Ticket Price Increases for Disneyland Announced

I suspect a lot of the AP price increase has to do with trying to actually bring down the number of annual passholders, since having 900,000+ APs out there has caused some logistics problems for them. With plans for several visits I was able to justify $500 for a premium AP, but an extra $150 on top of that would be really tough, especially since I live over 1,000 miles away.

It wouldn't quite be the same thing as APs, but I wonder if adding a non-expiration option to Disneyland tickets would work?

I like that idea! For us, if we want to make two or two visits in a year we have to chose between buying park hoppers at $250-290 times two or AP's at $499-649. If they offered, say, a ten visit, no expiration ticket for somewhere between a five day hopper and an AP price, people could afford to make several trips in a year but it wouldn't add to the number of AP holders that fill the parks. even if a ticket like that had a 12 or 24 month window it would help people like us who live close enough to come a couple times a year, but not close enough to come every weekend. Come on Disney, why are you driving folks like us away?

Pissed about the increase....4 year AP holder here and back in college had a WDW one for 4 years....

That makes sense.... However why do away with the 6 day ticket? Now we are down to 5 day max.... What is next 3 or 4 day max?

My guess would be just like anything in life, as long as someone is willing to pay then prices will continue to rise.

I can remember paying 5 cents for a loaf of bread, yesterday I paid $3.59. Gas used to be 25 cents a gallon, today I paid $4.29. My first house I paid $32,000 the one I live in now $170,000.

DH and I got our PAP in May and paid $499 each for them. We will attend approximately 25 days in 4 different trips this year. So that is $19.96 each day per person. Not bad in my eyes. Even at the $649 it would be $25.96 per person each day. Again not bad. We would be taking those 4 vacations even if we did not go to DLR.

I think $20-26 for a days entertainment is pretty darn cheap. We pay waaaay more than that to attend a local ball game.

Once again as long as people will pay the prices will reflect that fact.

Still a bargain is 100% dependent on what you are getting for the money. If you are a local that will go to Disneyland 50-100 times in a year, then $650 for a PAP may be a good value.

For an out of towner like me that would drive the 6 hours from Phoenix to Anaheim 3-4 times a year for 2-3 days at a time, my 10-12 days a year in the park does not justify $470 for a DAP.

And, if it is really a parking issue as Al Luts claims, hint... I stayed at hotels in the area and walked to the resort.

What these price increases will do is drive away people like me that came from out of town several times a year, stayed at hotels, ate meals, bought souvenEARs, etc., while not making a dent in the number of super rabid fans that are likely causing the bulk of the traffic, parking and crowding issues.

Disney is using a shotgun to chase away a fly.

I used to do a PAP every year. Then I downgraded to DAP. Then I downgraded to DAP every other year. This is the year we had planned on buying 7 DAPs. Well, not going to. Probably won't go to Disneyland at all for the next couple years, then maybe a 3-day hopper.

They have priced me out. I will find other things to do with my vacation dollars.

That's pretty expensive ticket for a average ticket to a baseball game. I never pay more than $12. Only the most expensive third of major league stadium seats cost >$25.96 (per day cost for a PAP holder who goes 25 times per year). And if you can't be in Disneyland 25 days in a single year, the average cost goes way up.

And parking is more expensive at Disney. And food is also more expensive at Disney, although at some parks certain items are similarly priced.

Well, it appears the complaining phase is over and people are lining back up to get their APs. Disney is rarely wrong in knowing how much they can raise prices without losing money.

I think it remains to be seen how many will renew their APs at the new prices. Should be interesting!

Right. I'm afraid that 90% of the APs renew at current prices, Disney will decide that they weren't successful in raising prices enough to relieve the pressure on the park infrastructure. And then they'll try again next year with even bigger price increases.

So here's hoping we see a dramatic decrease in AP renewals. I'll do my part

I am not sure if someone posted this before but I discovered that you can only renew you AP if it's within 40 days of expiring. This was a shock to me since I tried to renew my AP before the price increase but I was told no because my AP doesn't expire until Feb 2013.

Yes, that is correct. The only way around this is to buy an AP voucher, let your old AP expire, and get a new AP by using the voucher. And I believe you must use the voucher by the end of 2012.

I didn't read through all 25 pages of this thread so I apologize if this has been asked already -- we did a Costco package for our trip this June and chose the "City Pass" option which comes with 3-day PH tickets. The rep at Costco Travel said the ONLY way I could upgrade those to 5-day Park Hopper tickets would be to go to some stand only when we are at DL (or DTD?). It's too late to beat the increase now, but I'm just wondering if there was some way I could have upgraded to a 5-day Park Hopper online or over the phone?

I ordered 5 deluxe passes right before the price increase. Got my confirmation #, got the E tickets, and then this morning they refunded the money back into my bank account. I guess I better call them. Has this happened to anyone else?

No you can't upgrade over the phone, only in person.

Well my bank thought it was an unauthorized payment for some strange reason. And the money was out for over a week. Thought it kind of strange but Disney fixed it for me. I have to hold on to the new confirmation number as I no longer have E tickets. No straight through the turnstiles for us! But at least it is fixed.

And it is a question that may have been asked on this board before but I am having difficulty finding it. One of the local grocery chains here tend to leave out admission tickets with old prices well after Disney has increased prices. I may sound a bit cheap on this but I wanted to see if anyone knew if Disneyland would honor the ticket price if the ticket was purchased after a date took effect? The tickets aren't authorized until you purchase them so I am not sure that Disney would want the difference when we got there. Not trying to beat on the mouse too much, but we are looking at this being our last trip there if the increases continue. It may even be a gamble to see if they do it again this year but I thought I would ask. That was what is being saved can gain a few more pennies before the trip...lol
