Trip Details

When: May 6th – 13th
Where: Port Orleans Riverside
Why: To celebrate my graduation from college! I graduated on May 5th and we took off for WDW early the next morning.

Background

My whole family absolutely loves Walt Disney World. This was our 25th trip and we had a fantastic time! It was especially wonderful because we were able to share everything with my best friend. She had a truly magical experience and I’m so glad she was able to join us.

My family loves to eat, but we are not really foodies. We enjoy a burger and fries almost as much as dining at a fancy restaurant. I am a more adventurous eater than anyone in my family and I also love to cook and bake, which comes in handy when trying to recreate recipes from WDW at home. As a side note, my mother has a stomach condition and has to be careful about what she eats. Sometimes she orders kids meals since the portion sizes are smaller and the food is pretty mild. Laura on the other hand, is always ready to try new food. She also loves honey and various other healthy foods as you will soon see.

We have never gotten the dining plan, as it really doesn’t fit into our touring style. We don’t really plan which park we are going to until the day before and only schedule a few table service restaurants each trip. We also don’t like to get too full on food because we often go commando style (lots of walking and little sleep!), so we tend to share bigger meals and get a snack later on.

You can probably tell by now that I love Pirates of the Caribbean. So, it is now time to divulge my rating scale based on my favorite movie series.

Rating Scale

jack.jpg

Captain Jack Sparrow
The Captain is intelligent, cunning, and witty, making him quite a clever pirate. Oh, and did I happen to mention how attractive he is? :lovestruc
This is one of the best meals you have ever had in your entire life. You often spend time dreaming of this food and try to recreate it at home. This is definitely a must do on your next trip!

barbossa.jpg

Hector Barbossa
An excellent pirate and swordsman, Barbossa is definitely someone to watch out for.
This is a good, solid meal. It is pretty gosh darn tasty, and something you would try again.

blackbeard.jpg

Blackbeard
The one pirate that all pirates fear. Blackbeard is downright evil, greedy, and ruthless.
This is a terrible meal and one you would never want to eat again.

Now that we have discussed the rating scale, I believe it is time to begin the reviews. So hop aboard and weigh anchor, as we set sail to the most magical place on earth! :sail:

Ahoy there! I just updated the itinerary to include all the places we dined at. I also included a link at the bottom for my new blog: The Wildest Blog in the Wilderness.

Thanks! That's very exciting - college was some of the best years of my life. If you are your daughter has any questions, let me know! And yes, that's exactly what I am doing - graduating, then doing the DCP. I think it's a great option that allows you to concentrate on school, so you won't have to graduate late. Hope you enjoy my blog :)

Day 1 – Dinner

We woke up early on May 6th to begin our journey to Walt Disney World. And when I say early, I mean the super early time of 3 am. We were on the road by 4, stopped at McDonalds for a quick breakfast around 8, and ate homemade pb&j sandwiches for lunch at the Georgia welcome center. At 5:00 we reached our destination: Port Orleans Riverside. After checking in, we hopped on the boat to Downtown Disney. Our first stop upon arrival was Earl of Sandwich.

We walked in the door and found an incredibly long line that wrapped around the entire eatery. It stretched all the way to the kitchen store near the back of EOS. If this happens to you, don’t be intimated! We hopped in line and basically had just enough time to figure out what we wanted. The line moved very quickly and in a very short time we had our dinner.

I went with The Earl’s Club - roast turkey, smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce and roma tomato and sandwich sauce:

Yum! This was absolutely delicious. I don’t know how they do it, but these sandwiches are always amazing. The bread is crispy on the outside, yet soft on the inside – in one word: perfect. The sandwich sauce was really good, however I’m not really sure what it was composed of. The only thing I didn’t like were the tomatoes, which I gave to Laura, who happily added them to her salad.

And speaking of Laura, here is her order:

100_3385.jpg

Chinese Chicken Salad - grilled chicken, Field greens and Romaine lettuce, Chinese mix, crispy won tons, fresh soy ginger dressing.
Cute presentation, huh? She loved this, especially the dressing. I tried some and agreed with her 100%. If you like ginger, then I guarantee you will love this. It was incredibly light and refreshing, probably one of the best I have ever had.

My Mom didn’t want an entire sandwich, so she ordered the Kid’s Roasted Turkey and Swiss:
100_3391.jpg

This was the perfect size for her and just as delicious as one of the full sized sandwiches.

Andrew went with the following:
100_3387.jpg

Ham and Swiss - Roasted Ham with Swiss cheese and Earl's mustard sauce
He thought this was good, but probably wouldn’t order it again. He didn’t care for the mustard sauce, which was a tad strong and overpowering.

And last but not least, here is what my Dad's sandwich:
100_3390.jpg

The Original 1762 - fresh roasted beef, cheddar and creamy horseradish sauce
He normally orders the meatball sandwich, but decided to go with this little beauty as soon as he saw horseradish in the description. My dad absolutely loves horseradish and thought this sandwich was perfect.

We also got a bag of EOS kettle cooked chips:
100_3389.jpg

These were good kettle chips. Very crunchy and a good addition to any sandwich.

And a Triple Chocolate Brownie:
100_3393.jpg

100_3396.jpg

This is basically two brownies sandwiched together with a marshmallow crème. This was really good, but very rich. We split this into fifths, which I thought was the perfect amount.

Overall, we all agreed that Earl of Sandwich deserves a…

If you are ever in DTD and need a place to eat, go to EOS. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

Up Next: A tasty treat

Count me in!! Looking forward to your reviews.

My DD is only 11, but I'm already hoping that she will do the college program! :goodvibes I'll definitely be following your blog. Good luck!
