"I Don't Wanna Meet Mickey In a Frumpin' Poncho!" An August 2011 TR! COMPLETE 11/30

Chapter 1- And So It Begins...

August 14th and 15th, 2011

Hey there readers! I apologize BIG TIME for my absence, but it just so happens that my life EXPLODED once Spring Break ended. With only 9 (yes NINE! SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!!!) days to go until Jess and I are headed to Disney, I wanted to get an update or two in before I go!

As you may or may not have read in Jess' trip report, I was staying at her house for a few days and we did ours and some of our friends' nails in Disney style. I, however, did not suspect in the least that Jess was doing hers because she was actually GOING to Disney. Some things just go right over my head. Here's the final product:

From left to right: Seagulls from Finding Nemo, (MINE! MINE!) Nemo himself, the UK flag, Donald Duck and the Monorail.

From left to right: 101 Dalmations, Snow White, Toy Story Clouds, Tigger, and Space Mountain.

Aren't they so fun!? I love doing my nails for Disney. It really gets me in the spirit!!

So, on the actual day BEFORE D-Day, (AKA Disney-Day) I slept in a little bit and then went to church with my brother, Mike. It may have been my imagination, but to me the priest sounded a lot like Rex! Mike agreed, though, so it must have been true.

After that, we came home and I surfed the DIS for a little while. I updated my July trip report and started packing!

Yes, I know, I procrastinate. I ALWAYS pack the day before. I'm so weird.

I also compiled some Disney music onto CD's for the car ride!

While packing, I had to make sure I included the custom park maps I ordered! Not like I need them...I just LOVE to look at them!

I also selected one of these to put on my luggage:

Old school, I know, but I LOVED Celebrate Today!

I also snacked on one of these that I had brought back just two weeks before:

All ready!

Since I knew I had to get up REALLY early, I took a shower and tried to fall asleep at a decent time. I ended up falling asleep at around 12:30 with an alarm set for not far after that!

"In the South Land there's a city
Way down on the river
Where the women are very pretty
And all the men deliver

They got music
It's always playin'
Start in the day time, go all through the night

When you hear that music playin'
Hear what I'm saying and make it feel alright

Grab somebody, come on down
Bring your paintbrush, we're painting the town
There's some sweetness going around
Dreams do come true in New Orleans!"

That song from The Princess & the Frog woke me up at 3:30 AM!! I was SO excited that I stayed up and surfed the DIS for a little bit! I read one of Joni's updates and she mentioned the Frumps in it! It was great. :-)

I woke up the parents and we all did the Home Alone race around the house getting ready.

Here I am in my customized Mickey shirt!

We loaded up the car and were on the rode before 5 AM!

We were so excited!!

Sarah and I fired up the DVD players! She watched Finding Nemo, but I needed something more subdued, so I popped in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

We stopped in Erie, PA at around 6:30 AM to grab some breakfast at Panera!

YAY! She's excited to get food, obviously.

Unfortunately, although the food was fresh and delicious, the workers were pretty snippy and crabby. I get it, it's early, and they weren't on their way to Disney.

There was a book club meeting going on while we were there, and it was really precious. They were discussing some political book.

While we were there, we picked up some lunch to-go and put it in a cooler in the car. I started to work on my A.P. U.S. History (APUSH) summer work when we got on the road again. There was a TON of it and it was painful. My teacher sort of gets excited when we're stressed out, and his favorite thing is seeing us upset. Which I was. I didn't wanna be doing homework on the way to Disney! I wanted to be watching Tangled with Sarah!

Sarah took some pics of me workin' away:

Embarrassing, but funny.

She also sniped Scott driving:

So focused.

Here's a picture of what I was working on:

The Bay Colony Bible Commonwealth...SO MUCH FUN. (Not really at all.)

We stopped in West Virginia after a while and had a snack.

First deer face of the trip, people!

When we hit the road again, I finished the 7th HP and started to watch the 4th. After two hours of APUSH, I needed a break. :/

Up next: Some really awesome food pictures and we settle in for the night!

First, if it makes you feel better, unless I'm leaving as soon as I get up, I pack in the morning...my husband hates it because it makes him feel like we'll forget something. Granted, I have done that many times, usually my toothbrush, but the front desk has those.

Second, AP US History brings back such bad memories. It was my worst class in HS. The tests were always "which one of these is the MOST correct" and I hated it. Bless you for doing work for that class in the car. I would have thrown it out the window!!

