivals part of the new terminal. Both Shan and I were chosen for the full body scan and then it was off to customs...no issues, perfect, on to wait to board!
A former colleague of mine ended up being on our same flight to Minneapolis so we were chatting about their trip when I glanced up at the clock and it was 610am.....wait a minute, we were supposed to depart at 615am, why aren't we boarding!! Turns out the crew is missing, yup, that's what the agent said, the crew is missing! WHAT??? I tried to remain calm thinking where could they be, they must have missed their alarm. Before long they found them and it turned out they thought their report time was 615 not departure time! Before we knew it they had us on board
The Antanov (sp?) sitting on the runway and Shanleigh got this pic as we were speeding down the runway! That monster shakes our whole house when it takes off, but what an amazing bird it is!!!
We landed in Minneapolis at 8am and our connecting flight wasnt until 1010am so we weren`t in a hurray to get off the plane or to get to our next gate. We decided breakfast at Chili`s would be nice so we split, eggs, bacon and potatoes (those potatoes were so yummy) grab a starbucks and we were set for the next leg of our journey! Here is our plane
I thought I would take this just as we were going to get up and board!
Both flights were uneventful and flew by (no pun intended...ok, well maybe a little). Shanleigh took this from the tram
I took this of her on the tram....we were so excited to be home!!!!
As we were getting off the plane we must have had that - we know where we are going and what we are doing look because a young couple thought we were from there and could we help them get to ME because it was their first trip...so sweet. They walked with us and we wished each other well and we were off to Pop before we knew it
Our chariot that would take us to Pop
First sign that we saw that told us our final destination
I thought this sign was so funny because it was so small. This was a different route for us so we were taking it all in
Finally the sign we waited to see since our last trip.........