Your Disney nails are too cute!! The day before and travel day is so exciting!! The anticipation is almost as good as being in Disney!!

It makes me sad that your teacher is like that. :( I'm a history teacher and I like to have fun in my classroom and making the learning interesting and as easy as possible to understand. So it hurts my heart when some history teachers make it no fun and boring.

Excited to read more and see your side of this trip!

I love your Disney nails! I am definitely not that talented!!

Yeah, sleep doesn't really happen on the night before Disney! Too many fun things to look forward to!!

Yay an update! I know what you mean about life exploding lately...things have been INSANE. I am so ready for summer vacation, as I'm sure you are!

Um, nine days until Disney? WHAT?! :hyper: I can't believe y'all are so close! I'm so excited to live vicariously through your trip to help me survive until July! Yippeeee!

I always love yours and Jess' Disney nails. I wish I could do that, but I do not have a steady hand. I would make a terrible surgeon.

WOWZA that's early. But totally worth it on D-Day.

I have a lot of family that lives in Eerie PA! They call it "Dreary Eerie, the mistake by the lake." :lmao:

Kudos to you for doing homework on the way to Disney. I'm seriously impressed. I wish my students were that motivated!

I can't wait for more! :thumbsup2

Your Disney nails (and Jess' nails) are always the best. So jealous. I would never have the patience to do that for sure.

Oh many, doing homework in the car on the way down to Disney brings back such memories! I can't tell you how many times that was me almost all the way down. I actually wrote several of my college papers in the car on the way to Disney.

Your nails are super cute! I like your castle light as well:goodvibes

Cant wait for your next update!:cool1:

Yeah another Frump report! I love them.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I quote you a lot around my house. (suck it up buttercup, it builds character and strength) I have 2 teenage boys, so it fits so well sometimes!

Aw, so glad to see your first real update here - we used to always drive to WDW from southern IL and I remember those trips so fondly! Can't believe you have such interesting schoolwork to do. :lmao:

Love your nails - I'm with IHeartDDuck, I could never do that! Love them.

I love the customized park maps! I never order those... I don't know why. They're so cute!

Yay for being on the road! woohoooo! :cool1:

9 FREAKIN' DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Great update Kristen. :thumbsup2 Wow, I can't believe you guys drove...how long did that take?? I'm excited to see your pictures from Coronado, we're staying there in January. -Amanda

Ahhhh omg, I so remember APUSH! It was torture the amount of work assigned! I remember I was going on a cruise during the spring break of the year that I took it, and OMG I had SO much homework to do on the plane. It was awful!!

But YAYYYYY Disney!! I love the day before Disney! It's so much fun, and very stressful getting everything ready! :hyper: I love your nails!! So pretty! I could NEVER do them! Oh and those maps are also soooo cool!!! :thumbsup2

Very cute nails! Love hearing about your half of the trip after already reading Jess's. Ugh, having to do homework on your Disney trip! Nothing like a nice long drive to Disney. We've had many trips where we have driven down too.

I love love love those nails! Too cute! I wish I was that creative :)

Sounds like an exciting start to the trip, minus the APUSH work haha, I'm using that same textbook right now for US honors, and ugh, it makes me cringe!

Can't wait for more!!

So excited to read this! And to hear about your upcoming trip! NINE DAYS! (well that was two days ago so I guess you're down to SEVEN now!!!!!) That's soooo close!!!!!

AHHH!!! APUSH! I'm taking it this year too! Do you take the official AP tests at your school? If you do, is yours next friday too??

HOORAY FIRST UPDATE! And yes, I did somehow miss the fact that you posted it five days ago. Apparently some things go right over MY head as well!

Love the nails! Especially the monorail (duh) and Space Mountain ones. And ANDY'S ROOM!!!

Those personalized maps are so fun. :) Although I think mine are no longer current... but still fun!

OMG how do you do homework in the car? Skills. I can't even read a book or anything because I get car sick so easily. Hooray can't wait for more! :goodvibes

I can only imagine how excited you are to go back! My mom and I just got back yesterday night! It was so fun! You'll have a great time. The storybook land is so cute. :)

I didn't realize you drove! How was it? I haven't driven since 1996! Watching movies would definetely help pass the time.

I know I say it all the time between yours and Jess's reports but I just LOVE your nails! So cute and fun. :)
